Thank you so much Pastor Skip and Calvary Church for all of the bible series. I am a baby Christian and I am from Turkey. The sources are very limited for me since I live in a small town. I educated myself through your videos. Thank you for everything!
Every time I see a comment from non Christian countries like this it is a little blessing to me as a Western Christian. May God grow his kingdom both in and around you.
I went to catholic school for 12 yrs . I am 80 yrs old. I remember the nuns saying if we love God and keep the commandments we would go to heaven however if we died and there were still sins not confessed something to the effect of going to purgatory as a place to pay or atone for sins and after the atonement we would then go to heaven. That never seemed logical to me. Because the nuns also said Jesus died on the cross for our sins. I always wondered why they never allowed us to read the Bible also and almost every year I would ask why can't we read the Bible on our own and the answer was it was too confusing and we might not understand it. I got saved late in life. I was 63 and the Bible that I read cover to cover in a month and a half as I lay in bed for all that time recovering from pneumonia was how and when I got saved. I have that Bible still and cherish that Bible still. Sometimes I sleep next to it. The Word of God. My favorite Scripture is John 1:1-4 HalleluYah and Amen
I've been studying and memorizing 1John lately and I was looking for video to talk a little bit more about the background and history surrounding John's writing. This sermon is fantastic. Pastor Skip, I'm very thankful for your clear teaching. This is gold.
Skip is very intelligent and I love how he always prays to God before he digs into the word. I believe it’s clear that God has granted him the gift of reaching and teaching. I began my real journey when I purchased an audible version of “How to Study the Bible”. I am truly blessed in my life especially in the worst times of my life and I’m grateful that I’m able to hear Pastor Skip preach. I’m in Nashville TN, but always wanted to come to see him preach in person.
Good sermon, hit many of the same points as David Pawson's Unlocking the Bible sermon on 1 John, but different emphases, more pastoral. Nice to not have all the COVID madness going on any more.
Thank you pastor skip for teaching us worldwide and your way to make us understand the word of God is strikingly going direct to our Hearts and mind stay safe Pastor skip and calvary church 092021
Thank you skip for your faithfulness, heart, and all you d to be a blessing to so many, especially in such uncertain times when so much uncertainty. But I believe god is using Satan's darkness to get us to realize who we were meant to be, to turn us back to him.
He who lives believing will not taste death. But He who allows God Our Father To make that Choice Is best off. We all have died with Jesus on The Cross and raised to new life and are given The power to become a Child of God like Jesus Our Lord The second Adam
You gave a great definition of gnosticism as far as the idea of special knowledge that only a special few have. That is exactly what Calvinism or reformed theology is it is gnosticism
Dear Amanda, I’ve only just seen your request, but it will be a privilege to pray for you. I became born again in my mid 30’s and I found that finding a good church is key. You’ll get help, guidance and Jesus’ love to set you on your way. 😇
I pray in the precious and almighty name of Jesus that God would send His Holy Spirit to impart you with His divine power and life so that you would be transformed into the likeness of Jesus Christ our 👑 .
Hi, Skip I am really enjoying your teaching on the scriptures brother, bless you for providing this for us. Do you have a website link for your church and any resources I may buy. Shalom
What are the 5 ways? I have read this book before and am reading it again now, but I struggle daily (for over 35 years) with my assurance. This would be a great blessing. What if I continually mess up one of these? I believe one of the things you are referring to is loving others, I have a very hard time loving people, I am very judgmental. Not something I am proud of but is definitely my "default" mode.
We only think John was the beloved disciple because of Iraneus. In the gospel of John the only person that Ststes is loved is Lazarus. Also known a John Eleazor. See Ben Witherington
1 John is written for Jews awaiting Messiah to sit on the throne of David. It has zilch to do with the Body of Christ. John said "now is the last hour," and then he explains the coming of antichrist. I can tell you confidently that the "last hour" is not 2,000 years. Since Jews rejected Messiah during the time of the Book of Acts, 1 John will apply to the Jewish saints during the tribulation, which is truly the "last hour." The Greek word "hora" means imminent. It does not mean 2,000 years.
@CalvaryChurchwithSkipHeitzig in regards to the opening of 1 John 2 when the writer says “I am writing to you so that you do not sin”, respectfully, your take on what John is communicating there seems really narrow and not at all correct (when you bring up how difficult not sinning sounds)… and I say that because you pointed out how old John was when writing this, you reference how he referred to fellow Christians as “little children”, and you and I both know that he was writing to grown adults… so when he was saying he was writing so that they didn’t sin, he was very literally saying that he was writing what he was writing so that grown adults didn’t sin, but in the event someone does they have an advocate with the Father. So you bringing up how we have all sinned takes away from the intentions that John had when writing this letter because he apparently viewed ongoing sin as a Christian differently than you do Skip. Frankly, I’m really surprised by this because I’ve been watching your sermons for years and I thought you’d for sure be the one to really drive the importance of being free from sin since so much of the New Testament is dedicated to that very idea… that one can truly avoid sin once me has been sanctified, just like Paul spoke of him “pummeling his body into submission” as a means of living a life pleasing to God, and not as a means of salvation, but instead in response to salvation… just like Peter talks of living a life free from sin in his second letter. So what gives here? Why not dove tail this into a teaching in sanctification?
@A J I don’t know that I ever implied Skip was perfect or that I was… and changing the narrative of a passage of scripture by adding context that isn’t even implied in the passage seems off…
Did I just hear a mention of ANYONE with the last name skinner in a biblical reference? This isn’t Kansas Toto and as far as anyone with a brain knows people with that last name are as far from God as it gets.
What about the Body of Christ and its relation to the Gospel of the Kingdom. Its important for listeners to know Jesus himself said He came but TO THE LOST SHEEP OF ISRAEL and no else in the gospels. Jesus said this in all the gospel books, but teachers and preachers glkss over it and preach the gospels as if they were meant for the truth. 1 John is an end time epistle to believing Jews. The Apostle Paul wrote the Gospel of Grace Rom thru Philomen which is to the CHURCH, period.
Thank you!!

The theme is easy "Jesus" summarizing him "Impossible!" Praise God!
Why does everyone skip 1 john 3:3-8.. is it because they don't want to say they are in sin.
Jesus is Lord

The fact that you are aware of your need to work on being less judgmental is everything. I would just pray on this daily until God changes your heart.
Where’s the continuation for this Chapter?

I have enjoyed your teaching up to 1John . I really don’t think the words you are saying to discribe John are accurate.

You missed the point
Jesus Christ is the son of god
Jesus is not god the father
Numbers 23:19
You’re not believing the testimony of his son
Did well until the end.
Shouldn't mock god nor should you mock other people like your teaching is kicking goals
3/10
You need oone yo teach you?
Really?
