you deserve every bit of success you have Chris. i remember years ago watching you when there was just your mobile home out there on the farm watching what you've bilt has truly been a privilege. you're one of the main reasons i got into dirt work and now started my own company
This really brings back memories. i am retired and 79. In the mid 60’s I owned a tandem dump truck and was hauling gravel from a pit in Loveland Ohio and loaded under a shovel just like yours for several years before going into the service. I’ve watched you and Dirt Perfect for several years enjoy you both very much. Thanks for the fast back. Jim
I am so happy for you, Chris. You talked about this when you bought the property, and seeing all of it come to fruition is wonderful. The location where you are building that pole barn venue is gorgeous, and I agree that those trees are beautiful. Congratulations to you both and may you have loads of bookings.
Another nice addition to the farm! There's a reason your doing so good... You work your ass off & always thinking ahead. Nice to see the old iron along with the newer getting a workout on your own project.
My guess is that anyone renting the venue would also be renting the cabin. This way, venue noise is caused by the people renting the cabin. It is unlikely that a private cabin would be rented at same time as a large event at venue
I was going to ask “Why build a beautiful cabin by a lake, then plant a venue in front of it?” 🤣 This makes a little more sense. Good to see you growing, Chris. Hopefully you’ll be free to do some work in Tennessee 😊
Cabin across the still water of the pond is a magnificent view. I am so happy for you, transforming your property to work for you. Commendable with great success for the future.
Pretty confident after watching the last few "farm project" videos, Chris does not sleep. He just moves from job to job, and then goes home to jump on the skid-steer and drive Barney around. Let's not forget a little "Betty" love too. Love the commitment! Keep it up!
I really enjoy seeing old iron still doing what it was built for decades ago. It’s slower and a lot less efficient than the new machines used today but it can still get the job done. I thought you were digging the clay to add onto your machinery shed. I remember you mentioned doing that several videos ago. I had no idea you were planning on building an event pavilion near your newly finished cabin. I think that’s a great idea
Weddings and other events used to be held in church basements. However things have gotten so much more elaborate that those spaces are no longer enough. Where I live event spaces usually have at least a year leadtime to book them.
Those old girls are in their glory right now. They are feeling loved! Makes me think of Mike Mulligan and his steam shovel. Still have mine from elementary school.
Same here. Was my favourite book as a kid. Still is, in a way! So may we name the shovel Mary-Anne? Although it doesn’t fit into the Flintstones theme.
I'm glad to see that the old iron is working out for you, I think you have really enjoyed making this video for everyone else to enjoy and keep up the amazing work. As always stay safe
Further commitment to using your old machines, and making them more than yard decorations. I definitely approve of that. It should give you a whole new appreciation for modern hydraulics and electronics when you're back to normal work. And even if you're digging up your hay field, you're at least keeping the topsoil handy for the expansion to replace that area, and the moos are helping generate organic matter to make more soil.
I enjoyed it too watching you loading Barney it brought back memory in my young day I like the start of you at the gate the house and the pond nice one mate do more with the shovel and give the old girl a paint job hey cheers
Chris I really like seeing you use the old iron. Not many creature comforts in the old iron. Back when machines were made of steel no plastic. I’m 71 years old still running iron and working on them. Keep practicing on that old iron and you will make a pretty good hand.👍 9:26
Phenomenal job, Chris the cabin looks stunning from the pond side. The old iron never dies, it's as you said lonfmg ago it's that tier zero emissions. Keep up the great work.
Absolutely love watching your videos and helping you become a multimillionaire! LOL You're the kind of people that make our country grow ! Just to note you and I have shaken hands at equipment shows. 👍
Heck, with a couple more days on that bucket shovel... you can take it to the next job ! Lots of the old-time logging roads in the PNW were built with an old CAT, a bucket loader, and a 5 yard dump truck. Looks like a half-yard load on the bucket.
It's been a pleasure following you all these years & seeing the fruits of your labor pay off. Nice seeing that old iron working also, definitely won't have computer problems with them..
🇮🇪☘️🇺🇸 you are a visionary Chris , the cabin is gorgeous ⭐️ smart man getting himself set for the future and yep BAM BAM lolol does indeed go very well with Fred !!! ( flintstones) but they get the job done beautifully!! Blessings Chris!!!
You are really getting proficient in running your old iron, impressive,I remember you talking about building the venue area, back a few years ago. I was watching one of your old videos from 16 years ago, amazing what you have accomplished over the span of time.the shovel seems to be working out really well, amazing job for its age.cannot wait for watch the videos of the build taking shape, plus all your upcoming projects.just continue on doing what you’re mind comes up with.great video.be safe, less than a week before your down here in central Florida.👍👍👍😎😎😎
We went to Western Minnesota Steam Thresher Show a few years ago. They had an area with old equipment like that in operation, even had a steam shovel. Us guys spent almost a day watching all the old equipment dig and move dirt.
Yep, I knew it was gonna be some kind of building !! I remember when you was doing the Cabin , you said, something about it, building one down the road after the cabin was done !! Was pretty cool watching the Old shovel work !! Those Old Machines are cool as hell !! Got that pad looking good Man !! Great as Always Chris, Have a Great Evening, And, On too the Next !!
All the very best with the Farm stay cabin. Thank you for taking us on your dream journey - this was a huge surprise. Will be wonderful to see it all come to fruition LetsDig18. The shovel does a great job given its vintage.
Use insulating wrap on your metal barn and roof. Keeps the metal condensation from dripping all over the place. You can get it in a thick white pad that reflects light and looks decent. Some use insulated bubble wrap with silver backing. I bought a place with a nice metal building, but they did not put insulation under the metal and it sweats and drips all over the place if you try to run heat inside. Also gets hot in the summer as sun heats metal up. Lighter outside colors also don't get near as hot as dark colors. Most weddings are Spring, Summer, Fall and non-insulated metal buildings can put you on slow bake.
Bet you're having a blast using the old iron it's got to be fun used to watch shovels like that was kid in 50s doing rd work Digging up rock off side walls When kid i had toy like that
That was surprising! Sad though, losing more farm land. The 330 is defiantly faster then the shovel. :) Betty for the win. :) Thank you and have good day.
Chris one of the problems with the 977 was it had no counter weight if you had a full bucket and started to raise the boom and backed over a berm or rock she wanted to stand on her nose. First time it happened to me was feeding a crusher backed up over a big rock and she came up and scared the heck out of me. They were good machines ran one in early 70s feeding rock crushers😎
Thats was great to watch Mat. The way you clear the head on that D4 was fun to watch. Lol Thats what I get for watching 2 vids at the same time. Watching Chris use the old iron is really fun! If I book a stay. Does that include operating the 955 and 953. Maybe the drag line. That would be a great vacation. Lol
Running that shovel sure makes you appreciate the accomplishments that our forefathers had building things like the Panama Canal (120 years ago) and such. Also makes you appreciate the modern equipment like your Volvo 220 or the 300. Still great to see the old iron still moving. Not sure that your 220 or the 300 will still be moving 50-80 years from now. Thank for sharing. Surprised you are not building the equipment shed first. I know that the venue barn is a potential cash income, but the cost of maintaining and preserving equipment seems a better investment. At least in my mine. Thanks for sharing. I hope all works well for you.
Chris there’s two venues close to me both of them are old barns that have been renovated and it doesn’t matter which one you call both of them are pretty much booked out till may of this year. The one barn is a original barn on the Firestone Tire Farms where they use to test agriculture and off-road tires and that barn is huge
I can't watch one of those bottom jaw buckets without thinking of Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel Mary Ann. Now, I am starting to wonder if that was the start of me naming equipment and giving machines feelings? Nice Work 👍😁
The picture of the cabin was just awesome! That old iron ain't dead yet. It did a good job, maybe a lot slower than the modern equipment you have. But, it got the job done. And just remember, 50 or 60 years ago that was top of the line, maybe not top of the line, but they were used to dig the foundations of buildings and roads of today.
60 years ago i got taught how to run a shovel like that by my dad at a north western ohio stone quarry. Shoveling lime stone on Saturday morning's was the best. I set on a milk box on top of the seat to see... lol
It’s fun to see the bucket count difference between the ol’ school shovel, 220, 350 and Bettie! Amazing to thinks that the 350 and Bettie are about the same!
Always like what you do ! Fun with vintage equipment but it really shows how far we have come! The new stuff is amazing! Kind of a bummer though that the cabin is going to loss that back in the woods seclusion feel when you start adding the other buildings. Either way I would possibly like to rent it.
Haven’t been able to keep up with your videos as much as I use to over the past years but have you ever showed an overview or update of your shop/carport next to your house? Last video I saw was you tearing down some older buildings next to it but that was years ago. Enjoying the videos when I can!
Love to see those old "steam" shovels. Even though it's not real steam. @letsdig18 Great price for the cabin hope to stay there sometime

MAD! OPERATING SKILLZ????
Anyone else having a hard time finding an available opening? I've spot checked about 20 weekends, all sold out!
Betty should go visit the guys at C n C for a spa treatment.

Yes, he does. Rare to see someone so young with the work ethic Chris has
The way the door slams on the shovel you should call it BAM BAM
Yeah he seems to have a Flintstones theme going on with his equipment. But I gotta wonder where is Wilma? Lol
@@lenny5355 roadgrader
I sure he already call the sheep foot roller bam bam once a while back, it looks more like Dino lol
Yeah we all know Bam Bam made a lot of noise.
I'm tellin' yah, its gotta be Mary-anne

Wow... the new cabin and pond look GREAT..... WTG Chris
It's great to see that old shovel back to work. It really does need a paint job, though. Thanks, Chris.
Another nice addition to the farm!

Cabin over the pond looks good!

I liked this video so much. So much of the old iron is in scarp yards Ruston down I like to see it brought back to life😊
Great to see that old shovel still able to do a days work. Fabulous. 👍
I never knew Betty was a dancer, but watching how much time she spends twirling on tippy toes, she's shown her chops!
Appreciate the vintage appeal for the project. Makes for some great videos how our ancestors built this country. Thanks man!
