Great video, thank you for the coverage. Just some notes on settings as some of them aren't correct: Gran Turismo 5: (19:32) Doesn't require Write Color Buffers and will run faster with it off. Changing Zcull Accuracy won't matter either as you already disabled Zcull occlusion queries on the debug settings. We also recommend not updating the game to 2.00 or later because it makes the game run a bit slower. If you want faster performance you can set the "default resolution" to 1920x1080 and use strict rendering mode. It wont use as much anti-aliasing and will run faster than 1280x720 while looking better. Tales of Xillia: (36:32) The game does actually require a specific setting, it needs the framelimiter set to "PS3 Native", if its not set the game-speed will run incorrectly (fast/slow motion), which can be seen in your footage. LittleBigPlanet Karting: (26:26) We don't recommend using "Force GPU Texture Scaling" (actually shouldn't be used on any game as it doesn't improve performance, and can break graphics in some cases this is why we hid the setting to the debug tab.

As the development progresses and emulator is improved, the options become unnecessary and even harmful. Imagine the effort required to keep compatibility database up-to-date with every single emulator release

Thanks. Is it possible Rog Ally can use the save states feature as I did not connect the keyboard. I try to call out the virtual keyboard and press crtl + s, it will stop the game instead of save the state

i upgraded the ssd to 1 tb and i have not had any issues. I have over 30 games on there and still so much space. I sold my steam deck as i was not playing it as much anymore. The ally is great@@SupremeJarJar

Great video! It's quite depressing that there's still no way to play/own God of War Ascension, Twisted Metal and MGS4 on anything other than original hardware. PS Plus Premium is a ripoff. I just want to buy those games for modern systems.

Double check in command center that you are in game mode, sometimes the Ally might not switch properly. You can also check in RPCS3 under "pads" at the top of the screen and see if it is picking up the built-in controls. I hope this helps! 🙏

nice curation job! i plucked off a handful & really impressed w the ps3 version of Hot Shots! (i so didnt like the psp version) Motorstorm Apocalypse is a nice twist on the genre. I couldn't get Short Peace to boot - it compiles all the PPUs & freezes when it goes black & in the corner in grey when it says its compiling PPUs (i assume shader related ones?) i tried rpcs3 in Batocera Linux and booted into Windows w the latest & greatest build & no dice - they both get stuck in the same spot.
Make sure the Ally is set to gamepad mode. On the RPCS3 screen, click on the icon with the controller at the top. In the handlers drop-down select XInput and then XInput Pad #1. It should automatically map the controls but if not, just go through them one by one and hit save.

Yes, you can definitely get Midnight Club: Dub Edition going on your Ally. It was available on PSP and PS2. I recommend looking into the PCSX2 or PPSSPP emulator for PC. PPSSPP: www.ppsspp.org/ PCSX2: pcsx2.net/

how do you get Heavenly Sword to run without it freezing up randomly? I tried this game on so many different PCs, handhelds, etc. and they all have that problem where the game would just freeze up at the most random scenes.
Everytime I installed the firmware it keeps saying it installed but then it gives me a fatal error afterwards and closes and program down. And it doesn’t show the black screen saying it’s installing all the stuff shown in this video. NEED HELP

Great showcase. I own a physical copy of Gundam ExVs but I would love to play it on a handheld. I was wondering how this runs on the ally cause I've seen videos of it on steam deck and it wasn't running smoothly enough. Good to know that this handles it at 15w. Would you consider doing short showcases of Gundam Unicorn or Gundam Breaker 1 & 2 ? These 3 are all JP exclusives. I'm thinking of taking the plunge and getting an ally to play these gundam games on a handheld.
I downloaded ISO files, unzipped and loaded them in however get an error message when trying to boot any ideas, I read I need to decrypt or something . I do genuinely actually own a large library of PS3 physical games and the thought of having to RIP each disk sounds painful. Help!
Hi Thanks for an amazing video, it got me setup and working, I tried out Wipeout HD, did you notice that the device gets very hot or fans go into overdrive? I am wondering if this kind of emulation has any concerns in the long run on the health of the device. Thanks.
You're very welcome and I'm glad it was helpful! 🙏 What TDP are you using when playing Wipeout HD? Are you plugged in when playing? Turbo mode will get the device hot especially when plugged in since it's drawing a ton of power. I'd recommend to set your custom profiles for power or just use the 15w preset which should be good enough for Wipeout HD and is the one I used in my gameplay footage. It will stutter initially because of shader compilation but that's normal.
@@retrotechdad Thank you! Yeah I was in Turbo mode, I assumed that might make the shader compilation faster. Also today I did some of the optimisation like the windows memory one and the vram allocation, that has seemed to help the device a lot at 15w. I was having a lot of trouble running street fighter 6 even at 720p low but those optimisations for now seemed to have helped. Amazing, thank you so much for your hard work and getting back to me. Even though my games are loading in RPCS3 they aren't booting. An error message is popping up saying, "Booting failed the selected file or folder is invalid or corrupted." Can someone please help?
Yep what he said, I went through this for DAYS before finding what should have been an easily found solution: decrypt the isos. Certain repositories offer the decrypted iso, certain others don't.
Ok trying to use this emulator I have downloaded it and the firmware, I downloaded uncharted 3 but for some reason it doesn’t show up in the emulator don’t know what I’m doingwrong

Most of the games in this video are running at their full speeds of 30 or 60 fps, it just depends on the game. Playing plugged in with the turbo mode will give you the best performance for sure though.

Check that the ZCULL accuracy is set to precise under GPU config. It doesn't need write color buffers turned on.

SD is still an absolute killer of a device, hard to top the value there. The Z1 Extreme does better with PS3 emulation because of the AVX 512 support.

Is there a way to get the built-in gamepad of the Ally to work with the emulator? When it's set to "Gamepad" mode? I can't seem to get it to work? Any help would be appreciated.
On the RPCS3 main screen, click on the icon that looks like a controller. You will need to select the XInput from the handlers drop down.

Gran Turismo 5: (19:32) Doesn't require Write Color Buffers and will run faster with it off. Changing Zcull Accuracy won't matter either as you already disabled Zcull occlusion queries on the debug settings. We also recommend not updating the game to 2.00 or later because it makes the game run a bit slower. If you want faster performance you can set the "default resolution" to 1920x1080 and use strict rendering mode. It wont use as much anti-aliasing and will run faster than 1280x720 while looking better.
Tales of Xillia: (36:32) The game does actually require a specific setting, it needs the framelimiter set to "PS3 Native", if its not set the game-speed will run incorrectly (fast/slow motion), which can be seen in your footage.
LittleBigPlanet Karting: (26:26) We don't recommend using "Force GPU Texture Scaling" (actually shouldn't be used on any game as it doesn't improve performance, and can break graphics in some cases this is why we hid the setting to the debug tab.

how do you get Heavenly Sword to run without it freezing up randomly? I tried this game on so many different PCs, handhelds, etc. and they all have that problem where the game would just freeze up at the most random scenes.
Yea, unfortunately that's just how it is with certain games regardless of the kind of PC you're using. It's a limitation of the emulation with RPCS3.
We are close but not yet there, hope next handhelds gets us the perfect ps3 emu.

It runs pretty good, but I know there are a few settings that I could take it over the top. I have them up on my channel. Maybe we can collab one day in the future. Best of luck bruh!!!

How did you solve it with games that need sixaxis?
How are you able to use the controls? For example, I can’t use the ROG Ally pad on red dead redemption one.
Did you check to see if you have gamepad mode enabled in the command center? Sometimes auto mode will not work properly in certain apps.

Great showcase. I own a physical copy of Gundam ExVs but I would love to play it on a handheld. I was wondering how this runs on the ally cause I've seen videos of it on steam deck and it wasn't running smoothly enough. Good to know that this handles it at 15w. Would you consider doing short showcases of Gundam Unicorn or Gundam Breaker 1 & 2 ? These 3 are all JP exclusives. I'm thinking of taking the plunge and getting an ally to play these gundam games on a handheld.

I downloaded ISO files, unzipped and loaded them in however get an error message when trying to boot any ideas, I read I need to decrypt or something . I do genuinely actually own a large library of PS3 physical games and the thought of having to RIP each disk sounds painful. Help!

Hi Thanks for an amazing video, it got me setup and working, I tried out Wipeout HD, did you notice that the device gets very hot or fans go into overdrive? I am wondering if this kind of emulation has any concerns in the long run on the health of the device. Thanks.

What TDP are you using when playing Wipeout HD? Are you plugged in when playing? Turbo mode will get the device hot especially when plugged in since it's drawing a ton of power.
I'd recommend to set your custom profiles for power or just use the 15w preset which should be good enough for Wipeout HD and is the one I used in my gameplay footage. It will stutter initially because of shader compilation but that's normal.
@@retrotechdad Thank you! Yeah I was in Turbo mode, I assumed that might make the shader compilation faster. Also today I did some of the optimisation like the windows memory one and the vram allocation, that has seemed to help the device a lot at 15w. I was having a lot of trouble running street fighter 6 even at 720p low but those optimisations for now seemed to have helped. Amazing, thank you so much for your hard work and getting back to me. Even though my games are loading in RPCS3 they aren't booting. An error message is popping up saying, "Booting failed the selected file or folder is invalid or corrupted." Can someone please help?

Yep what he said, I went through this for DAYS before finding what should have been an easily found solution: decrypt the isos.
Certain repositories offer the decrypted iso, certain others don't.

Most of the games in this video are running at their full speeds of 30 or 60 fps, it just depends on the game. Playing plugged in with the turbo mode will give you the best performance for sure though.
