  • This is the second day of my camping trip, I found a few nice agates some interesting jaspers and overall had a nice day out on the creek. I will be doing some more traveling in the north soon, still waiting on the wildfires down south before i can travel that way. Thanks for all your support and I appreciate you taking your time to watch my content!! we've almost reached 850 subs!! The channel has been picking up some traction lately and I will do my best to keep uploading better videos as I go🙂

    8:50 I'm quite confident that's petrified wood. Nice finds!

    Those common opals are such a good finds. Me and my mom have been agate hunting for about a year and a half and we now have a jar full, some of them are so big and clear and we found some pretty good vivid red jaspers! My dream is to find an opal, just one little opal and oh boy I’ll be jumping for joy 😆 BC is such a lovely place to go rock hounding

    Great job!. Sad that people call it common opal. The common part makes people think that its just a boring rock or mineral, but mother nature worked her ass off to make those so beautiful. . I love your finds. Good job!

      For sure!! It comes in so many colors and polishes up beautifully!! The bright blue piece should make some awesome jewelry, I've been saving it for when I have the perfect project idea!!😁

    I might get killed someday with my approach....but I'm walking onto properties and asking the owners if I might wade into their streams to look for rocks. I've not been turned down yet and I've made a friend or two.
    Plus I get a lot of questions and I get to teach what I know about the local geology...and their rocks. You might surprised to know how curious some people are about their rocks.
    We have tons of streams around Spokane...but most of it is private. Those streams aren't picked. I found a grand hunk of red and brown brecciated jasper in this Russian guy's stream. We had an hour and a half of conversation. He was living there 20 years staring at this one boulder and seeing all the chalcopyrite. I told him it was just copper/iron sulfides and he almost seemed relieved.

      As long as you ask you should be fine, Most people are pretty kind as long as you hound responsibly. Not to many people are into rocks around here so when I do meet somebody who is it makes for a good day no matter the finds, I think it's great that you are bringing it to the people and teaching them the way of the rockhounds😃

      I really need to explore some of the forest service roads around there!! There are some precious opal claims not too far from this spot so hopefully if I can find the source of the common opal I can find some precious opal too!!

    Love that large common opal you found. It would make some nice cabs for sure. I'm in Toronto, wish I was in BC.
    With agate, opal, garnet alone I could be a real happy man.

      There's always something to find, minerals can form in the strangest places!! I've seen agate in metamorphic rock and garnets in sedimentary rock so you just never know. Honestly I don't know too much about the geology of Toronto, definitely something I'll have to look into🙂

    Wow! What an amazing variety of beauty on this trip. Great to see the animals❤ Love the blue and green common opal! So cool! We only have white here, usually on and in some agates. I saw brown common opal on Rookie Rockhounding's channel too, but that blue and green are gorgeous! Love the agates, nice banding and colors, and of course the jaspers too. Jasper is one of my favorites. Thanks for taking us along!✌🤠

      @@NWRockExplorer one of the question i have, how to distinguish chert and jasper especially red chert? and is there a way to polish the chert or this rock is too soft?

    • @NWRockExplorer
      @NWRockExplorer  3 роки тому

      @@denisshavaliev1849 Well, I don't think there is a clear answer to this question. I would start with the surrounding rock.
      chert is a marine sedimentary rock so it generally forms in limestone or in layers between marine sediments.
      Jasper is made of volcanic sediments such as ash that has been saturated by chalcedony with hydrothermal fluids.

    • @NWRockExplorer
      @NWRockExplorer  3 роки тому

      Chert is easiest to identify in hard rock. If you find chert or jasper together in a creek or gravel bar it can be very hard to tell the difference. The best thing you can do when looking for chert in alluvial deposits is to familiarize yourself with any patterns, colors, or sometimes the hardness when you see it in the hardrock. Use those characteristics to find similarities and identify the chert in the local creeks or rivers🙂

      I haven't found any yet myself, most of it is found in the Fraser River or on Vancouver island in the southern parts of the province. It could form somewhere up near me too though, it is just a form or porphyry and there's porphyry everywhere up here.🙂

    hey i know im a little late here but im into rock collecting and i was wondering where do you know where to go to find this kind of stuff? any old creek?

    • @NWRockExplorer
      @NWRockExplorer  Рік тому

      No problem!! All of the stones in this video are formed in areas with volcanic rock. Not all volcanic rock contains these stones though so its really up to exploration and researching known deposits and exploring areas that are in the same geological formation. If you have geological maps of your area, they can be super helpful to find those areas that have potential. Just starting out it would be good to meet up with a rock club if there are any in your area. They can be a great way to get information on what can be found where you live and possibly find mentors to learn from. If there aren't any rock clubs in your area there are some great groups for rockhounds on Facebook where you can share pics if you need help identifying stones or just want to share your finds. That's how I started!!🙂
