    So right away in this you address one of my biggest questions, one of the time on the highway w/ other folks. The 6th gear
    and someone said a 15tooth gear would give you all you need for the roads(70mph). I estimate now that I'll be an 80% - 20%
    rider of the roads, then trails? So the extra weight of the Rally along w/ proper suspension/tires, ect ect is the way to go.
    But you've done a whole grocery list from levels 1-3 >> > It just lets me know what IS possible. "Priceless" Nah, but at
    least I know. I love the linear approach. visualizing it for us ! peace

    Ktm 690 enduro seems like the perfect bike to ride on the road to the trail thats still around the same weight as the 300 with double the power.

    • @ShonkyProductions
      @ShonkyProductions  5 місяців тому +9

      While on paper that appears true... in reality the 690 has a close ratio gearbox that is not as versatile as the CRF gearbox with overdrive 6th gear. The 690 is similar weight, but a lot more top heavy and harder to handle in slow, technical sections. It does have double the power and needs more fuel to cover the same distances. My CRF used 21L of fuel crossing the Simpson Desert. Less fuel needed = less weight.
      How do I know all this? I have friends with 690's and know the lengths they have gone to to make their bikes as versatile as my CRF Rally is. I have ridden 690's in slow, technical off-road sections and I much prefer the CRF Rally.

    Wow! totally different motorcycle eh? And I was thinking that Honda would produce my perfect unicorn bike if it were one with at least a new 400-450cc engine, but from what you have demonstrated here, it appears that it would only need to be a 350cc. Possibly uncorked, remapped and all that business, I’m sure. But in stock form, it seems we’re just slightly short of the perfect bike, in my opinion. I will definitely be considering this build in the future. It’s been so nice watching you do all the testing and fine tuning for us. I believe that I would still be satisfied with the stage 3 to be honest. But this does look tempting. I hope you keep this bike around for a while. My biggest concern is longevity. If this set up last as long as a Honda last in stock form, that will be quite impressive as well.
    Did you ever figure out your top speed?
    Do you have any plans to run the race again that you ran previously with this bike?

    • @ShonkyProductions
      @ShonkyProductions  5 місяців тому

      Yes, totally different and much more versatile bike now. If Honda was to develop a bike in the 350 - 450cc range it would be possible to have the mid-range of the Stage 3 with the top-end of the stage 4.
      I haven't tested the top end yet... maybe this week.

      I have ridden plenty of bikes over the last 35 years and I don't see myself growing out of this power for the type of riding I want to do.
      Stage 4 is: CBR300 airbox mods, 301cc big bore kit, Sports cams and matching (stage 4) ECU.
      I would recommend finding a second hand CRF300 Rally, you may find one with the suspension already fixed. Ride that for a while to get use to it and then modify it to Stage 4 if you want more power. If you are looking for more of a trail bike than an adventure bike, you could get the CRF300L and use the Stage 3 mods. It will give you a stronger mid-range for slower, trail riding.

But if I don't find it lacking anything, I may just leave it stock
      I've looked at them second hand as they're only a grand or 2 cheaper. I've never bought any vehicle new but at least bikes make that possible compared to the cars I'm used to driving, so i might buy new just for the experience and I've had some bad experience with used cars where the old owner has done some dodgy mods that I've had to spend time and money fixing which if I can avoid, I will. I know what you're saying but I'd prefer the peace of mind

      @ShonkyProductions I know where you are, your in that shonky hippie area😁was directed at Josh in case he was over in WA. This was a great video, mate as I progress I will get this done. I've got the airbox done just need the cams a 15t front sprocket,ecu upgrade ( alreasy have the 95tune) and cams and good to goso not a huge expense I just want to see if I can lower the bike a little as pretty tall with the YSS I'm on tiptoes and only learning. Thinking of that Link from bikerbitz. Until I'm a lot better rider anyway.

      Yeah, thanks. I haven't noticed any increase in engine temp or the radiator fan cutting in... It's getting plenty on air flow 🤣

      @ShonkyProductions  5 місяців тому +1

      Yes, I could have. But I have modified a KTM500 for adventure in the past and it wasn't as comfortable or versatile as this bike. Plus you have higher maintenance and lack of security with out an ignition lock.
      I will be riding with a mate on his KTM500 in the coming weeks, so we will see the differences in performance and comfort then.

    Looks epic! Do you still have that modified half turn throttle on?

    • @ShonkyProductions
      @ShonkyProductions  5 місяців тому

      Yes, I always run a quick turn throttle on small capacity bike. It's probably somewhere between 1/4 & 1/6 turn so I can get to full throttle easily.
