I absolutely adore Monkey Special. One of my personal favorites in my collection. But I like Deified more. To me, Deified is in the vein of Haltane, with apple and rose instead of praline and clean oud. The saffron comes across in a very similar way. I'm not saying they smell the same by any means, but they exist in a similar space. Deified come across more modern to me as well. And while both are beastly performers, Deified is nuclear. Two test sprays had my room filled with the scent for hours. I'm glad to have both, but come colder weather I am really looking forward to wearing Deified. So happy with this release!
I have decants of both and what’s funny to me, I love them both! Funny because in store I didn’t like either of them, but now I’m obsessed! Monkey special is definitely more sweet, definitely like a rum fruit cake boozy caramel vibe, Christmasy, and deified is more leather suede, sweet rose, more masculine but unisex wearable. ❤
I am looking forward to trying this new fragrance and definitely is easy to go bankrupt buying the colognes. Erica has great taste! Or I should say she has great sense of smell and a beautiful and great nose!❤❤❤
Spice, Wood, Chocolate = Tony Iommi. Surprised you said it’s not chocolatey when it is in fact very chocolatey in the base but hey everyone’s nose is different! Great video! 🙏🏾💙
I adore Monkey Special. It’s one of the very best in my collection. The brooding complexity and patchouli give it a perfect Black Sabbath style vibe. I was blown away by how it matches my impressions of the personality of Tony Iommi. Can’t wait to experience Deified. Thanks Erica for your thoughtful comparison of the two. I also feel badass when wearing Monkey Special. 🎸❤
I never understood the hype around Monkey Special. To me it's patchouli all the way, it is agressive and smells like my grandpa... I don't get the sweetness nor do I get any of the bergamot (which is one of my favorite notes).
okay erica! but theres more to this special story. it seems like tony iommi wanted to put the smell of leather into both of these fragrances because... well some extra relevant background for you: that for 1 of his 2 synthetic finger tips (they are different). for many years he works (perhaps still does) a patch of special thickness leather he cuts himself (from a special coat remains) and labours, massages with oils and so on. into the leather patch. and then glues it on to the base fingertip. to make it special, and to work better grip. like a false skin. so that he can actually play his guitar a lot better with! so this could very well be the reason for the inclusion of the leather. as being a very special meaningful thing for him to have in the fragrance. isn't that really something eh? sorry i just stumbled across here on youtube the video from his long time guitar tech, who sadly passed away recently. and tony of course really misses him. it is clear from the video because the care and attention he took over all these guitars stuff. so amazing to find this out. yet nobody else to share it with, except you erica! and that the 2nd fragrance is darker. than the 1st monkey one also if you happened to see the music video released today? to go with the deified 2nd fragrance? well... another thing to observe here is that there is a boy featured in the music video, and this is a homage to a similar boy character that features in the music video of "alice in chains - a looking in view". and erica, i figured that one out also while watching your livestream this evening! ok so heres the main challenge / question then: how can we get this into wikipedia !!?!!?? to remember these beautiful things by them. because we can see in his interview... that tony isnt wanting to make so much out of it. but i think its fantastic! to help remember these people by. and it makes something (the fragrance) so much more special for people to be able to hear a bit more about it. it would be so nice for all of those heavy metal fans 🖤 thanks so much again erica for reviewing these, and taking up an interest. (even though i am not a fragrances fan). its been wonderful finding out about all this! coming at it from the music side of things. my best wishes & have a nice day
She cappin'. I have 15 different frangence of xerjoff.. tony iommi defied is my least favorite. I love the opening of Defied, but when the fragrance settles, you smell sandlewood and musk. Defied won't give you an affluent, luxurious, or exclusive vibe typeish scent; it actually reminds me of the fragrance oils you get from the neighborhood flea market or the warm musk frangence oil that Muslims men often wears.
If everyone liked the exact same scents...there would be literally one fragrance we would all wear. It's called an opinion, which can be different from yours.
@lafayettewatts7805 It's hard for me to pinpoint my favorite fragrance, with so many and as some scents tend to resonate me more in different seasons of my life However, I am drawn to fragrances that are sexy but elegance of a leader or leadership , and complex, yet exude an air of sophistication and opulence and purposes.
I am not going blonde 😅 I went to a newer hairdresser looking for hair models to lighten my hair close to my natural color so I never have to lighten it again or dye it darker, therefore, saving a lot of money 💴
I love Deified so much! You become a rock star wearing it. Concerts, dark coffee houses, it's just a banger.
