For some reason, the majority of engines based at Bressingham are all mostly not well known or all be it forgotten about in preservation. Yet, so many unique and special engines reside there: a little Green B4, the only surviving LT&S engine which is one of the originals in the National Collection, this engine, and ANOTHER Great Eastern engine, and most surprisingly the last standard gauge Garrett in the country! Not to mention their locomotives from overseas...
It would be nice for her to be shown along side the J15/Y14 while the latter is still in GER Blue as well at least...
Adrian Brown if I had a few Million, I would not only steam the 2 GER engines at bressingham, but also restore and covert the other 5 surving GER designed locos, which are either in the wrong livery, wrong condition, not in steam ect. Then I'd have a big GER running day At the North Norfolk railway. That would include the B12,J15,E4,J17,J69,N7 and the Y5... We can all dream, can't we :D
At least she has GER 87 sitting next to her, her being in GER blue as well :)
Come on lads, let’s make this loco well known!
A number were also trialled over the Stainmore route, and fitted with all weather cabs
A fine old engine, and one I learned about thanks to the Railway Roundabout.
P.S. Nice timing on the release of this one. I was in the middle of dinner when I saw it. Railway facts with mashed potatoes, lovely.
amazing new Sole Slip Chris!
Flying Thistle Studios i love late victorian- edwardian engines
that is why i do that period of time
One of my favourite Great Eastern steam loco's if only NNR would take her to re-steam her
such a lovely loco Shame that she is not that well known!
a real shame such a lovely loco. seems to be the norm with Bressingham locos get forgotten about
I can't get enough of GER locos. They have nice designs and a gorgeous livery.
Also aren't there 3 GER tender engines: J15, G58 & T26?
Correct, but J15s (or GER Y14 Class) were designed by Thomas William Worsdell, not James Holden. That's what Chris meant in the video.
I love this locomotive, this one in particular ran on the branch line that use to go through my village. Though the line closed 20 years before I was born it still holds a place in my heart. I'm glad there are others who know her.
I think one interesting locomotive would be the E5 Tenant Engine. Considering the history as to why the class was built could make for an interesting conversation piece. But that's just me.
Many locos have never ran since retirement from simple switchers (shunters) to even (as of the time of this comment) the UP big boys! So it is always interesting to see these locos which when they do run they will be one of a kind and would make sound that have never been heard in ages
Matt you watch Chris too? Awesome! He's my favorite British rail enthusiast on UA-cam.
Well well this comment aged like fine wine
I've seen her
i saw in a model railway book from 1976 by Patrick Whitehouse
Chris, have you ever thought about talking about one of Scotlands engines? Like GNSR 49, or Highland Railway 103?
Sorry, but you got the wrong sort of whistle (LNER Group Standard whistle sound clip was used)!
The E4's were the mixed-traffic counterpart of the J15's (Y14's), and as such, they shared the same Johnson-T. Worsdell-J. Holden whistle used on older Great Eastern locos. After J Holden's retirement, a slightly higher toned whistle (same as the LSWR's, only a little sharper) was used on later designs, such as the N7's, rebuilt Clauds, Y4's, and B12's. Speaking of whistles, did the J17's have the same whistle as the J15's, or did they have the same whistle as the N7's?
Remind me not to invite you out for dinner
Sorry mate, I was just curious.
Genuinely interested, can one obtain the designs for GER whistles?
Added good atmosphere though.
Are Sole Slips included on any of the DVDs?
For some engines, I can understand why they haven't run since retirement. But why this Intermediate? Far as I know, she's similar in style to many small preserved engines (power class 3 or lower), and she's definitely the younger than Midland 158A.
Bressingham's funny like that; it took literally YEARS of negotiation to get them to agree to restoring Oliver Cromwell to mainline running condition.
David Abramczyk not only do you have to convince bressingham, but also the National Railway Museum, who own the engine, and having personally asked them about the possible return to steam, I got given the reply that she was not a priority and would only happen if somebody else paid for it.
if only I won the lottery......
Bressingham's not what it was. It's a shame Oliver Cromwell went, it worked in Norfolk most of its life, and they have a great line for footplate rides. Had you been before filming the engines there Chris?
WOW a E4, Railway Round about Loco
someone should restore her to operate on heritage railways and I'd also like to say this engine can be restored with the right amount of money.

She needs to get out more.
i know people will tell me otherwise but its possible to restore this wonderful survivor to operation
Tedthetrain productions it is, the National Railway Museum told me so!
Only if someone else paid for it though...
I'm confused. What's the other James Holden GER tender engine?
Is it the Y14?
This model of the T26 is a Midland Railway 1305 class 2-4-0 in SDJR livery.
