King Rex your my favorite basketball player of all time. I also am a recovering addict and your right the hardest thing is forgiving yourself. Keep up the fight and I will always remember you as my favorite Kentucky player of all time, but now I am more proud of the man you have become.
UK alumni here with 8+ years in recovery. Rex, we are so grateful you keep coming back, one day at a time. You're another example that the program works if you work it.
I was a huge fan of him as a Phoenix Sun when I was a kid, and when I met him a few years ago, he was the kindest, most gracious man to this lifelong basketball fan.
Rex you ain't alone man ...many people had medicine turn into other issues...you are a bright guy that lacks a lot of racial & relationship hangups...& That makes you an adjusted human ..im 54...bleed blue big-time...thanks for the great entertainment man ..
I've dealt with addiction all of my adult life, have been clean for 10 years and relapsed and continue to deal with my demons but it's great to see that we do recover
I read the book, thoroughly enjoyed it as I did not know that Rex had all of these problems. Proud of him for persevering and thus far, overcoming his issues. An amazing read!
I had a major surgery done in one of my legs to remove a tumor. After the surgery, I spent a week in the hospital and they gave me a pump with morphine for about three days and sent me home after with Vicodin. It was a prescription for 30 days, one per day. I did not finish the pills because I was feeling better and did not have much pain any more. So of the 30 days I took about 18 or 20 days of Vicodin. The first thing you realize is that you are completely constipated by the medication, that by itself is awful. Then, after stopping the pills, I was having nightmares, tremors, I would wake up drenched in sweat like if I had been jogging two hours. So basically I was having withdrawal symptoms after roughly 3 weeks. That medication is likely one of the worst I’ve taken. So to hear someone say he was taking that many Vicodins per day is absolutely nuts.
It is crazy, but I've heard similar stories from other athletes, pro wrestlers in particular, that the body quickly builds a tolerance to these drugs to the point that it might take 40 pills a day to get the same high that the first pill gave them on day 1. I'm not against Big Pharma per say, there are legit needs, but it is a billion dollar racket too.
Yes ,Glad to hear Rex has recovered met Rex back in the mid 80"s when he played at Kentucky with a very good friend of mine really down to earth guy met his Dad also Remember the 80"s and 90"s were era where Drugs was everywhere.
There's so much joy and healing that can come from doing what you love. Basketball was my salvation during a difficult period in my life, so was art during another incredibly difficult couple of years later. To come out on the other side is such a blessing
Trolls flock to the light, because they live in the dark. What a 🤡 Rex's story has helped many people, including people on this thread. I hope you never lose someone to addiction! ✌️
1988. Market Square Arena. Summer. Larry Bird held a charity basketball game called "Larry's Game." Rex Chapman was walking around on the floor well ahead of the game. I had a media credential and as he walked toward me, I said "Hey Rex. Good to see you. Would you mind signing..." I didn't get the rest out. He sneered and hurled a derogatory comment at me. Here it is 36 years later and that's my first and lasting impression of Rex Chapman. Lesson? Just be nice to people.
You are 100% right! I remember, as a teenager, receiving what seemed like an icy reception from Althea Gibson in Princeton, NJ, when I politely requested her autograph, which she gave. However, we don't know what crap, trauma, or crisis people have encountered within a few minutes or a few hours or days before our paths cross. Being in a horrible "head or heart-space" never makes rudeness acceptable, but realizing that people's different temperaments and life experiences will have them--and us--make poor choices sometimes when interacting with others provides a means of extending grace and forgiveness that we would want to receive when we misstep.
Please consider free basketball camps for at risk young children in areas that need a good character/authentic/ real humanitarian role model. Blessings in your journey!!!
I got a chance to see him in person at the McDonald's all-American game in Detroit. For not his struggles he would have been better than most white ball players that ever played the game. I'm happy for him and I know his story. He is still one of my favorite players ever!! God bless you brother, the African American community has adopted you ❤
Still have your rookie card my man and I’m coming up on 8 years drug and alcohol free. Those damn pills tried to take me down. Much love and happy you found the road back. ODAAT ✌️❤️🙏
It’s not his fault he got hooked on pills. But, it was his strength that got him on the other side. After recovery, it’s time to be happy with yourself and life. Wish you well.
Being from Charlotte , like most Hornets fans , I have always had ambivalent feelings about Rex. He was so emotionally immature as a Hornet . ..yet so physically talented. 40 Vicodin a day?? OMG . How do you survive that ? An ER MD gave me one one time and all the pain I had magically floated away . With ONE . How are you still alive ?
I am a UNC fan but when he says the school is making so much money off him I disagree. Boosters are tuned in the complete local economy. His fame to the entire local economy was worth a lot. His worth to the school was only a part of it and most school athletics departments struggle financially. His fame helped the school. I agree athletes should be allowed to unionize if they want to.
I advocate for adults with special needs. Today I had a doctor refuse my requests to not prescribe oxy to a individual with a history of rec drug abuse and a learning disability. He checked ALL the boxes to not use oxy including family history. And the doctor simply refused to give him a different med. She set him up-to fail. It's a shame... hopefully me showing him this video will help him listen to me and not this shaky doctor.
He tells a funny story about going everywhere with Del Curry and Mugsy Bogues because they all lived in the same apartment complex in Charlotte. Del always drove with Mugsy riding shotgun and Rex in the back seat because he was a rookie. The punchline is - little did we know that the best player of us all was riding next to me - one year old Steph Curry in his car seat.
Kool story. So your telling me if I become a drug addict, spend all my money, and then spew ridiculous lies on the Internet. I too could become a king and get interviewed on CBS. Sign me up
Stop blaming it on the drugs. It’s your own Morrow failings. And you chose to go down that path so you have to suffer the consequences and take responsibility.
I empathize with the struggle and love that he was able to succeed in so many ways, I just can't take the far, far left politics on certain issues. I get the disingenuous angles to try and paint anyone as "racist" etc if they don't agree with you, but he's taken it too far. You can have a different opinion and not be racist.
If he was playing today, damn to win a three-point contest and a dunk contest that’s what kind of player he was look up on UA-cam. Take me later. Bronx in the building.
CBS I'm the author of EIGHT DAYS IN AN INNER CITY SCHOOL please talk about the out of control OCCUPATIONAL LICENSING for k-12 teachers that's why we have teacher shortages
The Boy Who Would Be King as we say in Kentucky. Good on ya brother for telling your story. We love you man.
Thank you for sharing your story Rex Chapman. Great job CBS…
King Rex your my favorite basketball player of all time. I also am a recovering addict and your right the hardest thing is forgiving yourself. Keep up the fight and I will always remember you as my favorite Kentucky player of all time, but now I am more proud of the man you have become.
Rex was a force. It’s a great story to overcome those kinds of obstacles.
UK alumni here with 8+ years in recovery. Rex, we are so grateful you keep coming back, one day at a time. You're another example that the program works if you work it.
Big Blue supporting Rex Chapman ! He was one of the best !
Man what a history at UK...hated everywhere else 😂... especially in Florida...
I was a huge fan of him as a Phoenix Sun when I was a kid, and when I met him a few years ago, he was the kindest, most gracious man to this lifelong basketball fan.
Really? Tell him you love Trump and watch his bile flow
@willard2729 Trunp makes my bile flow too, so what's your point?
Great interview.
Love Rex.
Admire Rex.
The personal growth is inspiring.
Rex Chapman was my basketball hero in college…and he’s still a hero today. I’m proud of you Rex…

This guy defined my high school years.
Chris herren has an amazing story of how he beat addiction and now talks to young people about the dangers of drugs
Agreed!
Straight up
He’s now addicted to the drug of leftism and so he seeks to destroy other people’s lives
What about the most dangerous drug - leftism? He’s deeply addicted and that addiction harms the entire world
I read the book, thoroughly enjoyed it as I did not know that Rex had all of these problems. Proud of him for persevering and thus far, overcoming his issues. An amazing read!
thats super awesome rex can share his journey with others. kudos to him and his courage .

As a UNC grad and fan, I admit Rex was a BEAST on the court. So glad to see him get his life together.
What an amazing person. An inspiration for all of us! Thank you Rex.
He’s riddled with hatred

Rex! I'm so proud of you! And for something so much more important than basketball. And I LOVE basketball 🙂Well done brother. Well done indeed! ❤
God Bless You Rex 🏀🙏
Loved watching him growing up. Loved those wild treys from the arc. What a legend and glad to c u getting back on track
Very underrated player, wish him well
The State of Kentucky loves him unconditionally.
lol, not surprising.

@@dgstamper1 I lost a sibling to addiction. She was a generous, loving soul, not an unhinged, intolerant, hateful leftist like Rex Chapman.
You will always be my hero
Rex Chapman was tough at Kentucky. I saw him dismantle a good Auburn team one year.

He made that dunk look like a normal day at the office... thats a 50 at a dunk contest

Great interview, Dana. You're awesome. And Rex, Love ya. Go BBN! :)
Good to see people comeback. Not everybody does - sadly.
absolutely, gotta admire Rex’s strength and determination, along with the others that are able to recover as well 💯
He looks good...weight loss and being happy does wonders
Rex Chapman you are amazing.....your words and honesty will help so many. God bless you!
Good for him !
So true that we will say the most hateful things about ourselves that we wouldn’t tolerate to be said about someone else.
Not Rex. His most hateful words are for people who disagree with him politically
I remember you I was wondering what happened to you
GOD bless you 🙏🏾
Remarkable that he bounced back from drug addiction to stealing content and posting it as his own on Twitter 🥰

40 Vicodin a day?? OMG . How do you survive that ? An ER MD gave me one one time and all the pain I had magically floated away . With ONE . How are you still alive ?
Brett Favre was a huge Vicodin addict. That stuff is really bad...
That’s awesome he’s bounced back!!! After the computer stealing thing I thought he was a goner. I didn’t know there was more going on.
Rex is the man
And he’ll block you if you disagree with he’s post

What lies did he spew.

Happy for you and all the people that struggle with addiction
A good dude.
No. He’s a hate-filled leftist
CBS loves to pound that race issue whenever there's the slightest opportunity.

If he was playing today, damn to win a three-point contest and a dunk contest that’s what kind of player he was look up on UA-cam. Take me later. Bronx in the building.
He should have waited until 2023-24 to steal anything from the big box stores. They don’t do anything now. He could have gotten away with it 😂😂
Rex Chapman was a good nba player - Charlotte Hornets days

I know what you mean Rex about looking up and you are 55. Here’s to a great next 55:)

Glory to God
Rex Chapman ?! I thought that was Howie Mandel
😮😮😮😮😮😮
Explains his politics
"This is medicine , not drugs.. lol.":: 😆 🤣 😂 😹 😆 🤣 😅🎉
Fam played for the Hornets.
Rex is the biggest loser of all time on X/Twitter. Total rock bottom laughing stock. Very sad guy.
This guy should sue Wikipedia. In the bio link they wrote the most horrible crap that obviously can’t be true. He should sue.
Once a thief always a thief. Hide your valuables.
another narcissist.... whole life people have kissed him and he has to write a book about himself
You don't know what a narcissistic is do you? He is sharing his story
40 a day lol not
Rex is way too left side
He had more steals off the court than on.
Rooting for a relapse. He stinks.
Rex is an embarrassment
Who cares
Liberal
Rex wasn’t too bright and unbelievably immature and ignorant
How come we always glamorize people who constantly make bad decisions in life Buy my book im broke .
