Tag Heuer has got some pretty fitting frames as well
Tag is long gone, eyewear brand went out of business awhile ago but they sold most of their patented tech to McLaren eyewear.

getting my first pair of eyeglasses soon, a pair of Rimless Toki, no idea if it's good or not but anything from Japan tends to be so fingers crossed (still waiting for it to arrive)
I like the LA eyeworks. I would buy a pair of it wasn't for that circle part on both ends of the ear stems.

Have owned multiple JF Rey frames, and i am a die-hard fan of them, but i recently bought a Matsuda frame. Both are great, but Matsuda frames are superior in every way in terms of build. JF Rey wins on creativity but Matsuda build quality is out of this world. Best glasses made in Japan and completely handmade from start to finish. Acetate frames are also better than l.a. Eyeworks (since they are made in the same place, but Matsuda gives more attention to detail)
I agree Matsuda are better quality, by far, but J F Rey are so much more creative and fun
Spot on with this. I work for oakley, and literally the only other frames I'll even consider are Cazal, Jean Paul Gaultier, and topping that list is (of course) Matsuda. Every turn of the frame reveals another small and intricate detail. All of their frames are a timeless shape, and the materials are always top notch. The Japanese and the Germans have the frame design down pat.....but nobody will ever surpass the quality of oakleys lenses.
@@nickprater2785 Zeiss , Hoka (debateable), Rodenstock (debatable) , Essilor , Tokai (debatable), surpass oakley lenses. Masunaga is also up there with matsuda (but they are lesser known)

@@nickprater2785 Better tech (check out the smart life lenses) Better coatings, more strict quality control, better and more precise equipment when making the lenses.

This is true, but keep in mind some lists are made by authorized dealers so the brands on the list will be ones the dealer carries. It’s not meant to be an exhaustive list. DITA and JMM should make most Top 5s for most eyewear fans.
I like but don't love JMM + Dita, although consider JMM far better. I personally don't think they are in the top 5. maybe JMM top 10.
Nothing gets the spirit of a place as Moscot does NYC (and now London and Tokyo, among other places, apparently!). Charles, may he fully recover, looked sharp in his Lemtosh flesh shades! I know you have your criteria but I think that in all fairness, China manufacture aside (and so what, as long as the things last, and they do!), you need to have them in your top 5! Lemtosh, Theroux, Mangito, Miltzen, Telena-these and their other frames rock for their cool intellectual hip downtown NYC vibe! Just my passionate three cents here!

Maison Bonnet, Atelier Baudin and E.B. Meyrowitz are the ones that come to mind. Nackymade is another out of Japan - perhaps of a slightly lower tier. There are others. But Bonnet is generally reputed to be the highest quality frame maker anywhere in the world according to those I know in the bespoke world surpassing all other bespoke makers in quality and all ready made makers. They’re the guys who created Jackie O’s and Le Corbisier’s iconic frames among several others.

I’m surprised you didn’t put McLaren on the list since you offer that brand as well. Based on criteria that includes originality, some of their models fit the bill compared to, say, Cartier who are seen as one of the least original brands on the market.
Cartier are often imitated but IMO very original. McLaren would be top 10 for sure but they are a very new eyewear brand and I think longevity plays a part here to an extent
