I can't lie, it's super refreshing to see people actually start to appreciate iX2. I personally think GV2 and iX2 are tied for the best GV game, and seeing people actually respect iX2 is fucking amazing.

Yep, it's got more similarities to the Mega Man X games than it doesn't, right down to the lack of story. It's tough as nails and gots some good mechanics, great ost. It gots almost everything I want in an action platformer. The haters mostly critique the lack of story, but not all games need good story, some just need to be fun to play.

I love iX 2, I'm sad to hear its so divisive but I hope the series continues in this direction gameplaywise. I would have loved to play as the creator and mother duo, too bad it wasnt meant to be.

Interesting review, honestly I didn't like this game the first playthrough but over time i've come to appreciate it. I still much rather prefer copen's very fast paced playstyle he had in GV2, but like I said before I still think how they changed his playstyle in this game is fine. My only real complaints about the game in general is the change of Copen's playstyle (which is fine, I just prefer how he was in GV2) and also I feel like the ex weapons in this game are less fun then in IX1 and GV2, but those two are just personal opinions of mine. Overall the presentation and level design really stick out to me in this game. All in all a good game, but just took me awhile to get used to it.

FINALLY! Ix2 deserves more love man, it's got the best gameplay in the series, it's very clean and intuitive and bosses are amazing. Story is not complex but it's simple and easy to follow. I loved the game so much I beat hard mode without assist. I also really like the stages in this game, the nerfed copen move set helps give each stage part of the spotlight.

finally got around to playing this game lmao (technically still have some achievements to get but I’ve played the main story and I’m on the final boss of hard mode now).
I was really interested in seeing what you had to say about this one, especially because I personally ended up being really disappointed by it. it’s easily my least favorite entry in the series so far. they changed the things I really loved about clown’s gameplay in the previous games, which was going fast and combining enemies. the removal of the bullits system felt like a slap in the face in that regard. I was not a fan of the razor wheel either, although I can appreciate the environmental gimmicks they designed around it. you pointed out some good merits to these changes in the video though and I totally get why you like them. it just really wasn’t for me.
hard mode went a pretty long way in making the game more fun though, and I love that they added that in. although I think it totally shoots itself in the foot with the inclusion of a lives system, which makes it just as annoying as it is fun.
I absolutely agree about the story too, I could not care less about anything going on lmao. I’m not sure why they decided to make these games in this alternate timeline and then not really do anything with it, especially in this one which has nothing to do with it whatsoever.
great review as always! I love seeing people’s different points of view on games. looking forward to watching more!

    Spoilers:
The theme of the 2nd phase of Mother is actually a remix of Igniter, Lola's Anthem in GV2 and IX1(It was replaced by Purification in IX2).

And finally it is here! I was really curious to see your take on this game as I honestly did not agree in the slightest with calling it a perfect gv game. However, I have seen the video in its entirety now and can see why you like it as much as you do. I want to start off by saying that iX2 is a good game, I do not agree with people saying otherwise, however it deviated so much from what made Copens gameplay and mastery so fun and instead went for a slower approach somewhat akin to the ps1 mega man x games. That really does seem to split the take for a lot of people, as a lot came in for the fast paced tagging and zapping and dashing and soaring thrill of gameplay. And that just was not done here. Making the razor wheel faster like you said would have actually made the game mkre enjoyable than first thought, and the bosses in this game are really darn good! The visuals are the best yet, and the now animated skill cutins are amazing. The ost seems to be mutually agreed upon to be really good, but by series standards its the weakest in the series for me. The final boss actually is a remix of igniter which is the reincarnation theme for copen in iX and gv2. But I do see the comparison to his world lol, maybe thats why I like the song so much. Storywise, its one of the weaker games and like you said, lacks proper isekai elements. But I did like Lola's dynamic in this game along with Mother. Its definitely a story, but until inti creates follows up on what is set up, I can not really know if it is a good one. All and all, this game really just felt like a filler arc in an anime, good filler but filler all the same. And when every other gunvolt game aspires to innovate, the game falls short in many aspects. But, maybe us long time gv fans have our expectations too high, this is no sonic 06 or mega man x6 like some people treat it as. Enjoyed the review! Keep it up!

There's definitely something satisfying about how fast Copen handled in the previous games, I think GV2/iX1 and iX2's approaches to the gameplay are skill based in their own ways, iX2 a bit more so, in my opinion. I think a blend of iX1 and iX2's mechanics would be a match made in heaven. Thanks for leaving such detailed comments!

I liked iX 2 on Normal mode but, hated it on Hard Mode. Slower movement of Copen fit well with the new levels. Though I do feel like having extra bullet dashes in Overdrive mode as a DLC ability is weird as a result. The Razor Wheel combo was too slow and left Copen too vulnerable for my liking. The Lock- On having the Razor Wheel shoot projectiles made the melee combo feel pointless. I really liked the new EX Weapons (especially seeing how people used Whirling Chopper to dodge boss attacks). I didn't care for the story in iX 2 and felt like the Bad Ending was the most interesting part. I also know that the final boss has many call backs and references to the Gunvolt series but, I've only played the Luminous Avenger iX games. So the call backs were lost on me, same thing also happened with the first iX.
My gripes with Hard Mode is that it felt too limiting in what Copen had. Removing all your abilities, adding a life counter and even removing the Healing ability the social media account kept trying to emphasize. I did like that bosses have new attack patterns and weaknesses in Hard Mode. But having such a small life bar meant very little room for mistakes. All for a True Ending that wasn't worth it. I played the game at launch so the Assist Mode wasn't an option and kinda feels like a band-aid solution. It didn't help that reviews I saw at the time never mentioned Hard Mode or that story was locked behind it. It felt like a jerk move to have a fun Normal Mode and then have all bad stuff locked behind grabbing all the emblems & Hard Mode for the True Ending. Also I'm bitter over beating Hail and Brigade but, their attacks still lingered onscreen, killing Copen which means the victory didn't count T_T.
I love how depending on your text & voice settings the bosses have different skill names and they recorded both sets of VA saying them. So having English Voices & Japanese text means hearing the English VA say the Japanese attack name and vice versa. It is such a cool thing to add.

I wish the Azure Striker games had a hard modes. But this game's hard mode is downright masochistic. I beat it though, but I had horrible anxiety the entire time when I'd get the boss's health low.

I honestly thought Hard Mode was the highlight of ix 2. In a series where just beating the game has always been a cakewalk and the challenge purely comes from going for high scores, it was nice to finally have a game where simply just beating the game was a legitimate challenge.

    • @fwobebe5164

@TitanicTitan26 In hindsight, I feel that a good hard mode is the best way for me to immerse myself into the game. The music, the artwork, it sticks in my mind better and stays with me long after the game is over. This was way harder than beating any Megaman X game, even without grabbing any armor upgrades.
I sorta wished Ix would still be able to buy some small upgrades from the store though. More lives, a tinsy bit more health, even if was crazy expensive. I wished they had something to ease the difficulty without turning on Assist Mode. That's defeating the challenge.

I'm glad you had a great time with iX2, but man it just doesn't compare to the first game for me. That triple bullet dash, feeling like Superman flying through a level feeling not being there from the jump just feels bad. Gimme triple bullet dash all day long, I don't care if it breaks levels! *Let* me break levels! Breaking stuff is fun!

I personally dont like Score attack with Ix2 and im mixed on the game in general. Just not a fan of how Copens non Overdrive controls (The flight mode) work. Now granted I do like the ideas in this game. I love the idea of how the Overdrive mode makes you not want to spam healing. With Hard Mode my feelings on the game is still mixed. With how hard the bosses are and the fact that you can only heal in checkpoints makes learning the bosses a pain. On the other hand I find the hard mode bosses for the most part to be the best bosses. Since hard mode makes Kudos fearless by default for the most part I just dont bother with trying to get to Overdrive and fight the bosses with just bare neutered Copen. One tweak to it I would like to have in hard mode is keep the score system the same but nerf Healing (maybe a 1 time use and it doesnt completely heal you would be fine) . I think I would be more into hard mode if Inti Creates did that because I love the fact that healing essentially nerfs you and puts you more in danger. One other minor thing is maybe have the saw attack and the traditional Copen gun separate buttons cause that would downright make the combat soooooo much better.

Duuuude... hot freakin' take with ix2 bein' a perfect Gunvolt game. The gameplay was shite in my honest opinion and maybe I'm just bad or don't get the gameplay but... wow what were they thinking? Still have fun with it but true ending behind hard mode?????? That just KILLS it for me. Yes, its been updated with an easy-hard mode but frak me that just proves they realized how toxic that was.
Dude honestly if you could explain to me somehow how this game works I would appreciate it cuz I just... I don't get it lol

Hard mode with no assist is definitely the hardest game i ever beat. And thats comparing them to the hard modes of Megaman Zero/ZX
Every boss in this game took me hours to beat. I love it though. ^^

Can't agree with it being perfect, but comes pretty damn close. Imo the gameplay changes made to Copen are a downgrade from ix1, but the levels and bosses are so perfectly designed around the new moveset that it's hard to even complain about it. Probably the overall highest quality and most consistent levels and boss fights in the whole series.

I can't appreciate this game with one bullit dash. Like you said, one misstep kills your momentum. Stuff like that is the absolute worst thing for me in ganes, where the rush is cut off by very little mistakes.
I already felt i had to be careful with bullits, even with upgrades. It was a "more score, or more safety" desicion. It was amazing on fearless, so i just cant like it in this game.

  • @grayrodent8232
    @grayrodent8232 Місяць тому +1

I respect your opinion, but in good conscience I need to disagree. Be it the sub weapons or Copen's new, more grounded gameplay feels at odds with itself.
I think it's the worst game in the franchise, but not because anything they did was inherently broken, but rather cause the stages themselves don't feel designed around either precision platforming like Megaman X or rushdown platforming like most of GV2 and iX.
You constantly have to stop in your tracks to make proper use of the sluggish buzzsaw, crashing onto enemies rarely outweighs just being able to tag them and when you see speedrunners awkwardly bumping enemies onto one another to finish them off in one hit, which sounds pretty cool except for the fact that, like I said, the process is awkward and somewhat lengthy for a small kudos boost.
And more often than not bumping them locks YOU into the recovery animation which again is more of an annoying liability.
And worst of all, this is no mistake from the developers. This is made to balance the fact that now once you enter awakening mode the gameplay is trivialized, the stages need to be open to account for awakening, but that makes it so that traversing them WITHOUT awakening becomes a drag.
It should have been customizable, special modules that allow you to either tune Copen to work as he does in LAiX or the more grounded version with new melee skills and movement options, make the dash a buzzsaw rush that kills enemies in one hit with a bonus like how it was in the ZX games.
Copen as it is in iX2 feels like a revolting mish mash of gameplay cores that don't really try to coexist. Armor Copen is at best a barrier between the player and Awakening mode.
As for the healing and the Kudos system, Gunvolt has always been like this. The healing skills exist to help struggling players to finish the game, but be entirely non-existent for score-attack players who realistically will not be getting hit, it was never unbalanced, the Gunvolt games are made to be easy as pie unless you are farming scores. The player chooses their own handicaps, which was reinforced by the lockets and coroutines that disable checkpoints among other things.
Which brings me to the fact that the game's true ending is locked behind an obnoxious hard mode that brings an objectively offensive feature such as limited lives and removes what very little agency the player has to tune their experience, locking away your customization options. If the game didn't openly hate your guts before, it does now.
I really hope we get an iX3 and that Inti won't try to course correct by erasing everything from iX2, cause there are some really cool concepts here, but they need some serious tweaking to be properly enjoyed.
All my criticisms come from a place of love, for both the characters and the franchise, and this is literally the only game in the series I can't bring myself to replay for a third or fourth time. Many others won't even finish the first run of it.
But since I dont want to end this on a low, I want to agree with you on one thing.
In my humble opinion, even accounting for GV3, this game has hands down the best visuals, theming and tracks the series has to offer. I have zero complaints on that front (except for those derpy robot titties, you know the ones. I'm no prude, but there is such a thing as too much and she fits the bill). Even on the worst times I've spent in it I was absolutely stunned with the graphics, a wonderful audiovisual experience, and I really hope we can keep the upward trend on this cause the GV franchise seems to just get better and better on that department with each installment.

I absolutely and utterly disagree, ix 2 is a great platformer, but is not close to being the best in terms of gunvolt gameplay, if anything, the best gunvolt game in terms of gameplay, is GV3, GV2 introduce copen as a playable character, and he was busted as hell, like, insanely busted, but he was super free form to play and insanely fun to master, in ix that's where they perfected copen's gameplay, if anything, that would be the perfect gunvolt game, gameplay, story, memorable characters, excellent level design, you have everything in ix, ix 2 on the other hand, ugh, the story is basically shit, it's completely irrelevant, none of the characters matter, the gameplay, it's a far cry from the excellent free form control of ix, they basically gutted copen to an almost laughable state, don't get me wrong, ix 2 is a much better game than most platformers out there, but is inferior in almost every single way to its predecessor, in GV2 copen was absurdly broken because stages weren't design for him alone, but for gunvolt as well, in ix, stages are design for him, and they value your ability to masterfully dash in on every enemy and not touching the ground, that was the whole point of ix, it was still great design, ix 2 has more tame designs, because they nerfed copen to the ground, and is not like ix didnt have sections that limite you enough to where you have to use your dash carefully, I agree limiting gameplay can often result in a better experience, an example would be like tears of the kingdom, where if you where only limited to not built whatever the hell you wanted, then you would experience the game in a different way, I didnt have to play any temple cause I just built a flying motorcycle and call it a day, of course I could have choose not to and just play the game normally, but again, thats just an example, I think ix 2 doesn't exactly make it work, nerfing copen was not ok, in doing so, he lost all semblance of identity, the bullit system was far better than the one in ix 2, if anything, it could have being adjusted to something like, if you get hit, you lose 2 bullets, and limit the number of bullits, like maybe 2, that way, it would force people to master the game while retaining the masterful gameplay, but 1 dash is just really annoying and restricting, and it doesn't really improves the gameplay, because all the techniques you describe, are techniques that people do in order to travel faster with directions and whatnot.
The only point in which I agree with you, is that the story of ix 2 is trash, because it is, I honestly don't know what where they thinking when they made the script for that.
