  • Thank you so much for being here!
I love getting to know all of you so introduce yourself in the comments. If you're in the Eugene area and currently involved with vanlife, or are wanting to live this lifestyle, please email me Contact@mybasicjourney.com (: I'd love to talk!
This week I start my new job as a camp host! I wanted to show you guys an option for making money while you're on the road!
After uploading (from my phone which I never do), I noticed the sound is kind of whack. I'm sorry about this. I dont know whether it is my phone microphone, an issue with exporting, or an issue with uploading from my phone. Regardless, my apologies.
I also noticed that I forgot to add clips of the Shower/resort. I'll probably just make an entire video about it.
I really botched this one guys. Haha
Thanks to you guys (my subscribers and friends) again for being here. Subscribe for more (mini) VanLife content, as well as travel, adventure and becoming a digital nomad.
    xoxo

Love your channel. You can use a garden pump (like the one you used sanitizing the bathroom) as a shower. Paint it black and leave it in the sun. A hoolahoop with a shower curtain hung from a tree works as an enclosure. Not as good as the bath house, but free.

Tip...make sure there is NO shade on your solar panels as it reduces efficiency. Also try to place the panel perpendicular to the sun as much as possible...this means you need to adjust it frequently...like every hour or so. Happy camping!

@@MyBasicJourney I agree with the solar advice. Plus, I also have a 120W 3-fold panel (ACO). I can get mine to fit on my dashboard inside the car- it's big like a car shade. But the great thing is if you're parked toward the sun, you can leave it locked up in your car so that it charges your battery while you're away. Let me know if that works out for you. :)

    • @johnbergholm
      @johnbergholm 4 роки тому

D A that is a great suggestion and no doubt it works but at reduced efficiency. Auto glass is made to cut down on solar transmission to help keep the vehicle interior cooler. Perhaps you could just as well put it on the outside of the windshield (while stationary, of course) with the van facing into the sun.
Also, if you can afford it, Chantelle, perhaps you can connect a second panel to the first. I don’t know if there’s a mechanism for connecting multiple panels together but that would help speed up charging. I have two 100 watt rigid panels connected in parallel mounted on my van roof and they charge my power station at approx 20% per hour.

Here's a tip to help you with cleaning the toilets. Use "Pam" cooking oil on the inside of the toilet. Nothing sticks to it. I learned from another camp host. Have fun with your adventure!!!

Honestly, I would simply make friends at the resort, ask if you could make an appointment to talk with the manager, explain your battery charging ( overnight) and your shower needs and see if they might accommodate you for free as a professional courtesy.

Darlene Fitzgerald, in the east at Assateaque National Park, the dry campsites go for $30-50 a night but that are right on the beach. As a senior, I get 1/2 price.

Try not to forget ordering an off grid shower from WalMarts. I saw the small table on WalMarts or Amazon. I got my showering, these showers are online purchases too. May have to have it mailed to one near there. Enjoy the job, one will be collecting for the Park, the camping fees. Yet, it is still a free place to campout at with Joey. Have fun no matter what ! Our lives are meant to be lived. I know one doesn't read the comments too much. Been writing and putting in a little love into my letters! Let it happen from the heart today! Paul

Just a tip: when the manager brought the mop bucket for the bathroom, he/she also brought a clothes washing machine. When the power was out for weeks after a hurricane,I used my pro mop bucket and a plunger. Water, soap and clothes in the bucket, agitate with a tiny $ tree plunger, place clothes in wringer and wring out,. When finished, repeat with just fresh water to rinse. I also popped a tent up in the yard to hang my clothes inside, in case of rain. I agree with the guys about angling your solar panel. Place the end flap on the table, and use a piece of wood, like one of those logs at the bottom(behind the panel) to keep it angled. Longest exposure to sun is Facing South to South South West. That way you get the most time coverage while you go off to work on a site. Maybe if a you look into rapid charge cords for your phone, you can charge the phone on the way to the resort, or shopping. Also, adjust your upload schedule for days off at a Starbucks or wherever, in town. There are also very inexpensive solar battery packs that I use, like the patriot battery bank, but brand really doesn't matter. you leave them in the dash of your car and drain them nightly. some under $20 you could dedicate one to your USB fan, one to your phone or night lights, and recharge them all day www.amazon.com/s?k=solar+batterypack&ref=nb_sb_noss

Great 👍🏼 Info. Just a couple of thoughts. Really....a shower 🚿 at the “resort” daily or 4/per week should be included in your benefits. Also, the electric ⚡️ charging of your Jackary there also, secured, so you don’t have to be there; especially since you are required to do work on your laptop. Please pass this on to management. Coming from someone not involved they may take note.

Some kind of camp toilet is a must to make things more comfortable........a small cassette toilet is my choice. You can line it with a plastic bag 4 number 2 if you don't want to empty it, but they are designed 4 both. You can put fabric softener in it to brake down the solid waste and use septic-tank safe toilet paper and that's that.

Easy shower set up - bucket, iron hammer portable camp shower from Amazon, Ozark trail (or other brand) two room shower/changing tent, and your collapsible laundry basket. Heat up water, put it in the bucket and put that in the shower tent with the shower pump, then stand in the laundry basket to collect the grey water. You can put the bucket on a small table so the pump is in easy reach to turn on and off.

Loving your journey! I'm in Portland, and I'm currently a weekend warrior car camper. I'm saving for a minivan too! It would be so cool if a bunch of us following you could visit your campground throughout the summer.
You can clean the rust off your toaster thing real easy! I know this sounds crazy, but the tanins from black tea dissolve rust, it's how I clean all my garden tools. Just brew really strong concentrated tea in a container large enough to submerge your toaster, and let it soak for a day. Then the rust should scrub off. If the rust is REAL bad, you might have to do it twice. I get giant boxes of black tea from the dollar tree to use (but don't drink dollar tree tea, it's so full of pesticides!).
Enjoy your summer, I'll be here with you!

I came across your channel when I was looking for ideas on setting up my minivan for traveling. I loved your "Can Do" attitude and your determination to build your comfortable home by yourself. You have done an amazing job. I subscribed because of your adorable personality and your choice to just be real with your viewers, whether things were going good, or things were going bad, and personally, I wanted to see you succeed. I am so proud of you making the plunge and finding such an amazing job to start your basic journey. It is true that there are alot of things to figure out to make it all work for you, but I have every confidence that you will figure it out, just like you have done all along. I think some of your viewers see you as a sweet young "thang" who needs lots of advice in this big ol world, but if they watched all of your videos, from the beginning, they would realize how strong, capable and resilient you truly are. Good Luck to you, You've Got This, and thank you for sharing it all with us. (and to anyone who may read this comment, SHE HAS A SHOWER)!!!! 😂🤣🤣😂

Those wipes are great. You can also get a bucket or serving bowl and pour water in it. With a wash cloth you can take an old fashioned bath.

Sounds fun. I used to custodial work and I actually enjoyed it. I love cleaning and I love the solitude! I would love to live on the road in a mobile home/tiny home/van and make easy money. Great video. Looks like you have a great thing going. I LOVE Oregon!

Hi Chantelle, I watched your Being a Camp Host video initially as I was interested in that subject and I was immediately impressed with your positive outlook and fortitude! I was watching your video on my TV and actually went on my computer to find your channel so I could leave you a comment. That is when I saw your other video about being sober for 4 yrs. I have two daughters that are close to your age and I am so proud of you for reaching out to others that may be going through the same issues. I wish you all the best and look forward to following your van life journey on your channel. Joe
