Me and my wife are from Bury in Manchester and we have lived in Qatar since 2010. Thank you for posting such an honest account of your stay so far. We and all UK ex pats have noticed over the last few weeks the negativity of UK news media and we are sick and tired of it. You and a few other UA-camrs and bloggers are spreading the truth of how it is. If you need to go somewhere good for an evening beer, I suggest the Irish Bar in the Sheraton hotel. You will need to wear jeans as shorts not allowed and need your passport to get in. Also if you want a good mixed grill meal, Turkey Central is a famous fast food eat in restaurant. It’s not the cleanest of places but you must try it. If you need any advise of help, please feel free to ask me. Regards Robert and Jean Cassidy from Manchester, Qatar residents since 2010.

This World Cup is hands down the most sober event that needed to happen. Now people from different countries get to notice one another and appreciate one another presence. 🙌🏼
II always wanted to be present at one but at my old age I declined many offers to go because of safety issues. This was my chance, and could have brought the entire family with me but missed out. I totally regret it now as this WC seems to be a family friendly event.

im from Greece living in Qatar more than 5 years now and what people should understand is that there are many differences among arab countries. Qatar has invested a lot in art, education, culture and they are very decent, educated and respectful people.

This World Cup feels like a football olympics this time around. You can attend 4 games in one day and hang out with all the teams fans. Everyone I know is having a great time.

Thank you for shining the light on Qatar. I'm a Qatar resident and a Muslim, of course we are affected by the negative worldview on us. Anyhow, I don't think anybody will be arrested if anyone show off their knees or shoulders, but we definitely appreciate it if people respect our culture and values. We value modesty, and we value people who don't deliberately doing the opposite at our place.
You're a Muslim and you should stop valuing western opinion about your country. For Muslims our religion comes first, not western values. Not to mention even many western people don't support the alphabet gangs.

Thank you for your honest account of your time at the world cup. I have just return from a 10 day trip to see four games myself. I was blown away by how well organised and jovial it is. The vibes are amazing and not a bar fight in sight! I have officially boycotted the guardian and BBC news after visiting Qatar as it opened my eyes to the power and spin of the media!
Qatar is an amazing country everything is very modern, fun, new stadiums with high architecture and nothing is like the rest of the previously hosting countries. The people are so welcoming, generous, and as a matter of fact Qatar is one of the safest countries in the world.

Thanks mate for writing the facts amongst all these media hullabaloo. I am Indian and travelled/lived abroad many places in Europe and Africa and I like experiencing different country culture, food . Life has chosen Qatar as one of the destination ...as I have been living in Doha for last 4 yrs and amazing people /culture and vibes and enjoying every bits of it. Yeah, dude, I went to Dubai recently and thinking it's an Arab country, I didn't want to get caught somewhere wearing anything that didn't cover my knees. And I saw women there in mini skirts and crop tops and shorts walking around with no issue! Places like Doha and Dubai are very multicultural with plenty of tourists all year round so it's not as conservative as we think. You just have to know where to wear what. Mainstream media really twists reality.
Qatar is more concervatif they didn't sell their religion so the west accepte them , that's why i prefer Qatar .

I myself visited most of Europe and met nice, honest, humble people around Europe , media in most of the world is aiming to attract followers by biased stories. I learnt one thing in my life , never judge before you try yourself, difference and gaps in cultures is normal and people should work always together to find common grounds to exchange thoughts

Taxis in the gulf relative to the UK are cheap, 10-12 min ride usually costs around 10-11 riyals which are around 2.6$ or 2.4 Pounds

Just want to thank you so much for this video as our family miss Qatar a lot. We've been lived there for 13 years. My dad retired right before World Cup but more than that we miss everything about Qatar.

Qatar said that anyone can come to Qatar to watch a football match. The problem is that LGBT groups want to force football players or spectators to support them,, using LGBT symbols. If you want to watch a football match, welcome to Qatar, but respect Qatari law that prohibits lgbt symbols, the problem is that LGBT groups force other people to accept them, and other people also have right or have the freedom to reject LGBT too...

Other people have the the right to accept LGBTQ but not in Qatar. I wish people stop mentioning LGBTQ and alcohol while Qatar World Cup 2022 is going on. We’ve heard enough. The religion of Islam is complete, there is nothing left for you to add in or take out. You can only go there or don’t go there, accept it and enjoy football or keep your mouth shut.
Your points are valid ones. Just a couple of things though, Qatar backtracked on its promises to allow messages of support in the grounds. Also its getting ridiculous as to banning training tops and a coloured t shirts. Problem really is that Qatar has been allowed to host as they don't align with FIFAS core principles so shouldn't have been given the WC in the first place.

Really enjoying these video diaries, especially as someone who worked and lived in Qatar and Dubai in 2006-2009. I went to a club match in Doha in 2008 and never would have imagined they could host the World Cup, but it looks like you're all having a good time there. It's amazing that these myths about these places are still around. Even back in 2006 you could go on a beach and wear shorts and so on. I think the problem would be if you started kissing in public...
