This is a good example of what a cover song should be: a proper reinterpretation. Gloria’s version was sung with hot tempered defiance and anger, as in “ill survive, you motherfxxer, I’ll kill you”. Cakes versions is sung with a peaceful confident calm and a gentle smile, as in, “You know what, despite all the hardship, I’m ok. Life is not too bad. I will survive.”
One of those bands with a unique sound that could NEVER be confused for anyone else.
