    First reasonable video about fuchsias, I've purchased 6 of the hardy varieties and planted in the garden where they have morning sun till noon or 1-2 pm, yet in every video they say you need to get them to your garage over winter. I'm in UK winters rarely go near 0'C. I'm glad I don't need to dig them all out!

    Nicely Done!
    We inherited an F. magellanica type that my grandmother had planted. We have been here 40 yrs now. It has been frozen to the ground, it has been trampled when the house has been painted and who knows what all else. A humble shrub when we moved in, it is now about 12 ft long by 4ft Wide. It is on a NE facing wall. It has provided us hours of Hummingbird watching!

    These are some of my favorite flowering shrubs! Every time I look at them they remind me of an Alice in Wonderland garden (along with columbine wild flowers and orchids). There is something so magical and enticing about these flowers. I’m definitely planting more this year as I currently only have one.

    Thanks Debbie, from NE France! Not quite Washington weather, but we do have a few hardy fuchsias. I particularly like "Lady Bacon", a cutting of which I surreptitiously took when visiting a garden in Southern England. (The best time to do this? - it's when the gardener's not looking!) Happy gardening!

    Thank you for such helpful fuschia advice. I adore them and buy annual fuschias each year. I've just bought my first hardy to try in a patio pot (deltas Sarah) very pretty. Will try and garage my annuals over next winter and see how they fare 🤗

    Loved all the info on the different varieties. Can you provide some additional info on the pruning of these hardy varieties. I have one that’s 15 years old and is very lanky and woody and only blooming at the edges. I have miraculously snapped off some fresh branches and shoved in the dirt which have survived and grown. But I don’t know how to keep this plant dense and green. Any suggestions would be welcomed. Have a great day.

    Thank you ,very interesting and informative. I live in South Africa , and sometimes battle to keep my fuchsias away from the heat in summer. Even in the shade it can reach 30c In winter they don't always die back completely. However the effort is worth it .

    Always love your videos. Thanks for all the info on the varieties. Question -- when you put a fuschia basket in the garage like you suggested, do they need any light? My garage is completely dark. And when do you move them inside? Thanks!!

    • @GardenStylenw
      @GardenStylenw  6 років тому +4

      Elizabeth Myers Yes you can have them in the dark as they go dormant anyway. Move them in when temps get below 40 degrees. :)

      I read that if you plant them deep, really deep like the crowns 4 to 6 inches below surface you can grow them a zone or two lower. They are like tomatoes, when you plant them deep they root off their stems!

    My hardy fuschias have not bloomed this year. They have grown well and are leafy, but only about half a dozen blooms. They have good sun until mid afternoon. They bloomed well last year. Why?

    • @GardenStylenw
      @GardenStylenw  6 років тому

      Melody Schleicher Have you fed them?

    • @melodyschleicher81
      @melodyschleicher81 6 років тому +2

      Garden Style Yes, they were fed with chicken pellets and had compost added as well. Everything around them has bloomed well, except the fuschias. I am really puzzled. They were also rather late sending up new growth in the Spring, which was extremely short this year. In England we virtually went straight into an unusually hot Summer.

    • @Razmatazuk
      @Razmatazuk 6 років тому +1

      My hardy fuschias were the same this year, maybe a handful of flowers. I'm also in England.

    • @melodyschleicher81
      @melodyschleicher81 6 років тому

      Razmatazuk I am seeing a few more blooms now that the weather has cooled down. Perhaps it was just too hot for them this year?

    • @GardenStylenw
      @GardenStylenw  6 років тому +3

      Heat will definitely affect them. However pinching the tips will encourage them to produce more as well.
