I still think it was a FLAGRANT missed opportunity to not have an offical Iono vtuber for the franchise. Could use her for making offical announcements and the like.
The cards are also done by popular Japanese artists. The regular SR is done by Sanosuke Sakuma, who people may know as the one who designed a bunch of trainer classes for SwSh. The SAR is done by Kirisaki, has done many Full Art Supporters cards like SwSh Marnie, Raihan, and more recently Sada and Turo. They also done some work on Pokemon Unite.
i'm amazed how iono is being compared to vtubers even tho she isn't even a vtuber. she is a "normal" streamer; by that i mean she doesn't use an artwork or model to represent her. she is in the same thing like Raihan, yet people don't realize it.
I mostly think of Vtuber Because of her unexplainable, funny design. Tho, it's Pokémon, she ABSOLUTELY must wear unexplainable clothes when she can also cuz of some of her expressions hehheheh but you're right, she's a full 3d person in canon, but the comparision stands strong because of the similarities

I feel the more you become familiar with streamer culture, the more you appreciate Iono. I also think that her battle was a good showcase of the potential of Terastalization. That Mismagius can seriously spell trouble if you don’t have a strong enough Pokémon to take it down.
I tried to be clever by using a Naclstack with Smack Down (a move which eliminates any Ground immunity) & a Ground-type move to deal with Electric Tera, yet it still was a bit of trouble with its moves (E.g: Confuse Ray).
"I also think that her battle was a good showcase of the potential of Terastalization" - I feel it highlights all the problems that come from suddenly being able to turn Pokemon into any type and access ability and move play that previously was not allowed. It makes Pokemon type ultimately feel meaningless, since there's always going to be certain Terra types that are better in all situations (Steel, Grass, Ice), and in what world would you ever run a Pure Ice type when you can terra a better Mon into an Ice type and get all the benefits with no downsides? After all, we all know how important paralysis is... suddenly it stops working because my key Pokemon you badly want to paralyze is now an Electric type, isn't this mechanic fun?
With English voice acting too. There's already a V-Tuber who directly imitates her, even having the exact same appearance, so it's not that unlikely we'd see this.
Iono is definitely one of my favorite Gym Leaders in Paldea. Her streamer personality is weird but fun as well as her battle even though she's not too hard. Her Magnemite hair clips and oversized sleeves also remind me of Lidelle from Puyo Puyo, One of my favorite characters from that series whitch makes me like Iono more.
Iono has to be one of my favorite Electric Gym Leaders of all time. The very in your face streamer personally goes well with her type, along with her rocking some really great mons to boot! Plus, was not expecting the Where's Waldo mini game with her tbh, then again, they DID reference TMNT & Subway in the games to, so who am I to judge! 🤣

I have a weakness for duel colored things so Iono’s design quickly became a favorite. The pastel blue and pink just work very well together and the yellow and silver make it pop even more. Was also pretty funny when someone donated their Pokedollers to her stream only for her to barely acknowledge it. Also finally, another Klara simp. I absolutely love the toxic queen.
I attended a pre-release event for Paldea Evolved yesterday, and someone there actually pulled an alt are Iono. Everyone in the room freaked out over it
As someone who collects the cards and builds decks to play with a friend with them, I think that beyond Iono being a popular character and having admittedly amazing artwork for her card, another big factor that is likely driving the price of the card way up is that the effect you get from playing it is really good. Because of all these factors, I'm really not surprised that her card is so expensive right now, as a card has to either have a popular Pokemon or human character (such as Charizard, for example, need I say more?) or be a playable card, if not both, to be able to fetch higher prices. It's definitely similar for the other trading card game I have had previous experience with, Yu-Gi-Oh, as I've noticed that building a deck that's strong in that game's current meta is quite expensive
The moment that she bacame my favorate gym leader was when a person donated, I laughed and said "ok, NOW it's really realistic". Random thought that went in my mind: only half of her team is weak to ground, electric's only weakness, and if you want to count it bellibolt is tanky and has water gun so it can technically counter ground types. Hoenstly, pokemon could make a completely seperate game with that aspect alone, and the more moves you get right the more points you get which you can use to obtain newer pokemon or stages, now thats something I'd love to play
If you actually played the TCG, you will understand that one reason Iono's card is so expensive to begin with is that Iono's card is powerful in the actual Pokemon TCG game meta. It's so good that you will play 4 copies of it in over 50% of the decks just for the actual card effect, not the card art. The current ridiculous price won't be THAT ridiculous if Iono's in-game effect was just some worthless unplayable card.

But then you compare that to something arguably more in line with social media reveals, like the spectacle of the Ultra Beasts being revealed in Pokemon GO, and things like lost footage of Hisuian Zorua/Zoroark (legends arceus), and the whimsical teasing of Greavard. *maaaaybe* Grafaiai's still image tree painting images? they just looked far more mysterious and engaging. and yes, the 2:10 video is Bandai Namco America's Digimon Survive reveal from a year ago. took so long that it got pit against Xenoblade Chronicles 3. and people either forgot of it, or was unaware that it was kind of a visual novel turn based strategy game... 👀
Scarlet and Violet appeal far more to the young Gen Z demographic, which is fantastic because that's the current intended audience for this game. Streamers, rappers, and influencers totally fall in line with what a gym leader/pop culture icon should be in the Pokemon world. It feels modern, props to GameFreak for creating such colorful characters. Design philosophy has always been a strong suit in the Pokemon world, just hope they can catchup when it comes to hardware limitations and full creative implementation of that design.
My personal opinion on Iono: 100/10 way too *shocking.* Got me *amped* up just thinking about her. Honestly, the cult following and the whole situation of her card selling out just makes so much sense (she practically begs for attention, and she's a streamer, so subscriber count's gotta be high). My eyes were definitely her's, caught in her Electroweb.

I'm not gonna lie, I really didn't like Iono's voice in her debut video. It just sounded so annoying to me, so much so that I'm actually kinda glad Scarlet and Violet doesn't have any voice acting because I for sure would have muted the game when I got to Iono's gym.
I feel like you missed the mark on why she’s so expensive in japan, whenever there’s not a “chase” alt art in a set the “waifus” get expensive so market manipulators/scalpers can sell their scalped boxes. When scarlet and violet came out the alt arts can be trainers as well so there’s no longer a need for sets to have a popular Pokémon, on top of that japenese sets aren’t printed to the demand of japenese collectors and foreign collectors who like the japenese card quality. So the “waifu” part is just a small part of why the cards so expensive

I think it was somewhat intentional for Iono to get people to simp for her since there even was refrences to stuff that happens with streamers (im geussing nintendo/game freak might referencing female streamers more, but I dont watch streamers so who am I to say) mainly with stuff like the comments she makes when she gets more viewers after each stage in the challenge (then quickly changing the topic to congratulating your charecter), and even when someone donated either 1,000 or 10,000 pokedollars (it's been a long while since I have seen an Iono fight, and even fighting her myself since I already done both fights in my scarlet file) and she went out of her way to thank whoever donated then realized she was still in battle, then she changed the topic back to the battle
I think The Pokémon Company isn’t utilizing their Pokémon Trainers well enough. Pokémon Master EX for example is a Pokémon Trainer gacha game. Most gacha games also sell merchandise of all of their characters and their multiple alternate outfits. They haven’t utilized that enough. Just recently they’re collaborating with Uniqlo to make a few underwhelming Pokémon Masters EX shirts. Years ago there was Caitlin merch that I wanted to get and couldn’t and have waited years since for another opportunity. I really hope Kotobukiya will make a figure of Caitlin eventually.

Sableye and spiritomb did it first in gen 3 and 4 respectively and all it teaches is that type charts aren't all that matters in a pokemon game.
There are moves that can temporarily disable levitate plus the floating leech is an electric levitate mon.

I loved the Rhythm Game Gym challenge a lot actually. Especially since I'm a fan of Rhythm Games in general, so I didn't bother me to be honest.

Design philosophy has always been a strong suit in the Pokemon world, just hope they can catchup when it comes to hardware limitations and full creative implementation of that design.
My personal opinion on Iono: 100/10 way too *shocking.* Got me *amped* up just thinking about her. Honestly, the cult following and the whole situation of her card selling out just makes so much sense (she practically begs for attention, and she's a streamer, so subscriber count's gotta be high).
My eyes were definitely her's, caught in her Electroweb.

I'm kinda glad my favorite pokemon character is a little less popular bc his merch is a BIT more affordable and Ive been able to save up for the figures and plushies and have a few of his cards including a full art. (its Bede from SwSh/masters EX) lol when it comes to scar/vi I'm actually really hoping for some Arven,Penny and Ortega Merch. Iono is adorable too tho!!

I'm not gonna lie, I really didn't like Iono's voice in her debut video. It just sounded so annoying to me, so much so that I'm actually kinda glad Scarlet and Violet doesn't have any voice acting because I for sure would have muted the game when I got to Iono's gym.

I feel like you missed the mark on why she’s so expensive in japan, whenever there’s not a “chase” alt art in a set the “waifus” get expensive so market manipulators/scalpers can sell their scalped boxes. When scarlet and violet came out the alt arts can be trainers as well so there’s no longer a need for sets to have a popular Pokémon, on top of that japenese sets aren’t printed to the demand of japenese collectors and foreign collectors who like the japenese card quality. So the “waifu” part is just a small part of why the cards so expensive

I think it was somewhat intentional for Iono to get people to simp for her since there even was refrences to stuff that happens with streamers (im geussing nintendo/game freak might referencing female streamers more, but I dont watch streamers so who am I to say) mainly with stuff like the comments she makes when she gets more viewers after each stage in the challenge (then quickly changing the topic to congratulating your charecter), and even when someone donated either 1,000 or 10,000 pokedollars (it's been a long while since I have seen an Iono fight, and even fighting her myself since I already done both fights in my scarlet file) and she went out of her way to thank whoever donated then realized she was still in battle, then she changed the topic back to the battle
I think Iono is really cute, she reminds me of Numbuh 3 from Codename: Kids Next Door.

I think The Pokémon Company isn’t utilizing their Pokémon Trainers well enough. Pokémon Master EX for example is a Pokémon Trainer gacha game. Most gacha games also sell merchandise of all of their characters and their multiple alternate outfits. They haven’t utilized that enough. Just recently they’re collaborating with Uniqlo to make a few underwhelming Pokémon Masters EX shirts. Years ago there was Caitlin merch that I wanted to get and couldn’t and have waited years since for another opportunity. I really hope Kotobukiya will make a figure of Caitlin eventually.
