The Ukraine Russia Conflict - Stranded in Phuket

When Russian forces invaded Ukraine, thousands of holidaymakers from both countries were stranded, far from home. Thailand has been one of the most popular destinations, since the government there began lifting covid restrictions to revive the tourist industry. Flights have been cancelled, and thousands of Russians have been unable to withdraw money or use their credit cards because of the sanctions. And the smaller number of Ukrainians in Thailand have had to watch from afar as their home towns and cities have been bombed. Our correspondent Jonathan Head reports from the resort island of Phuket.

Thanks so much for sharing this. This shows that our (mankind) leadership’s actions are no longer a “local” issue. I’m sure there will be many more in dire straits or stranded as a result of these and future embargoes. Great job showing these unnoticed side effects.
