In this video I paint the clothes of Saint Anastasia of Rome. As I don't have a reference in the cretan style, I will have to summon my experience and intuition, to create one.

I just read the story of St. Anastasia of Rome, it is very emotional, but she died a martyr and became a saint.
I want to thank you for all of these videos. I am an Orthodox Christian teenager who finds himself drawn to the faith more and more.
My father is a professional iconographer and fresco painter, so are his friends. My mother and her sister (my aunt) are professional iconographers. My grandfather and his 3 sons and wife from a different marriage are all professional iconographers and fresco painters. There are a few more family members with similiar professions.
I am not saying this to boast or gloat about my family, not at all.
I just wanted to explain that basically everyone I know is an artist, but I was never really drawn to it.
However as the months pass, I find myself very drawn to Orthodox and Renissance art, much thanks to your videos.
I mean, what is better? Working at McDonalds or some market, or devoting my life to Orthodox Christian art, and continuing my father's business.
I realize that I have an amazing opportunity to learn, something that many don't have. I should not waste the opportunity.
Anyways, sorry for a lot of text. I just wanted to share my situation with you, because you are a master at the art.
God Bless you and thank you very much!

"Focused on the manurism, they loose the substance!" Such a valuable point! I've noticed the line, but this made it even more clear for me🙏

What the hell does manurism mean ?
The only definition ive found was in the urban dictionary and it said : "It's when your bro freaks out" 😂

    Dear Antonios,
Thank you so much. You bless me to see and understand. God bless you and your compassionate and holy mission. Thank you also for expressing the appropriateness of the iconographer's artistry and sense of beauty in the making of an icon: tradition and canons and also heart and artist's soul of the iconographer in the process of making an icon. Freeing!

There's something about that style of painting the fabric that works with the gold leaf to place the Saint very effectively in a different atmosphere/plane than ours. She is accessible, in your tradition, and I see her in her light and could approach her as though through an open window. I look forward to seeing the completed icon.

' Οπως πάντα, φοβερό video και εξαιρετική δουλειά. Ευχαριστούμε πολύ. Πως μπορούμε να τα ακούμε και ελληνικά φίλε Αντώνη για εμάς που δεν ξέρουμε πολύ καλά αγγλικά?? ή τουλάχιστον κάτω από τα video να γράφεις στα ελληνικά τους συνδυασμούς χρωμάτων αν είναι φυσικά δυνατόν

This is very beautifully done but I'm not sure how to translate it into my own work. You said to consider "how the light would behave on the garment" but that is precisely what I don't know! Not that I'm a particularly good artist with secular topics but, with them, I can at least determine a light source and estimate how light and shadow should interact. That doesn't work with icons, of course, which is part of what makes them so uniquely beautiful. I find that sometimes my reference photos are of limited quality so that I need to "be creative" to fill in what cannot be readily visualized. Yet it is hard to do this without guidelines, given my current (limited) level of experience. Suggestions?
