We did spend 2 days in a scorching hot attic with a fan and a constantly draped cold wet t-shirt, around head and neck to keep us cool and gallons of lemonade - only way, If you work through out the day rather than morning and evenings only. One "work smart, not hard" thing that I did with my installation, in an attic with support trusses, where I hoisted the fan into the attic through the hatch, was to remove the motor, and blades. This made it much easier to angle the fan frame through the trusses, to the point of installation.

I put in one of these (different brand) in my 1904 house built with true 2 inch rough cut joists that were spaced however they felt like it that day, and finished with wood lath and sand plaster. It works great, but installation was night and day from this easy process. I would like to see this crew make a video in an old house like mine!😂

When the two joists r cut, the remaining joist portions can sag down. So, the bridges s/b to close up that joist parallel to them? Not across the two? And for temporary esp., don't use nails but screws. Nails r hard to take out. Only carpenters who never come back r allowed to use nails. Owners use removable screws into pre-drilled holes so the lumber won't crack. I would rather use #10 x 3"L or 3.5"L sheet rock screws than short 2.5"L ones to join 2 x 4, 2 x 6, or 2 x 8 (actual meas. is much less) lumber to ea. other.
How do you get the fan blade off initially to reverse it. My new attic fan does not look like this video. It's a Cool House, but only has one square option to get the fan blade off initially as it was shipped on reverse position. What's the trick to getting the blade itself off? We've tried everything.

If you use the above-joist technique, then the fan can be any convenient size. All that's needed is a short tapered transition from the say 22" x 36" through-hole to the square footprint of the fan housing, and factory sheet metal is cheap. Considering the relatively low cost of furnace blowers, its also interesting that all I see are propeller fans and no rotary blowers.
If you get a 36 x 36 (9 sq Feet) standard 2-speed whole house (WH) fan -- with a split louver so that you do not need to cut the roof truss --I know that this will work. I seriously doubt that a squirrel cage furnace blower would move enough air in comparision. I only use my WH fan in the late evening when the outside air is much cooler--and it only runs 1-2 hours to remove latent heat from attic and cool the inside temp to the O.S. temp. A lot cheaper than running A/C.

I have one in my stair way at top. It’s not worth it cuz it can’t be insulated. My ceiling in that area was 105 degrees and it pulls the cold air from ac.

The problem with attic and window fans are that they are useless for really high temps and humidity, and then there's the added problem of coating the whole inside of your house with dust/dirt from outside. You are much better off putting your money into at least a window A/C. When my HVAC went down a cheapo 8000 btu window unit saved the day in 115 degree Vegas heat. I paid less than $100 for it from a big box store.
+Cathy Manning Actually I do live in an HOA, but yeah, you have to put it where they can't see it. Wasn't hard in my case as every house here has 6' stone walls in the backyard. I only had to use it for a weekend anyway until the repair guy showed up the following Monday, but I could probably get away with it much longer.

How can you clean this ceiling fan? You have to go to the attic to clean it once a month.
You can just take the shutters off and clean it from below.
