Loved all of this! I do not have a green thumb either, so keeping real plants alive is just intimidating. Hats off to you for trying! This is just my POV, but as a reader, I despise the backward book trend. Your book choices are as interesting to me as your family photos. Thanks for great content!

Great tips!!! My mom always made and still does in our family home, clean and fresh. So I do the same in my home now (my family are clean freaks lol). One tip she gave us was keep your outside looking presentable and beautiful, because that's the first impression to anyone. Love your plants! They don't look fake. Excited to see your living room . It looks beautiful now. You're amazing, real and sweet lady!

Hi Leslie, I love your channel and style. I’ve been decorating with live plants for years and placement, according to species, is important. Many plants will thrive with direct sunlight and others will not. There are many reliable online sources to refer to for specific watering , feeding and light source placement. Also, if you have pets in your home, select wisely as many plants are toxic for pets that may chew the leaves. When I have company, I place several decorative facecloths, in a basket, on my bathroom counter for guests to use. After use, they place them in a small laundry basket. I like your idea of decorating with books. If you don’t want the book title to be displayed, my idea is to cover the book with decorative wrapping paper (solid or print) or leftover wallpaper. I agree that a pleasant fragrance in your home is inviting . I will brew a pot of water with cinnamon and nutmeg to add ambiance instead of burning a candle; of course, a batch of homemade cookies will also be welcomed.

I’m addicted to kitchen tea towels!😄
They are my weird weakness. Buy them on trips, etc. …or if I just happen to see a really cute one at a favorite gift shop or Tuesday Morning, I splurge!👍🏻 You can never have enough…and they truly add a pretty pop to a kitchen!
    I’m a pillow nut, too!😂
Thx for your fun videos. Have a great weekend.💕
Oh! And I use books in many spots in my house, also. But I just make sure it fits with the room and prefer showing the title/binder side. Adds warmth, I think.
Or maybe I’m just getting old and not used to the new trends?🤷‍♀️😂

Good tips...thank you! l like your living room very much...you have a beautiful home. l think alot of us are a bit guilty of not getting the most out of our furniture etc. but it is hard when things start to look tired and we see the next styles and trends. About plants, it's all about the light that they need (and not overwatering them) l would find it difficult to spend money decorating if l went from full-time to part-time hours at work. l am so interested in following how you and your husband are doing. Sending my prayers to you both.

Another great tips video and I love the concept of "The Company Test". Being a cat mommy I just wanted to mention the fact that there are quite a number of live plants that are toxic to both cats and dogs so I just wanted to suggest that if people are going to use live plants they check to make sure it is safe around their pets. I know that kitties and dogs tend to get into things all the time.
Wonderful ideas and as always your house looks so beautiful. Hugs and blessings.

I know you have your grand dog, be careful with your “real” plant. My cat just chewed a new leaf, didn't eat it and I didn't know it could be toxic to cats and dogs!! She ended up at the vet’s office for two days, it attacked her neurological system! She was pitiful! She couldn't walk straight and couldn't drink from her bowl, she would miss the bowl completely! Thank God she made it and is fine. Her vet told me that that plant and peace lillie's are poisonous to pets. I had to let them go because I didn't want to see any of my fur babies in that condition or worse!! ❤️

My glassware is out on shelving, so they are spotless, ( vinegar is your friend, lol.. whether washing by hand or in your dishwasher). I use clear Solo cups as well, I don't care for the red ones, except for 4th of July. I actually use " guest napkins " paper towels in a pretty holder made just for those, I'm weird like that, I only have the cloth hand towels " for pretty ". Consider getting a moisture meter to determine when your plants need water. Usually watering once a week is fairly safe, but some plants need more and others less. It all depends on the dryness verses humidity of your home.
I only use red solo cups to start my tomato seedlings in the spring.
Commercial air fresheners and spray contain many dangerous toxins. A diffuser for natural oils is the nicest way to add pleasant smells to your house. Frequently opening windows, to air your home is a great way to keep stale smells moving out.
I have a stash of guest hand towels and unused tea towels for the various holiday seasons. Thus way guests only use what we don’t.
Great video….I like the “view your home like you were company” That’s such a great way to get perspective and really see what your home needs. We do tend to get used to things and no longer see or judge the state of our home.

Leslie, I have confidence in you regarding the transition to live plants. The main factors are proper watering and light. If needed, spin your plants a quarter turn each time you water to keep them from reaching one sided toward the sun, and fertilize on occasion. Just don't make the mistake I did one time and use a fish emulsion on your indoor plants. Talk about a gross smell throughout my home! Set a reminder on your phone for weekly watering. Until you know your plant's needs, place your finger an inch into the soil and if dry, water. Pots should have drainage holes. Ceramic pots with matching water trays look nice and will protect your floors. Same for furniture. I have purchased coordinating plates or saucers at thrift stores to go under my smaller plants. Placing your large plants on rolling plant risers further protects floors and makes it easy to move for cleaning or rearranging. I find my large plants in ceramic pots heavy. You'll learn pretty quickly whether you are an over or under waterer. I have killed more plants in my lifetime by over watering than under watering ...😵‍💫 Find a friend who's successful and see if you can get propagated plants from them. I was blessed by that and then had someone I could learn about the plants need from. Wish I could give you some! What area do you live?

Here's another one! Always be sure the seam of the lamp shades are turned to the wall and that they are straight. Zero dollars! Also cut some branches from outdoors and set around the house in vases! Even some simple hosta leaves look elegant and modern in a vase! FREE! My mom taught me that if you are limited on time to clean before people come over, concentrate on the bathroom. That is the place people have a moment by themselves and can see how clean/dirty things are.

Clean costs nothing and has the biggest impact and also goes along with smelling better. Ugh I remember picking my daughter up from her friends house and I literally almost gagged when I went in. I think they had litter boxes that were well over due for a cleaning. I had to hold my breath and take little breaths until I got use to it. I will never forget that. Your tips are great ! Sometimes you have to stop and really look at your home to see if it is cluttered or needs some refreshing💕 . I usually shop my home or thrift stores to repurpose items.I am addicted to cute tea towels especially the cotton ones 💕. I am old school and love to iron 🤣🤣 As for the bathroom hand towels , I certainly would not use paper because it is a waste of our worlds natural resources. 😢 If you are that afraid of germs then use several cloth ones for individual use,. Thanks for sharing your beautiful home 🏡

I’ve been binge watching videos on home decorating. Most everyone is doing exactly the same thing. I don’t understand why.

Lovely home. Is that vacuum low noise for you? My ears ring after if I don't use ear protection, so I don't have rugs. Then I damp mop. I would love to have a vacuum but the pitch ruins it for me.

Iced coffee is great in Duncan's large cups. What brand can you find that size in glassto serve yourself iced coffee at home?

This vacuum pitch isn’t really low. I suffer from Ménière’s disease, and it’s not super quiet unfortunately! Definitely not the loudest either! I hope that helps!

Enjoy your videos a lot. Hey, we are in the nursery biz, and sell a lot of tropical plants. Here is your tip from me. For you alive plants inside, when you bring them in, and then once every other month, water them with 1 TBS of Epsom salt in a gallon of water. The plants in your video are magnesium sulfur dependent and will thrive a lot better if you do this. Trust me!!!

I have watched a few of your you tube videos....you are charming and sweet. What I actually noticed first was the color of the paint! It is exactly the color, "greige" we are looking for. Could you tell me the brand/color name?

Your home I’d lovely! I’d change your mirror in the powder room, people want to see from the waist up. And lower that other mirror. I always tell people to add 2 ice cubes in your plants ones a week you won’t kill it.

    • @ACharmingAbode

Thank you so much! Not a chance I"m lowering that mirror in the bathroom! One I do not want to clean splash marks all the time and, I know the camera doesn't show this, but I"m short! So others can see themselves just fine ( me too)! Also, the other mirror in the living room is part of a set on each side of the widow. They are lined up perfectly with the center of the walls to add symmetry. When looking at them straight on they look fantastic.
