I honestly think Halloween Kills is one of my more favorite Halloween movies, although it's probably more of a guilty pleasure. There are LOTS of problems script wise, but I think some of the moments in the movie in terms of acting are pretty golden. And this is imo the best Micheal Myers we have ever seen, and with a kick ass mask to go along with it!
Yeah in the middle it gets a little weak but the opening and end i have no complaints about. It goes for brutality over suspense which I like since it makes sense. I think some of the hate from fans might stem from that fact.

That’s become a pretty popular observation of this movie in recent years, at least in regards to the bandages. I happen to agree on that part, largely because of how badly they botched the mask they went with. Not to mention, with how safe Halloween 4 plays things, it would have been pretty bold for the time to bring back the iconic villain that the series was famous for, without the visage that makes him iconic. Surely, people wouldn’t have appreciated it at the time, but whatever.
The 2018 mask is awesome and amplified by the awesome portrayal by James Jude Courtney. He kills it as Michael and closest to the original. I really think that his acting has a lot to do with how awesome that mask is.

Zombie’s “Shape” is just underrated, in my opinion. Regardless of what anyone thinks of those movies, Tyler Mane as Michael, in _that_ mask, is genuinely really menacing and intimidating.

I agree, the bandaged-face look in Halloween 4 has really grown on me. If he'd spent like half the movie wearing it, then we get a scene of him donning the classic white-face mask again, that would have been so cool.
Fun fact: the H5 mask was actually a mold of Special effects artist Greg Nicataro. Most famous for K&B effects and TWD. So thats why the mask looks the way it does.

Can't forget the role of the cinematographer in lighting all these masks, as well as the editing and scene blocking so that it's always seen from the best angle. That's why the reboot trilogy mask and the original look so good. They lit, shot and edited them appropriately to keep the eyes hidden or in shadow at almost all times in a natural looking way. A good looking horror movie mask requires a team effort, research and development, and trial and error to pull off correctly. But most of all it requires the people in charge of the movie to give a damn about their art and not just racing to get the cameras rolling to churn out a piece of crap product to cash in on an established horror IP.
I think the HKills mask is my favourite because i loved the 2018 mask but I like the new one a bit better because of how the burns and the bullet hole show what Micheal has endured since the 2018 movie, just as the 2018 mask shows how it and Micheal have both aged since the 1978 movie. Awesome video btw 🎃
I'm ranking the Shatner-style masks only, and I will sort them differently than you did. 1. The 1978 mask (Halloween, Halloween II, Halloween Kills flashbacks). While the mask does look a little different in the first sequel due to aging, and though the mask in the flashbacks of the newest film is a replica and not the original prop, these three versions are similar enough that I will treat them as one entity. It's the standard look by which all of the others are judged, so it's inevitably the top spot. 2. The Halloween Kills mask. While the design in the 2018 film felt like little more than a revised version of the 2007 mask, this one has more personality to it. I prefer a pristine mask in most cases, but it if has to be damaged, this is the way to do it. (An honorable mention also goes to the burned version of the Resurrection mask, but it never had a chance to feature in an entire scene, let alone an entire film.) 3. The Halloween Resurrection mask. Of all the attempts to make a genericized version of the Don Post Captain Kirk mask, this one was the most successful. It's clearly recognizable as Michael Myers, and it is perfectly unremarkable. That might not sound like a compliment, but the point is that it doesn't draw attention to itself. With all of the other sequel masks, I find myself taken out of the film a bit. 4. The Halloween 2018 mask (pre-burning). The sculpt is the best one ever made for a Halloween sequel, which is why I've ranked its clean version alongside the mask from the first two films. But the artificial aging makes the Shape's face look too busy. And then there's the fact that Rob Zombie had already gone in this direction two films earlier. The whole concept of the mask feels derivative as a result. 5. The Stan Winston H20 mask. This mask suffers more from the cinematography than it does from the sculpt, since it's almost always overlit. The features on the face are just about perfect, even if the eyeholes could stand to be slightly smaller. As with the Halloween 6 mask, the hair is teased out too much, but when it sits flat, it looks quite good. It's a solid mask let down by the filmmakers. 6. The 2007 mask. Again, I'm not a fan of the aged latex look for Michael Myers, but this mask gets credit for doing it first. As I said with the 2018 mask, I find the look too busy. I haven't ranked the clean version of the mask separately, but I might be inclined to put it between the Halloween Kills mask and the Resurrection mask. Then again, it looked silly on the head of a child, so that knocks it down a bit. 7. The Halloween 6 mask. Unlike the Halloween 5 mask, this one at least looks more or less like Michael Myers. And if its H20 variant were used throughout that film, I might have ranked it higher, as I think it looks better on Chris Durand than on George Wilbur. However, there's something about the texture of the mask that doesn't quite do it for me, and I don't care for the nose on it, either. Yeah, it's nitpicky. 8. The 2009 mask. For what the film was doing, it was fine. In fact, I was tempted to rank it above the 2007 mask for the same reason that I ranked the Halloween Kills mask over the 2018 mask: it has more personality to it, which makes the decision to depart from a clean look more justifiable. However, it's too far removed from the 1978 mask at this point, and I don't really see the Shape when I look at it. 9. The Halloween 4 mask. This one might be the greatest tragedy in the series. Unlike every mask after it, it's a genuine Don Post mask, so it should be up near the top of this list. However, the conversion job was done so poorly that it loses all of its defining features and ends up looking more like Commander Data than Captain Kirk. Even the unconverted pink-faced mask looks better than the finished one! 10. The Halloween 5 mask. The first of KNB's two Michael Myers masks establishes why they should've never been brought back for H20. This thing looks like it was made for a movie that was trying to imitate Halloween while staying legally distinct enough to avoid a lawsuit. The hairline is all wrong, the face is completely off, and the neck is far too big. But it might make for a good Brion James mask... 11. The KNB H20 mask. This is the mask that's so bad that it required the filmmakers to do reshoots. This is the mask that's so bad that it required a hastily-made CG replacement for a closeup shot. This the mask that's so bad that it acts as a constant distraction in the second act of a film that is otherwise the best Halloween sequel. This one mask nearly prevented Michael's comeback in 1998.
The story of the Pink mask is basically that they ordered a bunch of masks to paint white and darken the hair etc.. but they only did it with one and they briefly Lost it. When they found it, they had already done a couple of shots with the Pink mask. And the CGI one, apparently they used the wrong mask in the scene so instead of reshooting it or even Just leaving it as is, they put CGI over it.

Actually smoke rises and and nick castle kept it on top of a fire place and that’s what caused the mask to look that way. The best way to store laytex masks is actually in a box under a bed and out of the light.

One reason why 2007 is my favourite, apart from how it looks is ya see the mask from different angles and it looks like the mask changes expressions.

The blonde hair mask was hilarious, hadn't watched these movies since i was a kid and i was doing a marathon of the franchise last october, i had completely forgotten about it and was actually questioning for a moment if there wasn't some kind of weird impostor/"two Michaels!" twist coming that i didn't remember, because it's such an obvious mistake it's hard to believe no one in the production noticed it.

I had no idea until I joined the horror community that the H20 mask was CGI in that scene. I also know that the scene where he gets kicked in the no no space...that eye bulge...that got the biggest laugh in the theater. I think if I were going to have a top 5 its going to be 1. 2018 and honestly its because they paid SO much attention to detail for this mask to look the same as 78 and yet aged 40 years. That scene you mentioned when be closed the trunk...its one of the most recognizable scenes in the franchise now. 2. 1978 because you have to respect what started it all. It's a great mask. 3. I like Kills mask. For the faults this movie has, what this team has NOT held back on was the history of this franchise and its attention to detail to make him scary and the burnt mask does it. 4. Curse. Its a frightening mask for a brutal Myers in a problem riddled film. I hate that this mask wasn't in part 4. 5. Zombie's remake 2007. Because he did take the chance to make it dirty and in my opinion a clean mask wouldn't have worked for this film. It fits the tone. As for that Halloween 4 mask. Im not sure what bothers me more...the mask or the Elvis collar and I cant decide if the Elvis collar isn't why the mask looks so damn bad. Also shame on them for not caring about their movie enough NOT to see that other mask was pink as hell!

1. H'78 Mask - If uncanny valley could be summed up in a mask, it'd be this one. Blank & emotionless without being too bland & emotionless ( *cough* H4 *cough*). It represents him as a character perfectly. He resembles something recognizable, but he's off just enough that you know to be scared of him . That's the mask in a nutshell. One of the coolest masks in any film. 2. H6 Mask - Scary. Like a slightly disorted but equally intimating version of the '78 mask. The features are more angular than the original mask which gives it a meaner appearance. The eyes are a really important detail in the masks and they really got them right here. They used a thinner, more streamlined version of the H6 mask for H20 & I'd rank it the same. 3. Halloween Kills Mask - Normally I prefer cleaner masks to battle damaged ones, but the H'18 is designed to be grungy as it is. This design just takes that extra step forward. It feels less non-commital than the H'18 one. Almost like it was always meant to look this way & it just needed the last film to get it there. Doesn't hurt that they lit it better this time around, as well. 4. H4 Mummy Myers Mask - The guaze serves a narrative purpose, is a new way of doing the "blank pale emotionless" thing without having to rely on some cheap knock-off mask (like the one they used for the rest of the film) & it invokes the classic Universal monster, albeit unintentionally. 5. RZH Jack O'Lantern Paper Mache Mask - Simple, chilling, & invokes the Halloween season. What more could you need?
I actually do like the Halloween 4 mask to me it has always been my favorite, it gives an unsettling vibe since it looks so blank and perfect in that one frame with the bed plus I like the slicked back hair it just looks good to me
Best mask hands down was the rob zombie Halloween mask. This mask really did it for me when the movie first came out. I was 16 years old when the movie came out and I always thought the other movies were corny because of the acting. But when this movie came out, I was literally too scared to go out and get a glass of water at my house haha! I thought the mask was menacing and just overall gave me a big spook.

My personal favourite is either the Original 1978 mask or the updated 2018 version, the burnt variant is Halloween Kills would probably be third.

It's the standard look by which all of the others are judged, so it's inevitably the top spot.
2. The Halloween Kills mask. While the design in the 2018 film felt like little more than a revised version of the 2007 mask, this one has more personality to it. I prefer a pristine mask in most cases, but it if has to be damaged, this is the way to do it. (An honorable mention also goes to the burned version of the Resurrection mask, but it never had a chance to feature in an entire scene, let alone an entire film.)
3. The Halloween Resurrection mask. Of all the attempts to make a genericized version of the Don Post Captain Kirk mask, this one was the most successful. It's clearly recognizable as Michael Myers, and it is perfectly unremarkable. That might not sound like a compliment, but the point is that it doesn't draw attention to itself. With all of the other sequel masks, I find myself taken out of the film a bit.
4. The Halloween 2018 mask (pre-burning). The sculpt is the best one ever made for a Halloween sequel, which is why I've ranked its clean version alongside the mask from the first two films. But the artificial aging makes the Shape's face look too busy. And then there's the fact that Rob Zombie had already gone in this direction two films earlier. The whole concept of the mask feels derivative as a result.
5. The Stan Winston H20 mask. This mask suffers more from the cinematography than it does from the sculpt, since it's almost always overlit. The features on the face are just about perfect, even if the eyeholes could stand to be slightly smaller. As with the Halloween 6 mask, the hair is teased out too much, but when it sits flat, it looks quite good. It's a solid mask let down by the filmmakers.
6. The 2007 mask. Again, I'm not a fan of the aged latex look for Michael Myers, but this mask gets credit for doing it first. As I said with the 2018 mask, I find the look too busy. I haven't ranked the clean version of the mask separately, but I might be inclined to put it between the Halloween Kills mask and the Resurrection mask. Then again, it looked silly on the head of a child, so that knocks it down a bit.
7. The Halloween 6 mask. Unlike the Halloween 5 mask, this one at least looks more or less like Michael Myers. And if its H20 variant were used throughout that film, I might have ranked it higher, as I think it looks better on Chris Durand than on George Wilbur. However, there's something about the texture of the mask that doesn't quite do it for me, and I don't care for the nose on it, either. Yeah, it's nitpicky.
8. The 2009 mask. For what the film was doing, it was fine. In fact, I was tempted to rank it above the 2007 mask for the same reason that I ranked the Halloween Kills mask over the 2018 mask: it has more personality to it, which makes the decision to depart from a clean look more justifiable. However, it's too far removed from the 1978 mask at this point, and I don't really see the Shape when I look at it.
9. The Halloween 4 mask. This one might be the greatest tragedy in the series. Unlike every mask after it, it's a genuine Don Post mask, so it should be up near the top of this list. However, the conversion job was done so poorly that it loses all of its defining features and ends up looking more like Commander Data than Captain Kirk. Even the unconverted pink-faced mask looks better than the finished one!
10. The Halloween 5 mask. The first of KNB's two Michael Myers masks establishes why they should've never been brought back for H20. This thing looks like it was made for a movie that was trying to imitate Halloween while staying legally distinct enough to avoid a lawsuit. The hairline is all wrong, the face is completely off, and the neck is far too big. But it might make for a good Brion James mask...
11. The KNB H20 mask. This is the mask that's so bad that it required the filmmakers to do reshoots. This is the mask that's so bad that it required a hastily-made CG replacement for a closeup shot. This the mask that's so bad that it acts as a constant distraction in the second act of a film that is otherwise the best Halloween sequel. This one mask nearly prevented Michael's comeback in 1998.

The story of the Pink mask is basically that they ordered a bunch of masks to paint white and darken the hair etc.. but they only did it with one and they briefly Lost it. When they found it, they had already done a couple of shots with the Pink mask.
And the CGI one, apparently they used the wrong mask in the scene so instead of reshooting it or even Just leaving it as is, they put CGI over it.

Actually smoke rises and and nick castle kept it on top of a fire place and that’s what caused the mask to look that way. The best way to store laytex masks is actually in a box under a bed and out of the light.

Don't know why, but I like the mask when it's dirtier. There's more of a story to it, explaining my top 3. One reason why 2007 is my favourite, apart from how it looks is ya see the mask from different angles and it looks like the mask changes expressions.

The blonde hair mask was hilarious, hadn't watched these movies since i was a kid and i was doing a marathon of the franchise last october, i had completely forgotten about it and was actually questioning for a moment if there wasn't some kind of weird impostor/"two Michaels!" twist coming that i didn't remember, because it's such an obvious mistake it's hard to believe no one in the production noticed it.

I had no idea until I joined the horror community that the H20 mask was CGI in that scene. I also know that the scene where he gets kicked in the no no space...that eye bulge...that got the biggest laugh in the theater.
I think if I were going to have a top 5 its going to be
1. 2018 and honestly its because they paid SO much attention to detail for this mask to look the same as 78 and yet aged 40 years. That scene you mentioned when be closed the trunk...its one of the most recognizable scenes in the franchise now.
2. 1978 because you have to respect what started it all. It's a great mask.
3. I like Kills mask. For the faults this movie has, what this team has NOT held back on was the history of this franchise and its attention to detail to make him scary and the burnt mask does it.
4. Curse. Its a frightening mask for a brutal Myers in a problem riddled film. I hate that this mask wasn't in part 4.
5. Zombie's remake 2007. Because he did take the chance to make it dirty and in my opinion a clean mask wouldn't have worked for this film. It fits the tone.
As for that Halloween 4 mask. Im not sure what bothers me more...the mask or the Elvis collar and I cant decide if the Elvis collar isn't why the mask looks so damn bad. Also shame on them for not caring about their movie enough NOT to see that other mask was pink as hell!

That H4 mask scares me til this day! I agree with u only except its pretty damn scary!
1. H'78 Mask - If uncanny valley could be summed up in a mask, it'd be this one. Blank & emotionless without being too bland & emotionless ( *cough* H4 *cough*). It represents him as a character perfectly. He resembles something recognizable, but he's off just enough that you know to be scared of him . That's the mask in a nutshell. One of the coolest masks in any film.
2. H6 Mask - Scary. Like a slightly disorted but equally intimating version of the '78 mask. The features are more angular than the original mask which gives it a meaner appearance. The eyes are a really important detail in the masks and they really got them right here. They used a thinner, more streamlined version of the H6 mask for H20 & I'd rank it the same.
3. Halloween Kills Mask - Normally I prefer cleaner masks to battle damaged ones, but the H'18 is designed to be grungy as it is. This design just takes that extra step forward. It feels less non-commital than the H'18 one. Almost like it was always meant to look this way & it just needed the last film to get it there. Doesn't hurt that they lit it better this time around, as well.
4. H4 Mummy Myers Mask - The guaze serves a narrative purpose, is a new way of doing the "blank pale emotionless" thing without having to rely on some cheap knock-off mask (like the one they used for the rest of the film) & it invokes the classic Universal monster, albeit unintentionally.
5. RZH Jack O'Lantern Paper Mache Mask - Simple, chilling, & invokes the Halloween season. What more could you need?
The mask from the first Rob Zombie film is definitely the scariest.

Best mask hands down was the rob zombie Halloween mask. This mask really did it for me when the movie first came out. I was 16 years old when the movie came out and I always thought the other movies were corny because of the acting. But when this movie came out, I was literally too scared to go out and get a glass of water at my house haha! I thought the mask was menacing and just overall gave me a big spook.
