  • Rebuilt my torque tube using Texas drivetrain performance hardened prop shaft. I also swapped the 10mm driveshaft out for a 12mm piece from a 2001 Z06. I had some issues getting parts and this took a lot longer than I had anticipated. Because of that, some things were left out. Hope you enjoy!

Thanks for making the video. This should help me this weekend when I try doing the same job.

Very informative. I’ll definitely watch this when I inevitably have to do mine again.

Thanks. Looking back, I should have just done a 1 piece driveshaft. Between buying snap ring pliers, the rebuild kit and the press, it was about the same price.

I'm glad I did it while I had it apart. Now itkk be easier to find the next weakest link 😂

Good info! Wish you would have shown the pressing of the bearings.

Sorry about that. I've been trying to keep the videos shorter and to the point. In doing so Ive been leaving some other things out. Still new at this, but I appreciate you watching!

A rather obscure fact is that along with all the other 2001 torque tube upgrades, the outside case aluminum was also upgraded, but I did only read that fact once. On the internet, where all the changes throughout the car were listed.
I assume the easier route of just buying a used later year torque tube and rebuilding that, was not taken is because the specific for that year rear coupler had to be retained. Either that or you have all the tools anyway, so no big problems modifying anything. But had you chosen to keep the worn one complete, it might have been able to be recycled , which always helps with old cars needing parts. Maybe not super critical with this pretty much one to a customer part.

I did not know that the aluminum housing was different as well. If I had known what I know now, I would have just sprung for the one piece driveshaft. The price of those is what made me go this route, but in the end it would have been about the same price.
