Thank you for these priceless videos. Every time I hear that beautiful Guiding Light theme music it takes me back to some of the best years of my life.
Guiding Light had some distinct, golden eras penned by excellent headwriters.... The Dobsons, Douglas Marland, Pam Long, etc. Thanks much for these episodes.
You also had Kevin Bacon as Timothy Warner From Friday the 13 part 1 in 1980 And Amy Steel from Friday the 13 part 2 from 1981 on GL around the same time .
My mom watched this soap at the time. She watched The Guding Light from childhood in 1952 until this beautiful theme song ended in 1981 and didn't watch it for years until we relocated to Deposit, New York by Nov 1987.
Thank you and Happy New Year. So glad to get to see some of this period and the extra details that aren't as easy to find - I had no idea Diane and that sleazy doctor Greg ever hooked up. Diane was such a unique character and never should have been killed off. I also appreciate the horror tinge in the after dark scenes with Roger watching Holly and Christina.
Thanks for the upload !! I swear Rodger Thrope was the man of 1000 faces !! 😂😂 Nice to See Barbara Berjer AKA Barbara Norris Thrope On GL Before she left to play Bridgett OCconnel on Another world in the 80's...!! "Synder" ?? like the Sydner farm on ATWT 's And Lisa Brown was on ATWT's in 1985 .
You may already know this, but Roger would fall off of the cliff to his "death" on April Fool's Day (a couple of weeks after this episode). Obviously just a coincidence at the time, but years later, when Michael Zaslow returned to the show as a very much alive Roger, the April Fools thing took on new significance!
OMG! Roger kidnapped Holly and Blake/Christina episode. I remember watching it so well. And this is great that it's from Channel 10 in Philly because I watched it from that channel.
Also which album did Buck have that he wanted Nola to listen to? Glass Houses by Billy Joel? Still Waiting by Prince? A Roberta Flack album that was a tribute to Donny Hathaway?
I would choose Billy Joel’s “Glass Houses” album for two reasons. One because the album was released one week earlier on March 10th. And two, Nola and Buck (from their appearance and personalities) look like Billy Joel fans to me.
So many ABC affiliates by 1982 had stopped showing Edge in this time slot. They either quit with it altogether or moved it to late mornings. My home affiliate in Jacksonville Florida refused to carry it even from December 1975. I was able to find it again in ‘77 when I went away to college. I couldn’t believe how much it had changed in that time. Not long after Adam Drake had been killed off.
CBS made a long-term deal with Westinghouse - which owned a number of CBS, NBC, and ABC stations - to affiliate all their stations with CBS in 1995. Westinghouse’s KYW in Philadelphia became a CBS station through this agreement, so NBC had to go to WCAU. Same thing happened with longtime NBC affiliate WBZ in Boston; it became a CBS station, so the NBC affiliation went to another station. Less than a year later, Westinghouse actually bought CBS.
It's too bad that they killed off Renee. She could have been a very compelling character, and the actress was wonderful! They should have had her move to Springfield, and begin practicing at Cedars. She would have fit.right in. And with Lenore Kasdorf away on maternity leave, Cindy Pickett and Leslie Dalton's upcoming departures from the show, as well as Maureen Garraett's exit toward the end 1980, she could have filled the void left by so many female characters absent from the show
So interesting and amazing to see the marvelous Lisa Brown so early on as Nola Reardon. Haven’t seen these episodes in 40+ years. ❤️❤️😊😊
Nola was quite a character. She fantasized plots from old-school Hollywood movies. I remember she went after Kelly before marrying Quint.
I’m guessing Mark Arnold’s parents must have been taping everything he appeared in back then. Gotta love proud parents!

Thanks much for these episodes.
Nah it was because Marland was gay is why it was honored with awards
@michaelnelson1128 What difference does it make? The man is dead. He's not here to defend himself.
Wow, Guiding Light was one of my Mom's favorite 'soaps' that she watched along with As The World Turns. That theme sent me back over 40 years ago.
love seeing this espisode, especially with my favorite...Amanda !
It’s interesting to see Mark Arnold on The Guilding Light before he went on to The Edge of Night.
Interesting for me too being that him and Rick Hearst(Alan-Michael)look very much alike.

@@rockyracoon3233They do And so does the actor who is talking to Diane Ballard later on in this episode.m
I love the music that plays when Hope is going out the door and Diane is giving her a look as "I won this round" ..😂😂
A great GL flashback from 1980❤

Greg always gave me the creeps. I wonder if Diane was fooling around with him just to annoy the mousy Eve.
Finally! A WCAU 4 O'Clock Show intro! This is fabulous!
Is that what CBS replaced EON when it went to ABC in 1975 ??
@@MrCraigblazewhen Edge left CBS it was for the expansion of As The World Turns for a full hour
Wow I ignored that Mark had a role on GL, thank you so much to him and to you for posting this
The guy in the Secret ad is actor Jack Stauffer. He was the first Chuck Tyler on All My Children.
And that's Lee Bryant in the Hostess ad.
NYC had all the BEST acting talent !!

Still lovin 'the light' in 2024

I'm confused. I visited Philadelphia recently and WCAU is an NBC station.
WCAU Was a CBS affiliate from 1948 to 1995 and then they change their allegiance to NBC
Sorry there were only 3 episodes on the tape I had. And they were all put up already.

Will there be more GL EPISODES? 😍🥳
One more to post only the March 19. 1980. Sorry I don’t have anymore this was only a tape that was part of the Mark Arnold collection
@@Edgeofnight80sIsn't that the actress who played Valerie Bryson in EON in the head and shoulders commercial ??
@@MrCraigblaze Yes you are correct and also Terry Davis was in a commercial in the previous episode I put up
@@Edgeofnight80sYes I saw that. And Terry was on Another world in 82 as well..
Do you know when the GL episode from March 19, 1980 will be uploaded? I'll have to check back here occasionally to look for it. @@Edgeofnight80s
