      Idk why the DoPS protects Tom Wilson as much as they do. They consistently give him light punishments for injuring multiple players. 7 games while Carlo misses 3 months for what Tom did. Ended lubomir visnovski’s career with a charge to the head with only a 2 min minor called. If the nhl doesn’t suspend him indefinitely I would assume a player like reaves or another enforcer will make sure he won’t play again. It just so happens that Tom Wilson is involved again and the resulting ruling has left a sour taste in everyone's mouth except those on the Capitals. It really opens the discuss on the Player's CBA and what needs to change if there will be any change. Also for those who bandwagon for a certain and you say, "You only hate because you don't have him on your team," you need to wake up. As a former hockey player(not in the NHL but as a hobby) I would be disgusted if a teammate was that blatantly violent and then shrugged it off because he has zero morals of how the game should be and needs to be played. At every level, there needs to be accountability for all actions and if you cannot be accountable for your actions, you have no business to get paid a salary for it. I know that there is a Tough Guy code, but what Tom Wilson, Raffi Torres and other repeat offenders have done is inexcusable. Go ahead and roast me if you don't agree. I am just putting my opinion out there. The fact that every generation of Pro Hockey has had issues like this proves that little has improved. But overall I think a respected retired NHLer has to be in charge and be the face of the department. The person responsible for protecting players should be one of their own as they understand the game in ways none of us ever will. The unwritten rules, the nuances, common understandings amongst players, knowing what's a split second decision in a lightning fast game compared to a premeditated decision, along with all the rules in the rulebook.
      Who better to represent the players interests in safety more than a former player, especially one who's career was cut short due to head injuries, publicly and actively fundraises for head trauma research, and was one of the main reasons we focus on head injuries in the game today.. The issue is, if you read the Dept. player safety release, You can't suspend someone if there is No Rule in place to suspend him under. Tim even talked about that on his Tim and Friends show with Anthony Stewart. Tim went through the entire rule book and said there is no rule he could of been suspended under in regards to the Panarin stuff. He should have got a Suspension, maybe two game Minimum, for the punch to Buch head, but the Panarin thing there is no rule about it, which is why you saw the exact same thing from Konecny and Crosby yesterday, albiet a far more even match up.

    • @airwavv7054
      @airwavv7054 3 роки тому +1

      @@slickrick02 that is interesting that there is no rule for it, they may have to put something in place regards to it. I don't think the Crosby event and Wilson event were the same because of the ferocity of Wilson in the moments. You can see it in his facial expression and such when slamming down Panarin and going after him. I don't think the two are comparable in this circumstance, because the history of the two players are different, and the intent of it appeared very differently. I think the Buch thing warranted at least 1 game, but considering the history, I would say 2-3 games. For the Panarin incident, even with no rule, he should've received the heavy suspension on, I would argue 10-15 without the history, 20+ with the history. That's just my take on it. A message needs to be made to Wilson here.

    • @slickrick02
      @slickrick02 3 роки тому +1

      @@airwavv7054 Yeah, the most connectable rule is about "endangering other players to injury" I think Tim said, but it's such a pointless rule because every single fight is technically endangering a player to the possibility of injury. The crosby and konecny incident is very similar in context. Take out the head punch and focus on just Panarin v Wilson. The only difference between the two I see is Panarin was out of his weight/skill class trying to play Tom Wilson's game, where as crosby and konecny are far more evenly matched. If it had been Wilson being slammed into the ice by say Dustin Byfuglien, I guarantee there wouldnt be a massive outrage like there is now. The way I see it Anyone who enters into a scrum after the whistle does so at their own risk, and if they get injured or lose its unfortunate but this level of response about it is quite embarrassing. Also any suspension given to Wilson for the scrum would set a dangerous precedent, where the crosby/konecny tussle becomes suspendable, any after whistle tussle becomes suspendable etc and the game doesn't want that either. Kind of a hard situation for ol Parros, but somehow it's his fault.. like he wrote the rule book 🙄

I'm not trying to defend Todd Bertuzzi in any means and I apologize if it might sound like I am. I'm just saying what I think happened after watching the videos of that incident all those years ago. As you pointed out, $5,000 is nothing, and pointless. Second, a season or so ago Henrik Lundqvist sprayed Sidney Crosby with some water as he skated past, and he got a $5,000 fine. So, in the eyes of the CBA and the NHL, spraying water on someone is as bad as punching someone in the back of the head who's already down, then grabbing someone (possibly) by the hair and slamming him to the ice, causing an injury. The NHL in one hand is trying to act like they are concerned about fighting and player safety while on the other hand they are continuing to allow Wilson to do the same old crap. Then to top it off by trying to shut a team up with a fine is ridiculous. With that said, I just gained a huge amount of respect for Artemi Panarin punching way out of his weight class to defend a teammate. The head of a department in charge of player safety that does not prioritize the safety of players is not fit to head that department. The Rangers address is spot on. Players have been suspended THIS SEASON for less. I don't understand how Wilson isn't done for year, other than the ratings and coverage the sport gets when thugs do thug things. It's disgusting.

    He punched a defenseless player who was face down on the ice (pavel buchnevich) than slammed down a helmet less player (who yes, jumped onto him, so I don't really have a problem with him pushing panarin to the ice) but the fact that he then threw 2 gloved punched to a panarin after he was on the ice and wilson was clear he was helmetless. The fact that he hit him twice in the face for absolutely no reason is absurd that that has no statement from the NHL. Along with his history he should be out for at least 10 games. Calling for indefinitely is absurd, but he shouldn't see the first round of not longer. Argue it all you want but you can't justify what he did.

And costing one of the premier stars of the league the rest of their season is absolutely crossing the line. This is a little off topic, but to put it in prospective. If you are down on the ground and your head is against a hard surface. If someone is hitting you in the head or about to hit you in the head. It has been successfully argued in court that you can use lethal force to stop the person attacking you. The damage from a fist normally wouldn't allow this but when the head can't recoil to diminish the damage. It can easily cause serious bodily injury.
