- It may have been a while since Pauley Perrette (who played lab geek Abby Sciuto) left NCIS, but we’re still not over it! So just why did Pauley Perrette leave NCIS? Ahead of NCIS season 18, we’re looking back at Pauley’s time on the show, and the real reason she left Abby’s lab coat behind.
After years of being the glue that help the NCIS cast together, and under the mentorship of Gibbs, Abby became a fan favorite. But she didn’t only have drama with Mark Harmon - Pauley also had beef with Cote de Pablo. So, what was happening behind the scenes of the US Navy procedural?
Since leaving NCIS, the actress once again joined CBS for a new show called Broke, but it was cancelled after one season, so she’s officially entering retirement and saying goodbye to Hollywood!

Funny thing about their claims about Mark Harmon is that none of the other actors supported her... In a recent interview, Michael Weatherly said, when asked if he could choose only one person to help him, in a bad moment and he said "Mark Harmon". The others also always say Harmon is a great guy. Someone is lying, be it Harmon or Paulette.

It’s funny to hear that she didn’t want Harmon’s dog around the set. I just watched the NCIS episode called “Dog Tags” yesterday and Abby loved the dead marine’s dog even though it might have been involved in his murder.

She is an animal lover she just didn't get along with Marks dog that happens I was animal control for 3 years and got along with all but 2. and two I got along with were pit bulls from a fight case. and many of the dogs we picked up were pits, rots, shepherds. So She could easily get along with other dogs but just didn't jive with Marks. You see?
I loved her character but who cares why she left? If she wants to make claims then she needs to come out with it, instead of innuendo. It’s called ‘ put up or shut up’.
' strangely mark hasn't responded publicly about the claims' ..... why should he, she makes unfounded weak claims with no evidence or witness, or even backup from other cast members. Sounds more like they asked her to walk away seemingly of her own terms rather than publicly get canned so she attempted to discredit the show. Saying i'm quitting acting upon leaving is also a move someone trying to pull heart strings to get more undeserved credibility, then goes straight into new show thats 'great and best 30 mins of tv) ye nope not buying it. Abby may have been a good character but just because I liked the character does not mean im going to believe what the actress claims with no evidence presented.
I love Abby and Gibbs… for the longest time I thought mark harmony was in the wrong… I have kinda changed my mind about the whole thing… when you hear all the other actor’s talk about what a great guy mark Harmon is… well I get the feeling someone was else was exaggerating.. a lot…

I lost all respect for her when she started making claims and pointing fingers at Mark Harmon. The claims seem to come just before her new show was suppose to start, I don't think it ever did. It makes me wonder if this was a publicity stunt to get more views for her new show. I don't care if it was or not, she still threw Mark under a semi-truck. Just sad really.
I know the dog story is true, but Mark apologized and paid for the crew members medical bills.
No matter what happened mark is selfish and irresponsible for bringing a dangerous dog that traumatized the worker to the set when everyone was against it and u don’t even know him personally neither u know what happened so u protecting that powerful man is dangerous for women and ur woman urself which is even more sad

And Abby with mark together is my favorite characters together because there was this special bond but hey they are professional actor/actress. We don’t always know what happen offset.

Well, I'm guessing she had a contract she couldn't violate; however, I find the story a bit embellished and I don't believe any of the negative things about Mark Harmon.
Multiple reasons for her staying. Money, fame, other cast members she got along with. Pauley could have simply stayed that long because she really enjoyed portraying Abby.
There are some actors who make a show and others who think they do but the show gets along just fine without them. After 4 or 5 episodes I had completely adjusted to NCIS without Abby. Tony, Ziva and Ducky are more missed however Bishop and Torres have more than filled the bill. If Harmon went then so to would NCIS.
As for Perette's claims, I find it extraordinary that NOT ONE current or former cast member or producer or director has backed her claims.
I would miss Harmon, but honestly he's getting a bit old for the role he has in that team and as the other NCIS spin offs have shown, it can work with a new lead if they cast right. Gibbs could still do guest apperances like how Ducky shows up from time to time.
@Sparked Tiger Have you not bothered to watch the show in years? He's 87 years old, he retired two or three years ago and Jimmy took over the morgue.
The character is now officially the "NCIS archive historian" and technically has an office in the building where his character is allowed to come in on his own time and help with historical data tracking and record keeping. The actor however only makes a few guest appearances a year.
Gibbs will be gone next. He's 69 years old. A field officer in the NCIS in reality has a mandatory retirement age of 57 and anyone older would be on desk duty or management position. They've already lined up the storylines to show the strain on him and the characters been suspended from active duty while they decide what to do with him next after he broke a few laws and put his team at risk just to save a dog.
Gibbs as a character will likely retire next season while Mark Harmon will stay on as producer and just do an occasional guest appearance as a consultant or mentor.
The shows been on the air for two decades and both the characters and the actors are getting old.

As much as I love her, I had to look up a bunch of facts. I found nothing about her claims, even the people next to her said nothing about what she apparently claims.

I happen to know one of the actors in NCIS, and he says Harmon is a stand up guy, and doesn't believe anything this woman said. He does happen to be a joker, but thats just one of the things we already knew. Sounds to me this chick just wanted to jump on the me too movement since it was a Thing and she was just tired of working.

Actually, she doesn't seem much different than she was in high school. We were good friends in 9th grade. Things that happen in our lives shape us & how we respond to future events.
She was brave and willing to completely walk away from the industry because she no longer felt safe. Had nothing to do with a big head if she walked away from a character she enjoyed playing. People so quick to blame the victim because they love the charismatic nature of predators who attract bees with honey to drown them in vinegar. Tired of victims standing alone or with few while this sick world exalts predatory and violent men.

As an animal activist it breaks my heart when any animal has to be put down. Attacking and drawing blood of any human is just such a reason. Though I don't believe it's an animals fault just bad parenting. Why dogs have to suffer from bad human ownership will forever trouble me.
Regardless of the owner and their influence dogs that draw blood are a future risk even with extensive retraining. I'd prefer to put down the bad parent but then the capital punishment debate starts. Fear of any animal should never be felt by anyone and I'm sorry for those that feel it.

Because she whined about mark Harmon and didn’t get anywhere with her whine.
I liked Abby in the beginning. Her character flawless. However, as the years went by nothing really changed in character development . It was too stagnant. Plus, I think they could of updated her look over time. I love ponytails don’t get me wrong but her hair never changed. Ugh. I love the new character for the NCIS lab. She is so cute.

I don't know who in the world could survive the "Abby" role. I found it embarrassing. No one could be that stupid, acting, reacting. and ALWAYS somewhat devoid of understanding the everyday human. I don't think Pauley was well suited to the role of Abby, it would take a certain kind of person. Happily the role has been toned down, much more professional. Hope the series survives now that there's a new actor in the Abby role, and less of Ducky which was also tedious to watch. Still I love NCIS!

I do miss see her as Abby on NCIS, NCIS is one of my Favorite shows! Her personality is fun, always drinking caffpows and her excitement like when Gibs walks into the labs and Abby says "Gibs! Gibs! Gibs! I've got something!" all happy.
In season 18 after she left the episode involving pitbulls that lost in illegla dog fights being drown in sunken dog kennels and Gibs being fired, I knew Abby as a characer liked animals, and if she was there she'd want to bring the injuried pitbull the team found home. Gibs (the character) took the dog in though.
Paulette is my favorite character ever!! I am currently going through all the seasons of NCSI and really enjoying them especiallyher character!! I would love to meet her some day.🤗

it's amazing that when a staring roll comes up suddenly they are being assulted and attacked and they want out. her show she went to was terrible, i had high hopes for it. watched 3 or 4 episodes but couldn't get behind it.

Sorry, don't believe a word of her problem with Mark Harmon. After all no else appears to have anything bad to say about him. Maybe Miss Perrette could benefit from therapy as time has shown that she's had difficulty maintaining personal relationships. I do think she is a well-meaning lady and has helped many less fortunate than herself. I wish her the best.
I think something traumatic happened to her at some point in her life and she struggled every since.
With 15 seasons of reruns in syndication she should be able to retire in comfort.

I agree with you. It's a shame, too - you can't buy chemistry, and those two surely had it onscreen. I have voraciously scared up stories and interviews about the dog incident, and this video only gave part of the story. The guy who got bitten said he was rough-housing with the dog. Harmon enrolled him in obedience training and asked permission to bring him back to the set. After PP's multiple "attacked by yet another homeless guy" stories, I am dubious.
I loved her as a Abbey however she left and she needs to move on. Stop rehashing what happen on NCIS she’s burnt that bridge and I watched her comedy show when it was on and I couldn’t get past the second episode I knew it wasn’t going to make it just from the get go. I certainly hope her writing a book of her life isn’t completely surrounded by what occurred , in her opinion on NCIS. I haven’t read a word from anyone else on the show a writer a director, produce or anybody say anything about this dog incident. To be honest I’ve never seen a dog just run up and bite someone. Crewmember involve never has said a word about it so she needs to let it go and move on.

It came out that what really happened was a co-worker got bitten by Harmons dog and she was pissed he brought the dog in again. (Stupid of him yes but not SA or sex related crime)
Someone claims she was petitioning for the dog to be put down. Good show of reality there for ppl who assume a screen persona is the same as the persons real life persona.

I'm a huge NCIS fan. Looking back, Abby was more appealing as a character in season 1. She was tuff, wise, street smart, intelligent and nobodies fool. She could hold her own with anyone. But from season two and on until her departure, she was like a foolish immature, childish girl. The Goth-Vampire look should have been played down has Ms. Perrette started showing her age. That whole Goth thing wasn't working anymore. Frankly I'm glad she's gone. I wasn't a fan of Kasie Hines at first, but she seem to grow on me. I like that character much more than Abby.

One part drama llama, one part snowflake. Sounds like she was the problem and everyone else is being polite not throwing shade on her. Meanwhile she insinuates lots of things about other people but then won't give details to back it up.
This is how gaslighting starts, but instead of getting the controversy and attention she wants, everyone just kind of shrugged her off and got on with their lives without her.
Now she teases what few fans she has left, alternating between claiming to retire while still looking for work, but she can save face by claiming it's her choice when she doesn't get many role offers.

Small things derail great friendships Ziva and Abby were needed for show. Personal problems need to chill sometimes or take a break. Awkward demands are beginning if end. Wish it could have ended differently...

I liked her character Abby very much and I am glad to hear it inspired many young women to study science and maths. But be honest: Can she play the vivid teenager as a woman over her fifty’s? Acting childish round the „devine“ Mr. Gibbs? It was time to leave, the character doesn’t fit to her any more. Good bye, Abby. Pauley, you will find another interesting role non being cringey. You deserve something better.

I seen her in her new show. Ncis makes her look short :P I didn’t realise how tall she was :P
She's 5'10" and the only reason she looked short is that basically everyone else on the show was 6' or taller combined with they frequently tilted the camera in a way to highlight that slight change, along with the lab coats covering her waistline so your eyes don't have an easy point of reference for the midpoint. The few times you would see her in street clothes outside the lab were a bit more height-flattering when you had more normal visual reference points to compare against. I remember thinking she had to be pretty tall the few times they showed her with her car years ago.

Think about it. Although Abby was a great character. Only she was going around causing drama about other people. The person in question didn’t say anything disrespectful towards her. He was man enough to admit his mistake and dealt with it discreetly and apologize for it. Then moved on.

I think... it's really sad to me how seemingly no body has her back in her accusations against others / the dog incident if it was / is actually true. If she's lying though... ugh , I don't know who to believe or what to believe some times any more when ever I see tv / movie drama news and people accusing certain people of horrible things and behaviour....the world has enough negativity in it...I prefer happy news. I hope that if there are issues with her having gone mental or lying that she will either get the help she needs and grow up a bit , stop lying , and apologize to every one. If it is the opposite and everyone is against her for no good reason / a stupid reason then they are the ones who need to grow up a bit and apologize to her and her fans for such hurtful and unprofessional conduct and lying about her / not defending her or taking her side , ect.
I have never heard anyone say that the dog incident did not happen. I have heard that it was not the dog's fault because a member of the crew was playing with him too roughly and the dog was just defending itself. Either way, don't want to be around a dog that bites someone severely enough to need stitches.

At the very beginning of the show Abby's character was amazing, she was cute she was intriguing. But after season 2 she became annoying, she became nothing more than a mean girl a spoiled rotten brat, she was like the baby sister that is mean to everyone else around her except those she chooses to be sweet to. The problem with the character of Abby was that everyone else had a character that evolved, they grew they changed the evolved except for Abby. Abby's character in her late 40s showing wear and tear dressed and acted the exact same as when they appeared on JAG and she was an adorable, edgy forensic scientist flirting with tony. Along with that, the way she treats other women in particular just because she does not know them or just because she is jealous of them. She acts as if Gibbs belongs to her she gets upset when she is not the center of attention, and until you kiss her behind she makes your life miserable. It got so bad that when I watch episodes of NCIS and I watch them often I literally fast forward past the parts of Abby. I just cannot stand to watch her endless spoiled brat rambling.
I'm with you on that totally agree. I read her police report and oh man she has serious mental health issues.
I felt the same about this character. For a supposedly intelligent person, she did not grow up at all in her years on the show. I haven't seen the last 2 seasons but can only hope her replacement is more mature in her behaviour
The actor needed medical help, but what is on the screen are the writers and director shame on them IF she did not act the way they wanted, aka didn't happen, that is what they intended...

Agree - though of course that is the writer's failure, not the actor. They did a great job of letting the main male characters age gracefully over three decades. The Abby character worked as a twenty-something but was more than a little ridiculous as a fifty year old woman! It is odd because the writers could do older women very well for example Jenny Shepard and Jack Sloan, but they do not seem to be able to develop the characters over time. It is very noticeable that the turn-over of female lead characters was much more frequent than for male characters who often lasted decades.
She seems pretty immature in real life. Even the drama with her and her co stars seems pretty immature.
I am sad they never got along really crazy as they Gibbs and Abby were completely amazing. And though the show continued with each departure there are fans that leaves. Sure mayb it wasn't enuf for the show to be cancelled but it's sumn. I will never say sum one's claims are not valid look at Cosby that completely shocked me cuz I'm a Cosby fan I just hope ppl will get along cuz after all they are our entertainment.
NCIS was definitely my fav show I was sad after Kate and Jenny, devastated after Ziva and though the rest of the cast were a maze all especially Gibbs Ducky and Abby.... when there was no more Tony, NCIS LA became my main staple. Not sure who my hook is over there yet cuz I love everybody but it's probably Densi. When I realized Tiva was going no where Densi grabbed me so def them

There is a page on Twitter that talks about her & encourages people to actually research her & read court documents on Alot of accusations she's made .. I've read the documents & court transcripts & the only problematic one is her ...

Started watching NCIS because of Bishop. I continue to watch because of Bishop.
I've liked all the various cast since season 1, but what I like most is the show itself honestly is formatted in a way that anyone can be replaced over time and probably should be after a number of years since teams like that do not stay together forever, everyone gets shifted to other positions, promoted, etc. Even with Gibbs likely to be retiring soon I think they could keep the show going with a new team lead.
I miss her on NCIS.. I do hope she retires from retirement and finds her way back to NCIS someday.

Wow! She's in her 50's?! She looks half that age.
And behaves like she's 1/4 of that age.
True her character was awesome and amaseing and her leaveing messed up the show but she's still an amassing gal and many females are following the lead of the amassing criminalist and that's awesome but I do hope she finds her path and moves past her grief but if you have to go I wish her very well and want her to know she's loved by many of her fans
I'll take Hodges any day CSI Vegas and all the GUYS he has inspired...

Its' truly sad the way NCIS ended for you. You gave the program a warmth that you don't find to often on television. My family and I miss the older NCIS with you in it but such is life. I wish you success in whatever you do. Forever your fan...
