It's like you're reading my mind! I was watching Kevin Talbot and Raz Shifrin do some insane speed runs (175mph +!) and thinking to myself - "wow, that looks like a ton of fun...but it's also a lot of money flying by. I wonder if there is a more "entry level" option to do some speed runs"...and BAM! Here it is! Thanks a bunch Fran, I may have to pick one of these up. I'll be sure to use any affiliate links etc you post if I do. Have a great night and if you are Christian "Happy Easter"!
Great tutorial on the AK 917, I just bought the Carbon Fiber Brushless version. I was wondering how this car could take 3S and 4S lipo batteries, and I think you answered my question. I think you said the Speed Controllers were designed to take the 3S and 4S, and the motors will take any voltage with regards to heat. So I can run batteries I use for my Drone 5200mAh 11.1V 3S 50C just fine, correct ?
Good stuff right there! Definitely can tell y'all had a blast even that little jog across the highway you could tell you were having fun! The car definitely looks like a ripper
Was looking at Rlaarlo site a few months ago, but didn't know much about them, cars were cheap and looked well made....now I am seeing them everywhere! I might need to invest in one!
Pare Francis, looks like you were getting front end lift at speed. Happens on the big cars as well. Some time in the future it would be good to see if adding front end vents and or a front wing would allow more stability and allow you to hold throttle longer. Once you get front end lift have no traction or steering. Great video.
Thanks for sharing the video. It seems to get up to some high speeds in a short distance and because i have bad eyesight that is what i need. I am very impressed but I will have to see how much they sell for in Australia.
Hey there just got mine, registered for the speed challenge today, and I'm going for it! But I'm wondering if the only way to stop the tail wagging from the radiolink gyro at high speed is to put a fast servo in? And how fast are we talking, like a .10s or faster spec servo?
I live in Santa Clara , where did you go for your speed run? I would like to try the speed run when my rc comes in. Which radio link are you using? Thank you and have a great day.

Motors are not just limited to heat. They have a maximum RPM limit before the magnets (for an inrunner) explode due to centrifugal force, somewhere between 50,000 and 100,000 RPM is the max. If you want to go faster, you have to use a motor that can handle more torque and thus gear up.
Did you forget to turn on the dual mode ESC violent linear acceleration mode TURBO function designed by RLAARLO? Just one click to open the 3rd channel button!
Good review, but there are few things that are confusing on what’s being stated; as well as the company info, on their main website (misleading,) in regards to the motor’s. “All their spurs are, plastic, but the one that’s included is metal.” Not true (but I’m sure that’s not what he meant when he said that. Even though it can be very confusing, especially for those that are new to this.) The included metal one that he’s referring to is part of a gift that was “included.” Which actually is described as “necklace” (according to their site 🤷🏻♂️) - “and a necklace of a gold-plated 52T spur gear for the 201st to 500th buyers. Only first few hundred people will get that (200-500.) Not to mention, you can’t even purchase a 52T (metal) spur right now, as it’s already SOLD OUT; before the cars are even shipped out to average customers, smh. Good job Rlaarlo, way to go 🤦🏻♂️ Considering there’s an upcoming challenge. EVERYTHING should be available to all the customers. They do have metal spurs that you can purchase separately on their website. As well as different size pinions. All the spur gears that are ‘included’ are nylon (plastic.) Considering you’re not the 201st-500th buyer, NOT metal (according to their specs, on the main website; for the $299 version.) The included 40T pinion, is steel “metal,” but the spur gears that they include in the box are nylon. Which are 52T, 63T, and 78T. Just to clear that up. And if I’m understanding correctly (based on what’s being said here,) the new metal 40T pinion, does not fit the plastic spur gears that are included? 52T being the smallest, in this case. Or is it just the gold plated metal one (52T) that doesn’t fit. Since that’s what he said he tried, not the plastic smallest (52T.) Doesn’t make sense, on the company side. Why would they include optional pinion and spurs for their rc car, and they DON’T fit together to match?! Now, if you go to the company website and look at the $299 CF motor specs, it states and shows (pic) that the 3900KV motor that it comes with, have two different shaft sizes; on the same page 🤦🏻♂️ The pic shows that it’s 5mm, but in the description it states that it’s 3.175mm for shaft diameter. So which one is it?! It actually shows that “misinformation” in two different locations of the motor specs. It does specify that 3900KV is 3S capable. We’ll have to upgrade before using 4S batt in order for it not to fry it 🔥 And speaking of misinformation. The rest of the upgraded motors state that the ESC “is perfectly balanced for use with the Rlaarlo ESC unit.” There’s no way it’ll handle the 1950KV motor, or any other 6S capable, motors that are available for purchase, under which same message is posted; regarding the ESC (that’s 120A, max.) Can’t be universal. I don’t even want to get into the fact that they claim that the car is capable of 125mph (max) or more; “it can bash at an amazing speed of 200km/h over on-road and light off-road surfaces,” while it trips and flips several times in the air on a fairly flat road (which would be considered “on-road” surface) at about 80mph. I can only imagine driving it on “light off road” surfaces 🙈 haha. And bash? … c’mon now. It seems like anything above 75mph, it’ll need to be on a smoothest pavement out there, in order to stay on the ground. I mean, it is fast for what it is, and for the (pre order) price, but all the hype and the way it’s advertised… It seems like it’ll need some serious adjustments, lot’s of mods, AND butter smooth road to travel on, to reach anywhere near those posted speeds (by the manufacturer.)
There's a metal spur gear installed that has 63. In the box are three other spur gears in nylon with 78t, 63t and 52t. Two of us ran it at 4s for many full speed runs on stock motor and esc. Did not experience any problems.
@@Boombastick17 Not entirely true. Motor rpm over 50k mean heat from friction which the motor is not designed to dissipate. Over 50k is not possible without active lube no matter what anyone says. A 4000kv motor on 3s will get you to 100mph easy. You should only increase voltage if you are having heat issues, if not you are leaving power on the table.
I have to say that is a great chassis and it seems that quality is at a good level the only thing is the name to me very difficult to pronounce. Ciao!!
And that's my issue with this I prefer arrma and traxxas personally but this car looks to be on par with a WL toys or a redcat, and that's just my opinion from what I see visually quality and performance wise, and all these youtubers are hyping it up because they got a rc car for free
Yeah, idk what motor and ESC you can get for $60 to reach 100mph on that thing, haha, but it’s $140 for a car, + say $60 for the upgraded motor and ESC. About $100 for a real good POWERFUL batt (that’s going to last, and not catch on fire haha)… you’re already at nearly $300 bucks (after tax.) Then you’re still stuck with the factory controller and receiver, and a car that’s NOT built for such high speeds. As well as limited to higher upgrades, being that model. So, not much of a deal, in comparison to AK 917 model. Considering you can get a brushed version for $170 (pre order price.)
I've been watching videos of a several people review and test them and I don't get the hype, I understand it's a new company but the case and throwing in a lipo are kinda cheesy, the carbon fiber if it's real carbon fiber is a nice touch but the rest gives me red cat vibes, and the issue with the gearing would be a deal breaker for me, most on road cars that are setup like this have limited gear options the larger scale cars have gotten that part right like the felony or xo1
Definitely a lot of marketing going on today with influencers and that can rub people the wrong way. But if you look at the car itself, it's really good at $299. Th.e only one like it is the Arrma Vendetta at $370. But build on this Rlaarlo seems better as the diffs and the suspension and arms are better. And then there's a bunch of bonus parts that add real value: - carbon chassis and upper - metal wheels with discs rotors spinning - comprehensive light kit with backfire - car soft case that looks like a $50 case - included lipo battery - good 4 channel radio - included 3 extra spur gears and pinion, included suspension arm and fins - battery straps and chassis sheet protector - durable as heck - faster than vendetta - many option parts available including 3 very fancy motors Also it's available in 5 configurations with the low one at $130
