  • WARNING - I made a dyslexic error when copying the formula. I left out a 7. The formula SHOULD read BA(deg)=(0.0078MT+0.01743BR)xdeg. This error affects all 5 of the non-90 videos I made. I will have to re-shoot. In the meantime, I will flag the error to make sure no one is harmed! - WARNING
Intended for FAA aircraft mechanic training, this is a classroom style example that shows how to lay apply the formulas developed in previous videos and to create the developed blank ready to cut and fold. No special effects, smoke, or mirrors - just crunching the numbers,. This is Example 4 of 4. This problem involves a 90 degree and non-90 degree bend, so we are forced to keep track of two setbacks and two bed allowances.

does your BA=(.0078mt+.0143br) x deg, formula incorporate actual K factor (K=t/T....neutral axis at distance t) for particular material. I guess constant's .0078 and .0143 are in function of K=t/T?

How is the 1" flange on the 135deg bend measured? Is it 1" from end of the flange to apex of the bend? Or is it 1" from end of the flange to the mold point (from your non-90 bend video)?

if you make a diagram the correct angle you use is half of 45 degrees?

Wait, but if i were to use the formula, "BA(90)= 0.702MT + 1.57BR " to calculate the bend allowance at the 90 degree section, I would get 0.2706.
    BA(90) = 0.702*(0.05) + 1.57*(0.15)
    = 0.0351 + 0.2355
    = 0.2706.
which is different than using the other formula, and get 0.228.
    Am I missing something here?

No - you are the first person to catch my screw-up. I left a digit out of the simplified non-90 formula, which should come in BA(deg) = (0.0078MT+0.01743BR)(deg). I did this on the deriving video, and the error is carried forward on the 4 example videos. I intend to redo all five videos next spring, when I teach the class again. These ones will be removed from you-tube at that time. That's what I get for being somewhat dyslexic. Kudo's on looking close enough to spot the error.

You learned a lot because you spent the time to understand it. Kudos on that, and good luck on your endeavors!

I also have to confess that I knew about the mistake shortly after posting, but I just never "got around" to 'fessing up about it. ;-)

bend allowance...not bed..slow down a little, It would also be a little helpful if you could write neater, it makes it hard to follow you...your great at what you do please consider my request
