  • In this video I will show you the three secret things that you need to look for in order to choose a really juicy lemon or lime at the grocery store.
I will also do a science experiment to demonstrate my theory on thin-skinned citrus fruit, and I will also show you how to cut lemons and limes into wedges!

I am loving your content, and am sharing them with my adult children. I practically live in my apron because my happy place is being busy in a kitchen. I would love to see you do a video on carrots. I learned from a friend of mine, who is an excellent cook, how to choose the sweetest carrots, and it is VERY counterintuitive. The larger and knarlier and lightest in weight the carrot is, the better. I learned this about 5 years ago, and you will see me at the local Latino market (they consistently offer the best carrots!) balancing carrots in my hands trying to find the lightest in weight, while being very large and knarly looking. Obviously I am not purchasing the bagged carrots. When you cut through it, the center is almost translucent and very sweet. Raw or roasted, these are absolutely delicious! Thanks for pumping out these great videos!

@FoodChainTV Of course. My local farmers market does not sell these kinds of carrots anymore. They say that people won't buy them. I suggested that they start letting people sample, and they would sell out every time! 👊

I wonder if the thinner skin is because of the ripening process?
I've always been taught to simply squeeze the lime to tell if it's ripe and therefore more juicy. It should have some give when you squeeze it. If it's firm when squeezing don't buy it. Limes don't ripen after being picked so it's important to choose correctly.

What about tap a tap a tap with the fork like with the orange , that doesn't help add to the juice? Growing up my grandma use to roll em before juicing them, what about that?? LOVE YOUR CHANNEL BY THE WAY! NEW Subscriber here!

Well, in order to compare juice amounts I wanted to do the same technique for both lemons. That was just to get an accurate result. But yes, to maximize the amount of juice, you can certainly roll them, or poke them with a fork. I appreciate your support!

Good to know but I rarely ever buy lemons or limes. My glands are drawing up just watching this.

If you put a lemon in the microwave for 45 seconds you get more juice when juicing.

Those lemons and limes look beautiful compared to the awful looking ones here in Ohio, ours look ready for the trash.

    • @FoodChainTV

Well as long as they're thin-skinned and heavy, they should be juicy.

@@FoodChainTV thank you for your reply, I appreciate it because they looked so awful that I wasn't sure if I should buy them or not. I love lemon water, so I buy lemons often.

Amazing demonstration. The fact that the heavier weight yields twice the juice was a big surprise. Thank you!
