Did you know that many years ago he dreamed of becoming a baseball player? Our lovable NCIS star Pauley Perrette as Abby Sciuto is superactive offscreen as well as her character. Whose life before NCIS seems the most surprising to you?
Don't you mean Tom Harmon was a football player.
Tom Harmon played for the Michigan Wolverines and was awarded the Heisman trophy before going pro. Mark Harmon also played college football, going with UCLA, but never went pro.
Soccer? SOCCER?!!! WTF? Yeah, I'm DEFINITELY going to trust you to get your facts correct after you completely f***-up the first thing you address. *Sarcasm*
Remove this video it has information that is not accurate do some research and re upload with correct information
This video sucked because the spoken script was horribly written and contained incorrect information. Take it down.
There was an NCIS episode where Ducky went missing. Gibbs was asked what Ducky looked like, he replied like Illya Kuryakin. I thought that was golden, and figured most viewers wouldn't get the reference.
I guess most younger viewers have never seen the original Man from UNCLE. Illya Kuryakin was a household name in the US in the 1960s.
After he said that I looked up the name. Brilliant!
I laughed when Mark said that line!!! Loved it!!!
I caught it.
But if you know who he was, you'd know that he was so multi-talented, you'd wonder why others left him out of any awards. I'm sure that David was so humble, other things were more important than just himself-like his family, others, and his work.
David McCallum was famous loooong before NCIS.
Elizabeth Cox So was Mark Harmon. Remember the TV show St Elsewhere?
@@PAjeannie66 Definitely. It just hit me more with David McCallum since he was one of my childhood crushes! Over 50 years ago!
@@elizabethcox5911 Oh, goodness, yes! He is why I started watching NCIS and then I got hooked.
Yes he was Famous, but he fame had lessened a great deal, between the Man from Uncle and NCIS, he acting credits including a very short lived series called the Invisible Man, and a British Scifi series (now with cult status) Sapphire and Steel.
True, but he still had been famous before anyone else on the show. NCIS brought him back into the limelight.
Gibbs was once asked what Ducky looked like when he was younger. He thought for a moment and said "Illya Kuryakin."
He was my favorite character on The Man from U.N.C.L.E
I think he was most people's favorite on The Man from UNCLE. I always preferred Illya. The fact that Illya was smart and good looking--but wasn't chasing every woman he saw, made him all the more attractive.
As soon as I saw this video thumbnail that scene is the exact scene I thought of first.
Tom Harmon didn't play soccer he was in the NFL and a hero in world war 2.
I was like "Soccer Player? Really?!?"
Tom also played football for Michigan and won a Heisman Trophy. And Mark was a quarterback for UCLA
@@celiasasic1084 Tom Harmon's ghost is going to haunt whoever wrote this script! Btw, when I was a freshman at Michigan State, I watched Mark Harmon quarterback the UCLA team, in the pouring rain, if I recall correctly.
Mark Harmon's father won the Heissman Trophy. Mark also played football in college (QB) which explains why he is the only man on tv who runs naturally and with ease.
He wasn't in ww2!!
Marvelous & Informative Interview. I hope Mr. McCallum's book, "Once a Crooked Man", is still in print or on Amazon. Looking forward to reading it & watching NCIS. Shawneequa Pearson Wyche
Mark is someone who still can hold a good handsome look even at 70s...I remember watching him for the first time in Flamingo Road, and got hook with him since
David McCallum was a TON more famous during "The Man From UNCLE" than on NCIS. Like, almost Beatles famous.
But "NCIS" had lasted 4x as long.
Porfle popnecker, you're so right. He was the leading heartthrob in man from u.n.c.l.e
what was the man from uncle?
Wm Caine, man from u.n.c.l.e. was a spy program with david McCallum n robt Vaughn as the leading characters in the early 70s I believe.
David McCallum is in quite a few British films of the 50s and 60s,always been a quality actor 👌
'Ducky' is and was a key feature, that was what made NCIS Great, the Personalities
Paulie Perrette is such a wonderful soul! Not only does she work with animals, she is also an advocate for the homeless. Despite the homeless stalker who seriously caused her problems a few yrs ago. You are definitely an angel on Earth, Miss Perrette!
LOL!!!! When discussing David McCallum’s parents, they showed a picture of his ex-wife, Jill Ireland, with her next husband, Charles Bronson.
Thank you for your attentiveness. We are really sorry for this weird mistake!
Gibby Cates I was pretty sure that was Charles Bronson but didn’t think he was old enough to be ducky’s father
That really threw me! I didn't realize that he was married to Jill Ireland. Thx for explaining that.
@@BarbaraRomano-akatropicgal55 Yes, they were married and had three sons. It was quite shocking in the '60's when she left McCallum for Bronson.
Ireland met Bronson while he was working with McCallum on The Great Escape. She made one or two of her Man From UNCLE appearances after getting together with Bronson.
Sean Murray played a character on JAG too.
David McCallum's past was reference in-universe too, as his Man From Uncle Character was mentioned in NCIS.
NCIS is my favorite show of all I’ve ever followed. The cast of characters are dynamic and keep me hooked from week to week.
I remember when Mark Harmon was in the movie Summer School.
80’s movies are the best. Summer school was good shit!
Would have liked a sequel to that.
My h.s. years were never like it, but still I loved the music. Kirstie Alley was a lot prettier back then-like she was as Lt. Saavik.
They also didn't mention the fact that Mark Harmon appeared on West Wing as a Secret Service Agent assigned to protect C.J. and his character was shot and killed. It was his performance there that caught the eyes of the powers that be leading to becoming Gibbs.
Also played an ex MP turned city cop in the movie The Presidio with Sean Connery.
Dude, his dad won the Heissman trophy, he was a football player not a soccer player.
Mark Harmon made a few appearances on the last episodes of Adam 12 and was also on Emergency! And David McCallum was an accomplished actor in many films, the stage, and of course, played one of the great iconic characters in TV history, Illya Kuryakin.
"He went to four colleges but didn't graduate from either one." ...apparently, neither did your script writer. Look up the definition of 'either' some time.
I saw that too. There’s not enough time to correct all the errors.
i can never forget David Mccallum in The Invisible Man... Love that show.
Bert carandang I didn't see it.
me too. I wasnt old enough for the Man from Uncle, this was my first introduction!!
Jimmy Palmer wasn't a doctor when he first appeared in the show, he qualified much later. I remember an episode when he told them.
Few things...
1) the thing I found most surprising was not even mentioned but, I understand. Pauley Perrette grew up in Alabama just a few counties away from where I grew up! :-)
2) Some people use "football" and "soccer" interchangeably depending on where they're from
3) Why did we leave out Ziva?
I can remember David maccallum from the movie "a night to remember " about the titanic sinking and probably one of the better portrayals of the incident. Mind you it was made in the 50s when they had survivors able to give advice to the actors. David played one of the radio operators & his character survived.
Just imagine ordering pizza and Micheal weatherly delivers it. Years later you see him on a TV show our watching as a famous after. Me personally that would be hilarious.
Most of the cast was famous/known before NCIS. David McCallum had been a TV star since the 60s
And was in films.
He was also involved in plays for the Peachtree Playhouse in Atlanta. I have 4 of his musical records-in which he conducted many tunes even my parents appreciated-and narrated stories for Caedmom records. I wonder if they're available on cd-like his first 2 records. I also have his first signed book, wishing he could've finished his 2nd book. RIP, David. Consoles to his family and fans.
Mark Harmon’s father was Tom Harmon who was a football player not a soccer player as stated in the video. Not only that, Tom Harmon won the Heisman Trophy in 1940.
Michael Weatherly "Attended 4 colleges but didn't graduate from either one".........HUH?????....."Tom Harmon played soccer".... Say What??? Who wrote this dribble?......LOL!
Someone is obviously confused between American Football and European Football (Soccer).
Mark Thoms 'soccer' comes from the official name 'association football'.
@@ianmoseley9910 , And what does that have to do with the narrator calling Tom Harmon a soccer player???
I think that you meant drivel
I believe you mean drivvle!
Summer School was one of my favorite movies growing up
McCallum, Harmon, Weatherly, Holly, Carroll, Spano were all known before NCIS...
Your video is an eye opener. 👍
Thank you so much for the dedication & research that went into it.
5:07 -- Charles Bronson and Jill Ireland are not David McCallum's parents.
David McCallum was Jill Ireland's first husband; Charles Bronson was her second.
I knew when I saw the picture-that was impossible! Why did they do that? Bronson has/had nothing to do with/about David McCallum and why stick a picture of his x wife in an article about actors on NCIS. BTW I thought McCallum was sexy when I first saw him as the Russian on TV and I still think he's sexy. All men should age so well.
Mark Harmon rules.
Summer school awesome movie.
In my mind Mr. Shoop quite teaching joined the Marine Corps, became super badass and morphed Leroy Jethro Gibbs.
I actually got into an argument in a bar over Sean Murray, and the bosses stepson comment. You see, I was also the boss's son. Not only did my dad work me 10 times harder than anyone else. All my co-workers, taking their cue from him. Treated me like low man on the totem pole all the time. Plus I usually ended up going to other jobs. And working hard. Just so I didn't have to go to the fallback position of being the low grunt on the totem pole
Don't forget David McCallum in the BBC series Colditz along with "Tony Dinozzo's"father Robert Wagner.
It was also his father that suggested to Jimmy Page to try playing a guitar with a violin bow
Was that David's father or David himself? Dad was David Sr.
I love them all
I had the pleasure of meeting Mark Harmon and his then-girlfriend Christina Raines a billion years ago when they appeared together in the play "Key Exchange" in Toronto. Charming and fun, both of them. But Mark Harmon first came to my attention in the TV cop show "240 Robert" -- which this video didn't mention.
Love them all
Wilmer Valderrama, who's in it at the moment, was in That 70s Show some years before doing NCIS.
Of all the Beloved NCIS semi-permanent cast you've left out this Ziva
Good, makes me want to watch it more, not having to see her!
NCIS was her first major role.
I like this commentary! Great stuff!
Mark Harmon achieved some success in sports? He was the star quarterback at UCLA for two years, for crying out loud.
Tom Harmon was a football player, not a soccer player. He was the first Michigan player to win the Heisman Trophy.
Tom Harmon, aka Old 98, played for the Michigan Wolverines (Ann Arbor). His son, Mark Harmon, was a UCLA (University of California at Los Angeles) football player,
They both. won the Heisman Trophy it was a big deal at the time. Mark was drafted by a couple of teams at the time, but he said he chose acting because he thought he could have longer career as an actor.
So Michael Weatherly has the real Tony Dinozzo life-story bits in his character? Great!
NCIS was LUCKY, Every Character has been played by the only person alive that was meant to play it . FANTASTIC.
Ducky was in Great Escape.. That's pretty cool
Everyone was in The Great Escape.
The Movie Chicken Run was the remake of Great Escape. Not sure which one is David McCullum. The Rooster plays Steve McQueen.
Great video review of the cast of NCIS
My fav Harmon films were summer school and the presidio. Heck of a job in each. Not bad for a kid from Burbank.
Let's not forget Mark Harmon's walk-on role as the short-lived love interest of Maddie Hayes on "Moonlighting"... which led to his foray as a spokesman for Coors beer, a guest-host appearance on Saturday Night Live, and his casting as the male lead in the movie "Summer School" alongside a uber-hot Kirstie Alley.😀
And his mom was Elyse Knox of THE MUMMY'S TOMB.
If I remember correctly he won sexiest man alive for his stint on Moonlighting not St Elsewhere
When I first saw David McCallum on TV in 1979 he was Steel on the hit show "Sapphire and Steel" co-starring with Joanna Lumley. While Michael Weatherly was Eyes Only/Logan Cale on "Dark Angel" co-starring with Jessica Alba.
I met David McCallum during his "Illya Nickovitch Kuryakin days" in Sydney, Australia years and years ago.
Wow! I Didn't get to meet him til '76 and '78. A very kind and extremely talented man!
I love that you used his middle name. :)
Mark Harmon will always be Mr. Shoop! Dave and Chainsaw should have made cameo's on NCIS. Can't believe they forgot Summer School when they said he didn't do movies. Also did The Presidio with Sean Connery
And Fr3aky Friday remake
FREAKY
Michael weatherely also had a part in the show charmed as well.
Nothing on ziva?!
NCIS was her first major role she was in her early 20s.
Cheryl I totally agree I was thinking where is Ziva but then I realised she was only 23 when she started NCIS so she didn't really do anything before🙂
With all the information going on about the THE TITANIC, I'm surprised it was not pointed out that one of The first movie roll David had was as one of the Marconi operators in the now famous mood A NIGHT TO REMEMBER! He lived?
Harold Bride.
There really wasn't a time when McCallum wasn't famous. Whether it was as a bandleader, as the star of TWO groundbreaking episodes of the original Outer Limits, or as the co-star of THE MAN FROM UNCLE alongside Robert Vaughn and Leo G. Carroll (formerly of TOPPER fame---not to mention the classic sci-fi film TARANTULA a giant spider that got blown to smithereens by Clint Eastwood). For the rest of them: Abby (Pauley Perrette) had a fine time co-starring on the second season SPECIAL UNIT 2 (the American Science Fiction Series that Russell Davies plagiarized when he "created" TORCHWOOD). And Mark, he did a pretty good job on St Elsewhere and Chicago Hope...so...before they were famous?
You mean to you Millennials, then?
Perhaps you should call this what it is: "Before my Generation heard of these already famous people."
I was a grad student at UCLA when Mark was the quarterback of the football team. I remember those games well.
Fake news! Come on guys! Get it together! That's not David Mc Callum's parents @ 5:08. That's Charles Bronson and Mc Callum's ex wife Jill Ireland. They met on the set while filming "The Great Escape".
We appreciate your attentiveness. Sorry for this mistake!
1mespud yes and Charlie said to David Im going to Mary her David said that my wife but on a good note Charlie , Jill and David remained friends up to Jill and Charlie Death. Jill as first to go.
@@OSSAchannel BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think it was classic. LOL
I remember when Mark Harmon was the QB for UCLA back in the day. His dad, Tom Harmon, was a play by play announcer for the Bruins back then. I remember those Special K commercials! I enjoyed watching David McCullum when he was the partner to Robert Vaughn in the Cold War spy series, "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." I believe McCallum also did narration work on a documentary series in the 1990s. I also liked Wilmar Valderrama when he played "FES" on THAT 70s SHOW!
After the Promise - I cried my heart out. Mark Harmond ❤️
Without d
I really liked Harmon in 240 Robert it would be so great if NCIS could get him to sing Saddle my dreams in a show
@6:40 I was waiting for one of those girls to run into that trash can.....Thank you for not disappointing.
Thank you so much for your information about the actors on NCIS look forward to seeing more
David McCallum had many huge tv hits
after man from uncle. sapphire and Steele
the invisible man and coldits for example
Well, my days of Not Taking You Seriously are definitely coming to a middle
You did not do much research to start with, Video uploaded 2018. Minus 40 years in 1978 and Mark Harmon was 28 and already working as a full time actor. in 78 is when the first series he starred in was cancelled. It was called Sam--and he played a cop. Also Tom Harmon was considered one of the best US collage FOOTBALL players of his generation
I enjoyed your video "Before They Were Famous: NCIS". But I have one blooper to point out. Charles Bronson and Jill Ireland are not the parents of David McCallum.
We're glad you liked it and we appreciate your attentiveness. Sorry for this blooper!
OSSA calling it a blooper is a big understatement
Only one??? How about calling Tom Harmon a "Soccer" Player? Someone is obviously confused between American Football and European Football (Soccer).
Jill Ireland was David's wife before Bronson.
Bob Stafford more than 1 blooper. Micheal Weatherly attended 4 colleges but didn't graduate from either one, what happened to the other 2. Plus other bloopers people already mentioned.
Doesn't anyone remember 240 Robert??? I loved that show. Mark Harmon rocked that one along with Mathew Perry's dad!
Super team. 👌
Sean murray acting is really great in ncis
Seen Mark Harmon on the 1987 Movie Summer School with co star Kirstie Alley
How good was that mobie
@@karloomick The movie was ok. Not bad.
If I ever see Mark Harmon smile, and I DON'T smile, it's time to pull the plug.
Both of my parents went to Valdosta State University the SAME YEAR as Pauley Perrette! I thought that was pretty cool
Sean Murray is my favorite NCIS star. He doesn't get near credit he deserves. He made that show what it is. Brian Deitzen also another under noticed actor.
He looks so old now. Does he smoke? By the time he gets 85, he'll probably look older than David does now.
@@virginiaconnor8350 I don't know, but he lost a lot of weight a few years ago he lost over a hundred pound.
@@saraw5942That can do it too.
David slowly voiced for cartoon chrs. and was the only one to use his own voice for Ducky's in the "NCIS" computer voice.
I think Pauley Perrrette is one of the hottest actresses around.
Eu adoro eles.
David McCallum was famous before most of the views were born
Cote de pablo is my favorite..I love ziva...I am SO much like her personality and skills...and I love her and mark they are just adorable xxx❤❤❤🔯🔯🔯
OMG. OMG. OMG. The picture they show that's supposed to be David McCallum's parents is actually his ex-wife and the guy who stole her from him. Seriously? And you can tell this wasn't scripted by an American. Tom Harmon played football (did they clearly not look at the included pic of Tom H.), as did Mark. U.S. football, not soccer. Surprised an American narrator didn't figure that one out. And forty years ago, Mark had already been acting for 8 years. Somebody needs to do their homework.
OMG. This is the worst narrative I've heard online yet! What were they thinking? Or weren't they? Don't get your screen news from these OSSA, people. Really. Don't
Ossa is based in America so why isn't it scripted by an American,
@@stephenlong8379 Possibly and immigrant to America. No native of the US is going to equate the term "football" to soccer. Also the mistakes the made were the kind of thing someone who was unfamiliar with the subjects could misconstrue. Before you get your PC knickers in a twist, consider that this is supposed to be factual information. How ever they managed to screw it up, there is a ton of misinformation in this video and from this source.
Mark Harmon : What about Summer School with Kirsty Alley and The Presidio with Sean Connery .. is that not cinema ????
Those weren't David McCallum's parents that was his former best friend and co star Charles Bronson and his former Jill Ireland who was story stolen by Charles Bronson.
I saw Lo Ball or however ya spell it at Warped Tour in 2003 I think. They were a pretty good band.
Dark Angel was a great show! Jensen Ackles was also in it. I have the whole series
Micheal Weatherly is just human Nick Wilde 😂
Interesting points, just missing major cast members. What about Sasha Alexander, Cote de Pablo & Lauren Holly?
David McCallum's parents were not Charles Bronson and Jill Ireland.
Regret having the wrong parents pictures all the way to the bank. LOL
And, don't forget David McCallum in Kidnapped as Scottish hero an European production in 1978.
...Mark Harmon played (American) Football, not Soccer and the footage of him dancing with Tatiana Maskany is from the TV movie "Certain Prey"...
he is like tom cruise in another universe
Reply to gqjonny if your question is in regard to jimmy page and the violin bow,it was David mccallums father
First thing I saw Mark Harmon in was The Presidio with Sean Connery
Harmon went to four colleges and never graduated from either of them! Don't you mean any of them? You showed a photograph of Charles Bronson while saying it was David McCallum's parents. Harmon acted alongside Sean Connery in Presidio. It was an excellent action packed movie.
Mark Harmon did do a couple of movies. When was the miniseries for TV called The Green River. The other was to Seattle for the ladies summer school a cult classic how could you leave it out
Harmon was also in a series called 240 Robert...
Oh my god he was Binx from hocus pocus!!! I had no idea wow lol
You left out he was one a two part episode of Emergency He played a animal control officer who helped Ron and Johnny find a missing kid and his goat.
Roy...
Jethro's so charming
If you like rude, dismissive, irritable agents who shoot to kill, rather than to wound, I guess that character is for you. I always like it when the person he is interrogating refuses to be intimidated, and essentiallyl tells him to pound salt,
If people don't know what most of them did before the show, they couldn't have had a TV.
The character that David Macallum played was from the country of Georgia.
I don't think that Charles Bronson and Jill Ireland were really David McCallum's parents...do you?
jill was davids wife and charles stole her
David McCallum Sr. and Dorothy are his parents., not Charlie and Jill.
lavern007 However, he lived to tell and Bronson and Ireland didn’t
3:46 Its McDaniels, not McDonalds!
