Shade will change a lot, he will go through coat sheds, but genetically he will always be buckskin. Think about Bryni, she was 6 months old when they bought her as a bright buckskin, she went quite dark during some of her foal sheds and is now back to a bright buckskin colour. Just because horses coats go lighter and darker doesn't mean they are a different colour - it is just described as either light or dark buckskin.
I have a buckskin connemara, dam is grey, sire also grey (born bay) had a lovely foal from her last year, sire was a grey Arab, my filly foal is buckskin, and also had non-believers, she is 18 months old now, still buckskin, and a stunning caramel buckskin colour. Vali is stunning, and looks every bit a buckskin, best of luck with your beautiful boy xx
Aww vali is so cute and precious your so lucky to have him and Dee Dee! I think he’s gonna remain buckskin ❤ which would be amazing because he’s so adorable ❤ buckskin is the one colour I did not expect ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😂
Definitely buckskin. We’re in the same boat with ours. He looks true buckskin but he has the dun markings. Do he’s probably a bay dun or maybe a grullo.
Palomino is red + cream (chestnut + cream) and buckskin is bay + cream. So both have the cream gene but the base colour is the difference. Vali is buckskin as he has a black mane, tail, forelock plus black nose and fetlocks. A palomino would not have a black nose and the mane, tail etc would be cream or white plus the hooves would be light/shell coloured. Vali has black hooves and the black leg colour comes through as buckskin foals grow. At the moment his lower legs are covered in buff coloured 'camouflage'.

As the owner of a grey horse. I watched my chocolate foal turn a bay to gray by the time he was 2. He started when he shed off his foal coal. Shave the hair off an area on his neck. The skin should be black for a buckskin. If your mare has white skin under her grey hair that is. ❤
For our blood pressure, you have to get him tested. I want him to stay this colour so bad! Is dark palomino a thing? Because buckskin always has black legs, right? Edit: I learned from the comments that dark palomino is not a thing 😅
The black legs come in as foals get older, right now he has buff coloured legs to help him camouflage. If you look he has black fetlocks and black hooves, a black nose, black mane, tail, and forelock. A palomino would have white or cream coloured mane, tail, etc, a cream or pink nose and light/shell coloured hooves and very light fetlocks. Megan is questioning buckskin vs bay but he is clearly too cream for bay.
He looks different out side so that throws you off to ! Looks buckskin inside , does he have a dun stripe? He might turn grey but right now he's def a light buckskin color right now
I’ve only just started to believe that winney is grey 😂😂 I was firmly on the roan fence, but I can see now she’s going grey. Never seen one go grey like winney. I feel like this boy is buckskin. But then it just seems so unlikely…. Get that colour test done!
That's a buckskin that's what we call up the skin maybe other people don't do it but I I always been told that that was a buckskin Gunsmoke starring James arness That was his horse that he rode was a buckskin gunsmoke when everybody started watching TV in color. . A buckskin
Just for people that don’t understand fools are born different colors then what they turn into when they get older so a horse can be born jet black, but then turned into a gray because that’s what happened to one of the horses at my barn
Usually black horses are born a mousey dark grey colour. Jet black is indicative of a goal going gray. It happens in all base colours, if the foal is born a bold colour it's usually graying. However there are exceptions. Freisans are born jet black usually and clearly don't gray out. But the general rule is a dark coloured foal will gray.
He does look buckskin to me, my friend has a buckskin who looks pretty bay depending on the time or year but during the summer his gold really shines. I think it will be easier to tell once she sheds out his bang hair. He also doesn’t have goggles. Does anyone in his line carry sooty? I do think you should still get him DNA tested
Have a look at freespirit equestrian, one of her auction horses came carrying a foal. She is grey and Essy was born a buckskin that went grey. Shea says that Essy is born buckskin going grey. It is a strong possibility that he will end up grey. It is a 50/50 chance he will go grey unless his mother is Homozygous and then she will pass 100% of the gene over to him. It only depends on the mare and the sires gene does not count.
If you look at Ezzy at birth she is hyperpigmented and has goggles so it was obvious she was going to grey. Megan's foal is not hyperpigmented, has no goggles and plenty of foal camouflage so highly likely there is no grey.
Oh this is interesting just Googled your foals colour chart and markings...Black-point colors are bay, black, brown, grulla, buckskin and zebra dun. Non-black-point colors are champagne, chestnut/sorrel, cremello, red dun, palomino and silver dapple xx
❤he could be a buckskin more than anything else. They do change color in the first few months. Just wait and see. He seems too dark to be a cremelo whatever he is he is horsome❤❤❤❤
He isa buckskin bu u never know what color he'll be when he grows up I mean he could be that color or he could be a completely different color u can never really know with foals
Of course he is a buckskin right now. That doesn't mean he doesn't have the gray gene too. Just get him color tested, there is no way to guess this one until he's older.
I absolutely thought he would turn grey because of how light he is but then I've never seen a grey horse like Winnie 😳 I don't know, I think there's something in your water 😮😂
Gray foals are born dark not light. They don't have any camouflage to their coat. The gray gene causes the hair to burn through colour quickly so they go gray. Winnie is an example of a slow grazing horse. You can clearly see it in her tail, and she's starting to get flecking through her coat now. But she's taking her time. She will probably still have colour in her teens as she's taking a long time.
I am constantly perplexed by foal colors. No idea what he'll turn into, but he's lovely!
He sure looks buckskin now, but I wouldn't be surprised if his coat color changes. He is precious, no matter what color he is! ❤

He is cute, and I think whatever coat he turns, he will be gorgeous and cute!! I had a buckskin foal turn black🫣 you never know
Of course he is buckskin. What else could he possibly be? You can see that the mare was born buckskin in her earliest picture too
that is not how it works
I've studied equine colour genetics for about 3 years, my opinion is buckskin, no grey. 🥰
Definitely buckskin. We’re in the same boat with ours. He looks true buckskin but he has the dun markings. Do he’s probably a bay dun or maybe a grullo.
I'm 100% on Team Buckskin. My own yearling is a buckskin and almost identical in color.
Either way he’s gorgeous!
Looks buckskin to me. We see a lot of buckskin around here. He's going to be gorgeous whether buckskin or with a greying gene.
I really appreciate the up close look at that SNOOT!

@@jg4171 its just that she said people were denying him being a buckskin so I had totally think of another color!!!
@@HorseyAdventures32 no worries! She mentioned that people are not convinced he is buckskin and think he is bay. He is too creamy to be bay.
@@jg4171 ta he is way to creamy to be a bay!!! 😆
I would say a dun. Does he have a dorsal stripe? If not, buckskin. Its hard to tell when they are so young!❤
He might turn out bay?❤❤
Looks like a buckskin to me!!! ❤
He looks Dun or buckskin, sooo cute ❤
You definitely got your buckskin ❤
His little nose and tongue are so cute!!
I had a grey Connemara mare who had a beautiful dapple buckskin! she had no cream gene aswell, hopefully that happens with you guys!

He absolutely looks Buckskin. And I don’t see any of the markers of a foal with the grey gene. He is buckskin and will stay buckskin

I think he’s a buckskin
He looks like buckskin I have one also
Cream brown
not a horse color
I say definitely buckskin, and I’m really like 97% sure he’s not gonna go grey
He looks like he will probably be a buckskin as like a foal and filly. But no idea what he will turn in to
Buckskin for sure
Maybe light bay or buckskin?
I think he’s a black mane and tail palomino ❤
I HOPE VALI GETS BETTER SOON ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ 😢❤❤
