The biggest problem with this style of game mode with “power creep” with seasons being included is that you spend the wholeeeeee season grinding for the 99 endgame cards and then by that time the next season is right around the corner and you had barely anytime to use those cards you spent the whole season grinding. It just cannot work this way. If there is please someone explain.

I truly admire the positive mindset you bring and want to maintain. However, it’s June, and fill time content creators are playing anything BUT 24. I’d say this ship has sunk. Personally my tipping point was the start of season 2, I was already getting frustrated with the game in general, then the reset hit, I just uninstalled the game. Greatly enjoy your content though even if I’m not playing the game. 🤟🏼
IMHO -- Every problem with the show begins at - 1. A lack of leadership on the dev team. People who have enough experience with "The Show" to understand whats worked & failed in the past, and how to determine whats working or failing now. The whole studio seems obliviously run by casual players & apathetic clock punchers. 2. The dev team just accepting failure. Then they send out kids to make announcements in Twitch videos -- theyre forced to put on a smile and watch the community be disappointed over and over. Maybe the dev team doesnt care...which would be another big problem...but the only alternative is - SDS doesnt understand that tiny programs, and laughably small pieces of content are not how "The Show" built its fan base. We got exponentially more content ON LAUNCH, in the past -- Than we got in all of season 1. There used to be a long list of programs and challenges and missions to start the year. Thats devolved down to a pathetic single "starter program". 3. SDS not having anyone with the gravitas or credibility to stand up for their players with Sony. If Sony wants to sell more packs - Destroying the game aint the way to do it. A team that was passionate about the game & the players, would at least attempt to do right by the players while keeping the executives content. All i see is the laziest, pay to win mechanics. The best cards must be bought....with stubs....that you cannot earn. Turning regular packs into dumpster dreck filled with "free agent" trash - just makes it all sting even more. 4. No long term thinking. (maybe that connects back to #1) - Did no one at SDS consider the College Football game coming out this summer? They should have made this years "The Show" into a grand effort to lure in new players, excite veterans, and retain them all summer. They should have themed this years game around it. Instead they completely BLEW the cover star. That kind of unexplainable self own tells me issue #1 is a serious problem. They shart out last years failed content model....but even worse....with no flare....no creativity. Even the FONT in this years game seems chosen by throwing darts at a board full of terrible ideas. Did anyone consider what it would be like, looking at VIOLENT NUCLEAR PINK, everyday? Did someones 9 year old daughter chose it? Wheres the foresight? 5. Complete lack of priorities. Willie Mays --- a top 5 greatest player of all time -- dies -- and we get nothing. His "storyline" was ok....but wholly underwhelming considering his death. It should have been held back and redone. Meanwhile, we should have gotten a program honoring his career -- SDS used to be capable of those types of things. Current SDS dribbles out some canned crumbs... but nothing special for WILLIE MAYS?!? I just dont think you can be a baseball fan and think The Show handled the death of one of the greatest of all time...acceptably. 6. Sony is a big part of the problem. They are a mess. It leaves studios like SDS with no self respect, no motivation & no accountability. I dont even know if there is anything we can do. Playstation seems to not care what its customers think...but thats why they are failing. Thanks for what you do. Cheers.
Agree with your takes, I like the idea of sds releasing a 95 core willie mays to be relevant and usuable all year or just keep the 85 supercharged all year in honor of the greatest player to this date.
Let’s keep in mind they came out 3 WEEKS after the packs came out making the cards in them completely useless anyways since they are so much lower overall

My top 3 gripes in no particular order: 1) Programs. There are seemingly so few now, and it feels like a majority of them can be knocked out in a matter of hours, leaving you again with nothing to grind. Then the rewards are almost never a card I'm going to actually use. 2) Season Awards/Topps Now Structure. You said it all, I don't need to elaborate. 3) Collections. I used to love that virtually everything you could earn was collectable and collections came with rewards you actually wanted. Now it feels like I get a lot of items that do nothing for me because there is no collection to slot them into. The "special" Vlad collection I have basically no reason to try and complete because the Vlad card is not good and there aren't really opportunities to get any of the cards without spending stubs, which are harder to come by now. I mostly play offline and have little reason to play unless they drop a content dump all at once. Not enough to do and grind. The only positive is that I completed the live series collection early but have no reason to spend my stubs.
Same here. I actually liked ‘21 when it took until mid-July to finish Live series. I finished it already this year and have almost 600k stubs and don’t want to waste them to collect guys we can’t use after an arbitrary date. SDS really swung and missed on ‘24.
They made this change because people were complaining in the past not enough time to do everything, so they toned down the amount of stuff to do. I agree there isn’t much to do. Now people complain it’s too much grinding and not enough to do. Where does one draw the line?
I love how they got rid of CAPs because they want RTTS to be its own mode But then in the same breath make storylines effectively useless since they tried to make it tie to DD
It’s like last year where they released a TA card Ana a captain of the same player, so you couldn’t use the captain card that was generally worse than the TA. Idiots are running the shops.
I have more stubs than I've ever had in MLB the Show. However, I d9nt feel like using them to buy cards that I can only use for a few days before they are behind the power creep
I agree. I have a bunch of stubs and nobody to spend them on. I did buy Mariano for 25k but he's the only player I have bought. They dont release enough content. Only 2 Braves players in the S2 marketplace so far for S2 and its been like 3 or 4 weeks. I'm surprised at the lack of content for all teams.
The game has regressed enough that I actually have set it down for like 6 weeks or so. Besides my love of baseball the other reason I got into the game was the fact you could achieve any team you wanted if you were willing to put in the time. I started playing MLB 17 and haven’t missed a year since until now. I’m not necessarily for the Rts caps. But I don’t even have that anymore to grind catcher or shortstop.. I regret to say, I believe that this game is in a downward spiral for people like me.
They drop these season awards tasks and they season 2 eligible which apparently doesn't recognize a wild card from season 1, so how the hell do you do them without having any?

I love baseball and I love baseball games so I'll never put the show down completely. The content structure is disappointing for sure. The lack of good cards in free programs is disheartening. I haven't had any reason to differ from my yankees theme team in the almost 3 weeks of season 2 so far.
Frustrated, no people are pissed. I’ve never quit playing this series, I will not even finish TA1 season 2. I’m playing eldin ring and in 3 1/2 weeks I’ll be playing college football.

Problem with the game is there is no content in this game. Compare it to madden there is a program every couple of weeks that you don’t need to come online to play and at the end of that program you get a promo card. It might not be the one you want and probably isn’t but at least you get a promo card. Compare it to mlb there are hardly any programs except for the monthly award which consists of four or five moments.
Sets and seasons is a content model that only works if the game is free to play. Charging $80 for this game is just a waste of money for people with no actual rewards for playing the game.
Did the game play change after the 2way glitch patch? I remember the first couple of weeks fun exit velo’s felt great in all stadiums. After patch foul balls a flukes went to a all time, now I feel I get and recieve more fluke hits then good or perfect input hits
DD is pretty good but it could be great. I know I may refer to Maddens MUT alot but I really feel like SDS should do alot of things like EA does in MUT. #1 they need to revamp theme teams and do them just like MUT #2 Make more sets. For example if they revamped theme teams then they could have those 87ovr captains be set rewards and make them ×2 or ×3 to their theme teams and also make it to where we can pick any former team a player has ever played for to add to a theme team. #3 More content. I made a Braves theme team and realized they have had only 2 players released into the S2 marketplace. I have 1.5m stubs and nobody to buy I feel. Content is like a few players each week and it gets boring. #4 Revamp Ranked. I would like to see a 10 game season for each level of ranked or however many games and if you win lets say 6 or 7 games then you go to the playoffs where you would have to win two four game series or something like that. I do like how ranked starts over at certain times but it just feels empty. In MUT you play a regular season and can win a Superbowl and it's much more satisfying. I would actually keep the resetting of the ranked seasons every so often cause as a low level player I much prefer that method. #5 Revamp packs. I'm so tired of live series players. Maybe they should just do away with them but I think players would riot😂 but packs aren't fun to open and are rarely worth buying at 30 and 40k each. Its either diamond or bust and most diamonds like 85-89 aren't worth much. No cards to pull that you can put into collections and stuff like that. They also need to make the uniform sets repeatable cause I did enjoy doing the MILB one. I have pulled 35-38 diamonds out of hundreds of free Show packs. Most have been 85-86ovr that are worth like 3500 stubs and I'm fine with that but I'm not really that excited when I pull a diamond anymore. #6 Revamp Battle Royal and maybe add in another mode. It would be cool to have a 28 game mini seasons that is online and have a playoffs. They could be creative and think of another fun mode to add. Battle Royal isnt bad but I would like to see them add in another 3-5 good solid player pools to build a team from. Its just not as fun with a bunch of 70-77ovr players and one 99ovr. I just think they should add in a few more good solid players to Battle Royal. Final note I like DD alot and started playing with 59 days left in S1. Its the first Show game and first baseball game for me since MVP 2005. I downloaded the Show 24 on gamepass to play franchise mode but DD had me hooked especially playing mini seasons and TA and flipping unlockables. I think that SDS has made DD so nms friendly that they don't have to care or put as much effort into it as they could. Just like EA they are lazy and lack creativity and are seemingly content. I do think Maddens MUT is a better and more fun mode but DD could easily take that spot if they actually tried.

I’m having fun using the Negro Leagues storylines cards with the Rube Foster boost during this current Event. I’m a big Negro Leagues nerd so it’s cool to play with these legends.
Now that Storylines are Officially Finished, what is your Review/Final Opinion? Was it better or worse than 23? Are the Negro League Legends exciting enough to use and are you still excited to see who is next? What other Legends do you think could we see in the "Jeter Storyline" mode, or does that version fall off completely?
The seasonal reset sucks. Probably not gonna keep playing this year. I’m definitely never spending another dime on the game. I wish I hadn’t early on. I completed the live series early. Big mistake.
I’ve slowly been working towards Ruth. I just need Ohtani. I had him earlier in S1 but sold him to get like four other high diamonds. Pulled Tout and Mookie and I’m saving up for Ohtani to finish. All is good but I still hate this years game.
I feel like the negatives we see wouldn't be so bad if there were as many programs (variety) that MLB the show 21 had. If we had more of those F2P programs. Even if the cards weren't the best it was still SOMETHING to work for that wasn't just so tedious and a waste of time. Those cards at least gave progress to the XP path. We literally have nothing to work for aside from WILD CARD SLOTS and XP BOSSES YEEEEEE. I think I'm as exhausted talking about the negatives about this years game as I am playing it.
I suspect a sharp change in how sds is approaching this year's game in approximately 3 weeks. I'm done with EA, and will be playing dd. Most I know are going straight to ncaa
The worst thing they ever did was making last years grindable Monthly Awards cards sellable to leapfrog the grind - they got the data and saw enough people grinded to sell and enough people paid to skip grinding that they could cut out the middle man and make money in the process
The only thing I'm not buying is stubs are unattainable. I've been maxed out at 5 million since midway through season one and have to put in bid orders to keep my account low. Flipping still works. Its a tedious grind but it works. Everything else about the game blows
The season/sets idea just doesn't work for an UT sports mode. Nobody wants their progress halted and their cards taken away for an annual sports game that resets every year anyways. More player choice and agency is always better. Less is always worse. The solution? Make the game a slow power creep throughout the year like before but make it so it's fun to use some of the lower rated guys. Make fun cards. SDS proved they can do these. TA1CH1 was great. Then CH2 came with all pipeline cards and its now boring. Then it got worse and worse to where we are today with absolutely horrific 40K packs, the same cards over and over for the same players, no exciting legends, S2 TA so far has about 1 and a 1/2 useful card among the 30, lack of exciting programs/content, the game just sucks.

Sets and seasons are not the reason the game is dead by a long shot, that idea can work if done right. Problem is there is no gameplay. Back before mlb 21 we had daily missions programs, which after completing every mission for the month or so you would get a great card for it. Or like you said, when content a packs would drop, there would be a conquest and program for said content. Which would reward you with a card and pack at a chance of pulling whatever top card they dropped was. Problem is purely gameplay an content wise, I open the game up an have nothing to do literally. Already hit 900 rating, Br is complete an went flawless. An the event is done, nothing to do now

I know I am in the minority but: Seasons is great . The power creep is great and makes games competitive. The wild card idea I like because I makes you really have to manage your team. Nothing fun about all 99 teams in may lol usually folks complaining are just looking to sit on a 99 overall teams . There’s a legit skill gap now
we just got a 99 mays as the season 1 collection. i get that he died and he's arguably the greatest player ever but i feel them doing literally anything was a nice gesture. Every year, and i've been playing DD for 5 or 6 years now, people complain that there's too many 99s and that eventually everyone has the same teams and that all these lower teir diamonds are basically useless, etc etc. so now they've made a way to make those lower cards relevant for longer. Some people will never be satisfied. If the power creep so too slow, it's that slow for everyone. so it's moot. the game is fun, it's a fun way to pass time.
Everyone will always have the same teams. People will always use the best cards, it’s not rocket science. ‘20 and ‘21 had the best content structures ever and they’re ruined it all from ‘22-‘24.
Devils advocate: Using live series cards is my favorite part of the game, so them being meta at the start of every season is actually very enjoyable for me.
Gameplay is what makes this game bad. The equalizer is so apparent its laughable. It used to happen every once in a while, but now its game after game. Had 7 perfect swings to my opponents 1. I got out 4/7 times and had 0 home runs on perfect swings. Lost the game 2-6. SDS gotta stop letting bad players stay in close games
The problem I have with the slow power creep is that you only get a few weeks to use the 99's you've been looking forward to.

I am in the exact same boat! Every week we wait for the weekly drop on Friday. We take our time completing it, and we are out of content by Monday.

SETS was done for ONE purpose to force COLLECTIONS via packs and to spend STUBS.! Not once, but twice, but three, plus four times....
Over and over and over and over again until ‘25 drops and the cycle will repeat.

Did the game play change after the 2way glitch patch? I remember the first couple of weeks fun exit velo’s felt great in all stadiums. After patch foul balls a flukes went to a all time, now I feel I get and recieve more fluke hits then good or perfect input hits
Of course. They change and nerf everything without saying anything but all the while state there are no changes. Utter garbage of a company.
DD is pretty good but it could be great. I know I may refer to Maddens MUT alot but I really feel like SDS should do alot of things like EA does in MUT.
#1 they need to revamp theme teams and do them just like MUT
#2 Make more sets. For example if they revamped theme teams then they could have those 87ovr captains be set rewards and make them ×2 or ×3 to their theme teams and also make it to where we can pick any former team a player has ever played for to add to a theme team.
#3 More content. I made a Braves theme team and realized they have had only 2 players released into the S2 marketplace. I have 1.5m stubs and nobody to buy I feel. Content is like a few players each week and it gets boring.
#4 Revamp Ranked. I would like to see a 10 game season for each level of ranked or however many games and if you win lets say 6 or 7 games then you go to the playoffs where you would have to win two four game series or something like that. I do like how ranked starts over at certain times but it just feels empty. In MUT you play a regular season and can win a Superbowl and it's much more satisfying. I would actually keep the resetting of the ranked seasons every so often cause as a low level player I much prefer that method.
#5 Revamp packs. I'm so tired of live series players. Maybe they should just do away with them but I think players would riot😂 but packs aren't fun to open and are rarely worth buying at 30 and 40k each. Its either diamond or bust and most diamonds like 85-89 aren't worth much. No cards to pull that you can put into collections and stuff like that. They also need to make the uniform sets repeatable cause I did enjoy doing the MILB one. I have pulled 35-38 diamonds out of hundreds of free Show packs. Most have been 85-86ovr that are worth like 3500 stubs and I'm fine with that but I'm not really that excited when I pull a diamond anymore.
#6 Revamp Battle Royal and maybe add in another mode. It would be cool to have a 28 game mini seasons that is online and have a playoffs. They could be creative and think of another fun mode to add. Battle Royal isnt bad but I would like to see them add in another 3-5 good solid player pools to build a team from. Its just not as fun with a bunch of 70-77ovr players and one 99ovr. I just think they should add in a few more good solid players to Battle Royal.
Final note I like DD alot and started playing with 59 days left in S1. Its the first Show game and first baseball game for me since MVP 2005. I downloaded the Show 24 on gamepass to play franchise mode but DD had me hooked especially playing mini seasons and TA and flipping unlockables. I think that SDS has made DD so nms friendly that they don't have to care or put as much effort into it as they could. Just like EA they are lazy and lack creativity and are seemingly content. I do think Maddens MUT is a better and more fun mode but DD could easily take that spot if they actually tried.
Quit taking up for the development teams. This is how we got here. They are out of touch and gear the game towards their favorite streamers opinions. Now they’re not happy either. They should have just left the game alone because they certainly don’t put effort into it. It’s absolutely ridiculous that they don’t leave last gen considering sony makes the game. They need competition. College football is about to kill the game completely and they don’t seem to care.

because they were wrong and they can’t be pleased. All I heard from then was “it’s so much fun when the game first comes out. We should do that over and over.” Terrible idea. They like that time because they spend money and have better teams than everyone which makes them look good to their audience. The best time in the game is when everyone has the players they want and have worked for. Real people can’t afford to grind this game 24/7. SDS is the laziest developers ever. This has literally been the same game since it started inception. They won’t add content because they would have to change something and it might break what they have had for over 25 years. That is a fact. Look at how terrible Rickwood looks. Look at the content. It’s just moments over and over and over. Everything they do is recycled from something already there. I’ve played this game since Vlad Sr was on the cover. It’s the same. The gameplay is the same. It’s boring and old and so ps3 era.
I’m having fun using the Negro Leagues storylines cards with the Rube Foster boost during this current Event. I’m a big Negro Leagues nerd so it’s cool to play with these legends.
I don’t get why we cannot get a full Negro League franchise roster. It’s ridiculous!!!

The seasonal reset sucks. Probably not gonna keep playing this year. I’m definitely never spending another dime on the game. I wish I hadn’t early on. I completed the live series early. Big mistake.
I’ve slowly been working towards Ruth. I just need Ohtani. I had him earlier in S1 but sold him to get like four other high diamonds. Pulled Tout and Mookie and I’m saving up for Ohtani to finish. All is good but I still hate this years game.

I have 750k stubs and collection complete. I’m not spending shit to get 89-93 overall cards.
I feel like the negatives we see wouldn't be so bad if there were as many programs (variety) that MLB the show 21 had. If we had more of those F2P programs. Even if the cards weren't the best it was still SOMETHING to work for that wasn't just so tedious and a waste of time. Those cards at least gave progress to the XP path. We literally have nothing to work for aside from WILD CARD SLOTS and XP BOSSES YEEEEEE. I think I'm as exhausted talking about the negatives about this years game as I am playing it.
I suspect a sharp change in how sds is approaching this year's game in approximately 3 weeks. I'm done with EA, and will be playing dd. Most I know are going straight to ncaa
The worst thing they ever did was making last years grindable Monthly Awards cards sellable to leapfrog the grind - they got the data and saw enough people grinded to sell and enough people paid to skip grinding that they could cut out the middle man and make money in the process
The only thing I'm not buying is stubs are unattainable. I've been maxed out at 5 million since midway through season one and have to put in bid orders to keep my account low. Flipping still works. Its a tedious grind but it works.

The season/sets idea just doesn't work for an UT sports mode. Nobody wants their progress halted and their cards taken away for an annual sports game that resets every year anyways. More player choice and agency is always better. Less is always worse. The solution? Make the game a slow power creep throughout the year like before but make it so it's fun to use some of the lower rated guys. Make fun cards. SDS proved they can do these. TA1CH1 was great. Then CH2 came with all pipeline cards and its now boring. Then it got worse and worse to where we are today with absolutely horrific 40K packs, the same cards over and over for the same players, no exciting legends, S2 TA so far has about 1 and a 1/2 useful card among the 30, lack of exciting programs/content, the game just sucks.
My season 2 collections is glitched. I'm stuck at 32 cards.
They added pages to the collection, so you have to collect each page individually

I don’t mind grinding out some programs however, if they aren’t fun to grind I lose interest.
im actually like the game....thay should get rid of sets and seaons for season 3 probably wont happen would be nice tho.sets and seasons have to be gone next season.900 k xp is still alot for chipper and griffey currently at 535 k gona be a good month before i get first pack.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Lost interest when everything I grinded for / collected became useless. Not doing that again.
Sets and seasons are not the reason the game is dead by a long shot, that idea can work if done right. Problem is there is no gameplay. Back before mlb 21 we had daily missions programs, which after completing every mission for the month or so you would get a great card for it.
Or like you said, when content a packs would drop, there would be a conquest and program for said content. Which would reward you with a card and pack at a chance of pulling whatever top card they dropped was.
Problem is purely gameplay an content wise, I open the game up an have nothing to do literally. Already hit 900 rating, Br is complete an went flawless. An the event is done, nothing to do now

Seasons is great . The power creep is great and makes games competitive. The wild card idea I like because I makes you really have to manage your team.
Nothing fun about all 99 teams in may lol usually folks complaining are just looking to sit on a 99 overall teams .
There’s a legit skill gap now
we just got a 99 mays as the season 1 collection. i get that he died and he's arguably the greatest player ever but i feel them doing literally anything was a nice gesture. Every year, and i've been playing DD for 5 or 6 years now, people complain that there's too many 99s and that eventually everyone has the same teams and that all these lower teir diamonds are basically useless, etc etc. so now they've made a way to make those lower cards relevant for longer. Some people will never be satisfied. If the power creep so too slow, it's that slow for everyone. so it's moot. the game is fun, it's a fun way to pass time.
Everyone will always have the same teams. People will always use the best cards, it’s not rocket science. ‘20 and ‘21 had the best content structures ever and they’re ruined it all from ‘22-‘24.
Devils advocate: Using live series cards is my favorite part of the game, so them being meta at the start of every season is actually very enjoyable for me.
I see most of you all bashing the show24. I love it and yes I do plan to play ncaafootball soon . Still mostly gonna play the show.

Gameplay is what makes this game bad. The equalizer is so apparent its laughable. It used to happen every once in a while, but now its game after game. Had 7 perfect swings to my opponents 1. I got out 4/7 times and had 0 home runs on perfect swings. Lost the game 2-6. SDS gotta stop letting bad players stay in close games
It's 2024 and they have to make revenue . If you love this game your goin have to pay to play, just like every other video game out there.
