  • We recorded this 4k ultra hd video during our trip to Montpellier, France on June 2022.
Montpellier is the capital of the Languedoc-Roussillon region in the Hérault department, southern France. Located on the Mediterranean coast on the River Lez, it is the fastest growing city in France with a population of 260,000 (a quarter of its citizens are students). Only 11 kms from the Mediterranean sea, it offers visitors a fascinating medieval city to explore and ranks among the most prestigious world heritage sites. Montpellier has a long university tradition with nearly 70,000 students living in the area.
Our guided walking tour is about 3.73 miles (6 km) long, starts at Comedy Square (Place de la Comedie) and covers most attractions and historic sites of Montpellier.

As someone knowing this city for years, I can tell you that this video is extremely well done ! The paths taken in the old streets are intelligently chosen in such a way taht you do not miss the most beautifull parts. It shows the planning and dedication in making a content of quality and I am really impressed. Bravo from Montpellier !

Did my engineer studies there for 3 years, loved the city so much. I need to go spend 1 week there, just to reconnect to my memories a bit.

Gonna add another comment. Looks like you'd never run out of café/restaurant choices. Seriously, that's a lot of places to eat. Love it.

It's a beautiful city. One day I may move from my current home near Bergerac/Bordeaux to Montpellier. Maybe trade a large rural old farm property for a city centre apartment.

Very nice video. Your resolution is fantastic and the filming is smooth, great work. Question: As a potential retirement destination, I'm trying to get a feel for overall safety in Montpellier. Lets say I were to have an apartment two, three or four blocks from this central area where you were filming, would my wife and I have a problem walking from the restaurants/bars at say 1 or 2AM? Even though my wife and I are in our 60's we're night owls, love the live music scene and the young people. Old people are a drag to hangout with. Thanks for your, or anyone else's reply

I know I'm late to your response, but I saw nobody responded, so I figured I'd offer my 2 cents. I stayed there for 2 months of the summer in 2023 and first of all, it's as beautiful to explore as this video shows (came here for some nostalgia actually.) Of anything it's more amazing. As for night life I didn't feel that threatened, but I am a healthy man in his 30s. Of anything there are several tram stations in highly visible areas, so the longer journeys home aren't too long. During some unrest last summer in fact, the chaos in Montpellier was almost nonexistent, contained to some loud mouths in a select location (I was a bit away enjoying the night life down town, so I only caught hear say). I say add it to your list to look deeper into. I know I'm going back to live there in a few years, may we meet and be merry should that be our fate!

At the 1:33:44 there's what looks like a kids treehouse, which I thought, wow that's great, a treehouse in a city. But then there were two more at the 1:33:00 mark and noticed they didn't have a ladder up to the platform so I'm guessing they're not tree houses for kids to play in but are there really huge birds in Montpelier that need that big of a birdhouse? Are there pterodactyls there? 😀
