6:50 great example of how just changing registers for sections can help shape the energy and add a sense of motion in what can otherwise be a repetitive part. Simple tool that nonetheless works in all kinds of contexts.
You didn’t say this explicitly, but I like the way the part came into shape through trial and error. I’ve always been in awe of the studio guys who can come up with a killer line immediately.
What's up JT! Glad you dug that, I wanted to let things come together organically to show how those little tiny tweaks can take you in new directions. Mannnn those studio cats are special. They've got such an incredible instinct for how to frame a track just right
@@KYLETEACHESBASSYT Have you done a video about using a pick vs finger style? I rarely use a pick and kinda suck at it. I play guitar, but the string spacing on the bass gives me trouble. Any advice would be helpful.
@JT96708 for me I think string spacing helps on bass a lot more. On guitar I constantly find myself picking the wrong string every time I play it but on bass it feels fine because strings are further apart, so more room for error lol.
Grateful that you are focusing here on writing originals using the bass to inspire the song's structure while combining how to discover unique and beautiful smile-worthy bass lines. A lot of great bass teachers on UA-cam don't talk much if at all about playing the bass to help write songs. A niche! Your communication skills are stellar, your bright enthusiasm gets through the camera and I enjoy your excellent bass playing. Very helpful! Great topic and great energy. Subscribed! Bravo❤
@@kentbyron7608 so much appreciated brother! Very glad to fill a bit of that niche, what better part of music than *creating it.* I'll keep the content coming, cheers!
Your playing is far more developed than mine is but seeing you coming with all different ideas, and all of them working with the flow, depending on which part of the fretboard you were sitting in, it's mindblowing to say the least. When you started playing on the E strings kinda like a "punk rock" band would do, I honestly thought you would be ending the bassline with some scale and a longer note (to fill the space I saw in the stems), the same kind of scales you used later on in the video to underline the root notes without always playing them. Chapeau!
@@vassili87 thanks for digging into this! Yes, it is crazy how these little tweaks can "put you on a path" with your bass lines. Hope this concept will give you a spark of inspiration! All the best brother!
@@patrickmurphy8210 thanks man! It's a Yamaha bb424x. They don't make that exact model anymore (the new ones look a bit different but are still really cool). It's a killin bass at $500!
This is just glowing with the joy of playing bass. All smiles, both sides of the screen.
The kind words are much appreciated! Hard not to be joyful playing bass! Thanks for watching and enjoying!
I really am enjoying how you let us watch you go through the thought process.
The process of creating bassline is so fun to watch. Do it more often please :)
Absolutely, more to come!

@@AJ-wh1tw Well said. Even making the video reminded me to be thinking about that simple tweak more often! Haha

Wow, this is a stellar lesson.
You have quite the gift for thinking through a great bassline.

Great vid, opens my eyes towards how much even little details can affect a bass line...Will be using this at rehearsal, thank you very much lol

Which albums did you use this technique on?
I thought it sounded pretty decent....would love to hear it without a pick to give a little warmer sound
It's really interesting to hear your thoughts
