In the Winter of 2016, I travelled to the chilly Old Post Office deep in the Arthurian land of Tintagel, for a University of Falmouth production of The Highwayman, based on the 1906 poem by Alfred Noyes. I portray the narrator who bears grim witness to a treacherous tryst. Director Oliver Chater and Producer Henry Isaksen invited me on board after their successful Kickstarter campaign, and to return to the University for additional ADR work.
Highlights include chewing the fat with Poldark and Doc Martin stalwart Rory Wilton, enjoying the splendid National Trust building for the day, and working with a vibrant young crew. The Highwayman was entered into The National Film Festival for Talented Youth among others, and Ben Sutcliffe's excellent score took the runner-up spot at the 2017 LA Shorts awards.

I was actually surprised by the quality of this!! The only thing I noticed that was off was that the landlords daughter was not gagged. Great job!! Keep up the good work Ryan!!
I feel like tiny details, like Bess being gagged and the ugliness of Tim, are fine to be excluded. They didn’t affect the overall narrative of the poem, so it doesn’t really matter. It is still very good quality
I read this as a child, and almost had forgotten the story. Thanks for the chilling memory.
I want a REAL movie based on this poem. It’s a 1700s crime epic. The highwaymen era was like the Wild West. Crime, love and drama it’s got everything.
Yeah that would be cool
The chick portraying bess is hot
A movie was made. In Colorado. But it never was distributed.
Agreed! It has everything. Would make an awesome movie
Ikr!
The story is basically a love story between a landlord’s daughter and a man who was scorned by society. This is a truly romantic story. Love bounds classes eternally ❤️
Thank you for narrating "The Highwayman" so beautifully, Ryan!
This needs waaaay more recognition
I thoroughly enjoyed your film adaptation of my favorite poem in all the world. The quality of acting, scenery, and narration was excellent. Bravo and thank you for bringing a smile and warm remembrance of my favorite poem.
If this doesn't make you cry, nothing else will... Beautifully portrayed poem...
Ngl the dad w her ribbon at the end brought tears to my eyes
I’m studying this RIGHT NOW in school. I think this is really great! Good job!

Tantalizingly beautiful.... An excellent portrayal.Loved it!!!!!
I read this.... 'The highway man.' By Alferd Noyes in my school days but I didn't get the chance to watch the video 😍💯 whatever I imagined and visualized going through the poem those days, exactly I saw today in this video........ thank you my great English teachers Miss. Choki and Bhim Sir 🙏🙏🙏
Ah! thank you so much for this video! At my school we are learning about this and this has really helped me!!!
Well done, great job. Ignore the negative comments, mostly seemingly from people who either don't value poetry or whose cultural differences get in the way. Well done.
This is great, thank you. (But Tim looks a bit too handsome and nice!)
Excellent is the only word
We watched this with my 7th grade ELA class and they loved it! :)
One detail - the landlord's daughter should be gagged
Naoczny2 ;)
Naoczny2 Hi
and black haired.
You can never be president now lol but well worth pointing out:)
This is so great for students studying "The Highwayman"! I play it for my students every year. You did a wonderful job with suspense, costume, lighting, etc. Thank you!
This is the culmination of all my dreams. Absolutely beautiful
Bess' hair should be black I would think, and Tim is a handsome guy, not like what the poem says.
I don't think the poem mentioned him being ugly.
Extremely well done!
Im studying this at school i love this :)
I'm 6th sem Aecc student this is awesome
Love from India
Excellent!

its so easy to understand it.
This should get more likes
The best I’ve seen so far!
LOVED THIS!!! WELL DONE! THANKS FOR SHARING!!!❤️❤️❤️
This poem was in one of my Childcraft books, 1948 edition. I loved it and the illustrations. I still have that one book of the set, Book 2, Storytelling and Other Poems. A true childhood treasure.
probly better than any other highway man narrating EVER
That’s amazing! Great job!
This is absolutely one of my favorite poems! I love this so much!
Oml Monika no.
I really enjoyed this, thanks for making it. Tiny quibbles about a few lines being missed out, Bess not being gagged, the soldiers feeling Bess's leg and that Tim was better looking than the Highwayman (he looked too old for Bess!) and Bess's hair not really black. Other than that, well done. I cried at the end!
I love this!
Absolutely beautiful.
Love this! Very well done!! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
As a young child, our Mother would read to us nearly every night. I would absolutely ask her to read The Highwayman. I was stunned and captivated. She did at one point suggest I pick a different story but I remain haunted with Alfred Noyes classic poem. The Fleetwood Mack video left me cold....it was hardly up to the tragic drama portrayed by brilliant poet Noyes.
Love it! Great job!
It was Amazing !!! Thank you !!!
one-word can describe this video. Amazing
you see i'd always attributed the line Blood red were his spurs by the golden noon, to mean he actually gave the redcoats a big fight, killing several. Then it goes on to say wine red was his velvet coat, meaning even though he gave them a good fight and took out several they over powered him.
Well Ryan you have been telling this so neat and that Bess was killed and Tim the Ostler and The Highwayman your smart and well done i like how you explained the poem on the book good
Great great great!!!
We are learning about this in year 5. ITS AMAZING. We didn't watch this version though. We watched the cartoon one.

I read the poem thie evening and it helps me to understand well.
Thanks so much!
Why isn't Bess gagged?
Ruby Gaming that doesn't make sense
It probably might’ve infringed on her human rights or smth
Woah this is really good ❤ i didn't understood this poem while reading now I got to know the exact meaning.
I’m reading this at school
Wow!
Thank you for this video, I’ve analyse it 🥺

This rare disease called *photoshop* makes us all pleasured.
They skipped
"He rose upright in the stirrups. He scarce could reach her hand,
But she loosened her hair in the casement. His face burnt like a brand
As the black cascade of perfume came tumbling over his breast;
And he kissed its waves in the moonlight,
(O, sweet black waves in the moonlight!)
Then he tugged at his rein in the moonlight, and galloped away to the west."
I Hate School
SO SCARY
👏
Everywhere by Fleetwood Mac brought me here
And Loreena McKennitt's ballad brought *me* here.

What ??? A Beast ??? I never knew there was a beast....scawy stoff
Did they act die?
I've always thought this song would be an engrossing video, but the narration definitely kills it. It should be made to follow the rendition of the poem made by Loreena McKennitt. The first time I heard that song, not knowing anything about the poem I was blown away emotionally. It would be great to see that in music video format with these production values.
Class 9 NCERT
Think this is appropriate for 7th graders? I may use it for my students...
There are small blood splatters as someone is shot, and a man hangs himself at the end. They're the only intense moments.
Ryan Cooper I was questioning that and the moment where one of the military men grabs Bess’s thigh
@@ww_rose Yes indeed. Don't know if you could get the advice of fellow teachers? Not sure if I'm in the best position to answer :)
The first poem I can remember. My mum used to jog me on her lap to the rhythm of it when I was as young as 4. And I’m not scarred for life. In fact it’s the reason I love poetry
