How to Hang a Picture with no Wire and Two Hooks

- It really is this EASY! No Wire? No Problem. Sometimes art and framed pictures come with two hooks and no wire to hang it from. This video shows a simple technique to hang a picture without a wire and get it perfect and level without a lot of math and measuring.

Tool & Material List:
Level or straight edge with a small level
Masking tape
Tape Measure
Pencil
Some type of picture hook, nail or screw to hang the picture.
If you have a lighter picture like the art in this video, then you can use a nail or screw, if you have a heavier picture, then you will need some sort of stronger picture hanging hook.

You don't need a big level like in the video, you can use anything long and straight, even the top of the picture frame and then use a cheap torpedo level like this one amzn.to/1XVvwh3 to set the marks on the wall.
One problem: you are assuming the hooks are evenly spaced from the top of the frame. They often are not. So this technique will often result in a frame that does not hang level. If the hooks are off by 1/4" (vertically compared to each other) then the frame will hang 1/4" out of level. There needs to be some adjustment made to the vertical placement of the screws in the wall to account for that.
Worked like a charm 8 years later.
But….how do you keep the flippin hooks from dropping down as you try to place the painting? My fingers don’t fit behind the painting, and they flip down as I try to center the hooks over the nails.

Measure down from the top of your frame to verify first.

Very helpful video - thanks? Why didn’t you use anchors? I presume the bike art is fairly lightweight and there are no studs where you put the screws into the wall. What’s the determining factor for whether you use anchors?
the picture i hung was super light so an anchor was not needed to hold the weight, also the mounting rings were on the edges so if a normal anchor was used, it would have pushed the picture away from the wall. I wanted to keep it as flush as possible.
What if the hooks are in the middle of the art and it's long instead of wide? Use wire? Thanks. I know this is old. Hopefully you'll get this question.

I used a device called a level no batteries needed to mine out of the side of a quarry and no batteries to fail in the near future .

This works ONLy if your hooks on the painting are level ; which they never are.
What if your painting is much longer than the level you have?
What if the hooks were attached farther down on the picture, how would you mark it

mark a center line on wall at top of where you want the art, measure down how far the hooks are on the art, then measure down the center line on wall that amount and use that mark as your level point.
Why do you use screws and not nails? Do you need to find the stud?
I was ok with screws and no studs because what I am hanging is very light... if you are dealing with something heavy with glass.. you'd want to use a type of picture hanging hook

those hooks are never level with each other.
I asked for help to fit a mirror without any hooks loops or fittings on the back... This does not help. I'll go to DIY shop for brackets myself.
You assume the hooks are level on the picture which is rare.
