I can see her formal ballet training in her presentation. This is my 3rd favorite dance of all time. Her leg work is a work of art. The lifts were amazing!!!
The whole reason fans voted for Melissa to come back because she was the ONE partner Tony ever had who actually WANTED to be there and who was WILLING to do all the hard work. Len told Tony that this was his best season choreographically he had ever had, and it totally was. But again, that's because he had a partner willing to do the work and physically capable of it.
While I agree, I do think Tony should have also won with Stacy K.

That's because she paid her dues being a Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader. That is a tough regiment.
Which is why Giovanni Pernice and Rose Ayling-Ellis won Strictly Come Dancing in 2021. The former partners complaining about him weren’t really interested in winning.
Magnificent! No wonder she was crying at the end- one of THE best DWTS dances ever.

i watch all 20 seasons this is one of the best dances i saw in dwts. Those lifts are genious! And incredebly suited with MJ's "Dirty Diana".
This dance showed exactly why they deserved to win. 💕
Footwork could have been a little cleaner but those are the most intricate lifts I've seen performed on this show. Great job, Melissa!

Cherokee823 well you obviously didn't watch Shawn and Derek...they kept me mesmerized every single dance they were truly amazing...I know artistry as a former dancer and gymnast myself

I could never fully understand the comments about her being too soft in this dance. Listen to the music. I don't pretend to be an expert but i think they way it was performed worked well w/ the music. The music isn't sharp, maybe their moves aren't supposed to be. Besides wouldn't the judges have said something? And Tony's a retired 2 time undefeated latin ballroom champ, he knows what he's doing.
Nobody did lifts like Tony. I miss him.

Argentine tango is more a demonstration dance than a ballroom dance than regular tango. Lifts are a big part of it.
I find Melissa's dancing a bit stiff but she's beautiful nevertheless.

Well, it IS an argentine tango, you can't be "soft". Maybe the song isn't really sharp but the movements are clearly meant to be so.

She's knows how to do all the moves but I feel like it needs to be more power in her dancing.
I've watched this several times now and while I love the dance something just kept pulling my focus with Melissa's dancing. Had to watch it like 5 times to figure out what it was and I think she looks off balance.

What bothers me about this dance, watching it months later is how little actual dance is in this. It's all lifts, and about two seconds of actual dance movement.
there is plenty of stalking, plenty of gauchos, standing kicks and stretches- still dance and very much a part of the AT story.
Disappointed, her AT in season 8 was so much better. This dance seems very impressive in the first glance but when I watch it again not only her balance is sloppy but this dance covers the complete and utter lack of AT content in itself with all the cool tricks and flicks. I appreciate that it must be very hard to dance this, but an AT should've been an AT with content, not dance that is filled tricks every two seconds, without the dancers finishing the contents first. The S8 AT was way better.
she had the mood, the lifts, the searing gauchos, the excellent toppling, her footwork was reactionary to his advances- completely the storyline of an Argentine. Get over yourself. AMAZING and one of the best dances ever
I agree too. At first, i was blown away but after watching so many argentine tango throughout the whole DWTS history, i felt like there were too many focuses on lifts and it seems like too many lifts can make you bored. I also think that because there so many lifts her legwork was sloppy and it seemed like she needed to adjust grounding herself again through all those lifts.
But it was still a great dance.
That's my problem with this dance too! She doesn't actually do much dancing here. There are lifts every few seconds, and some of the lifts look sloppy. Her AT from season 8 is better.
Shawn & Derek got ripped. Look at the awkard way he came down the stairs. The lifts weren't that great the connection wasn't even that good. I didn't get the feeling that she was a seductress. It (the powerful, intimate connection) wasn't there at all.
hahahaha it was not awkward in the slightest, the lifts were outstanding, their connection exemplary and she was as seductive as anyone ever on the show. Maybe the problem, and the cold crotch is just your problem
That's bullshit, they already won a season. It was Tony's turn to win instead of Derek getting shoved down our throats again.

Taylor Derek and Shawn certainly deserved the All-Star win though! Just because they’ve won, doesn’t mean they should just give away trophies to others out of pity... It’s a contest after all!
This was quite painful to watch to say the least!😓 Her footwork and stiffness is horrendous... I can’t believe they won over Shawn Johnson and Derek Hough!

They did a great job but that season should have absolutely gone to Shawn and Derek. Shawn could make any dance amazing. She is the one I remember from this season not Melissa.

I have gone over this before!---on the night of the final vote the phone line to vote for Shawn and Derek mysteriously did not work!(at least on the East Coast!)---I checked the other lines for the other contestants and all the other lines worked!---you could say it was a coincidence but many people feel there is no such thing as a coincidence!!---so to my mind it was a fix job so Melissa and Tony could win!!---at the time Melissa was working on other ABC shows and Melissas agent was a producer on DWTS and neither Melissa and Tony had never won!!--so, again, to my mind it was a fix job or rigged for Melissa and Tony!!

Rosa de Plata Shawn won her season and Derek won like 3 times before season 15. It was time for Tony or someone else to win
+Nella J Yeah plus Derek won an Emmy for his choreography with Shawn so everybody won in some way; Tony got his first Mirrorball and Derek got his first Emmy :) Honestly, I was torn between Melissa and Shawn but after seeing Shawn & Derek do TWO freestyles in the finale after breaking the rules so many times before, and seeing Melissa & Tony do a fun traditional samba and a lovely stripped-down freestyle, I voted for M&T to win.
Amanda Seymour :) exactly. I was torn too. When Sabrina then Apolo got ripped off, I remember being upset and I wasn't going to vote for the finale but I changed my mind and decided to root for Melissa and Tony. I like Tony and I still feel bad for him because he seems to get older partners and non dancers more often than the other pros. I've been missing him from this season and last season.
Shawn and Derek definitely were better so glad Derek won an Emmy for this season, way better than the mirrorball anyway
