Just remember "family of color"! That's why so many of your things work so well together. Your rug is truly a neutral, but with pattern. Also, things like your lanterns (somebody loves you a lot to gift this wonderful find) are their own element and the way you chose to hang them makes them all the more special! As to your flower choices, it's your house and if they always give you pleasure, they work. I heard a long time ago that if you love it, it works!! So truly enjoy what you have created. Oh, and does the husband have a brother???
You’re right! It’s easy to get caught up in the world of everyone curating their homes to fit a very specific style and I just can’t do that. I like what I like and if they go together, great. If not then it doesn’t matter. And no he doesn’t 🤭
I just learned this: Put some rocks in the birdbath, they need it to be pretty shallow. You can have varying heights by differing rock sizes. Wildlife watering spot. Your husband's brain is excellent!!
For the grey poles, you can do what the "Stone Cottage Home" channel did with theirs in their recent patio makeover, they got 2 fence boards and put them at an angle so that they covered the poles and drilled them into the fence. It ended up giving them a more custom look and covered the ugly grey! Hope this helps! I love how it turned out, especially the marbles in the fence, I never would have thought of that! I've been wanting to add whimsy to my patio as well even though my usual style is neutral English country cottage.
Oh wow! Thank you for the recommendation ❤️ I haven’t done much research into disguising the poles at all! They are quite an eye sore 😣 but I just chose to block them out of my mind haha! I hope this video helps to inspire you and maybe you can figure a way to add whimsy to your English country style
@@shelbyscottage I saw the video from "Stone Cottage Home" also and when I saw your metal poles, I thought of that solution they used. The poles are too distracting and take away from the vibe your trying to create. Your backyard is enchanting. I especially like the little containers of water for the insects & birds
I’m so glad I was directed to this video. I’ve already talked to my husband and asked him to get me the materials. They are incredibly distracting 😅 buuuut I wasn’t going to let that stop me from making something pretty of this space 💜
I love Portulacas, I never planted them in the ground only in pots, and, to my amazement, last yr. I saw them in the ground everywhere, front & back gardens. They are so pretty and bloom all summer. I live in WI and we have a short growing season. I'm crossing my fingers and hope they come back again.
Ooh! So maybe they aren’t annuals? I remember nursing some in pots during winter seasons and they made it a few years but that’s with bringing them inside. So far… no growth in the ground yet. 🤷♀️ Maybe by some miracle they’ll start to but who knows?! I’ve seen a few people say they are perfect to go in between cracks in the concrete and stepping stones.
@@shelbyscottage Yes, they are annuals, especially in a colder climate. But they came back, I mean a lot. Almost in every garden. I love all the colors. I also had volunteer Pansies, all over the place. I'm new to gardening only my 3rd yr. It's fun!
I am the same way. I let the garden let it grow the way it wants to grow. I even do my food garden the same way that’s why I have plans where they shouldn’t be but they’re happy there so I leave them alone eventually I’ll have a food for us where I just go out and pick food to eat and don’t have to do anything because it’s where it wants to be and it’s happy. The same with the flowers I leave them alone and you never know what’s going to come up and where they receive themselves in my garden and the bulbs multiply but I am so happy with how the results is.
Everything looks beautiful and I love your imagination!! Just an FYI - NOT a criticism but to let you know (as you said you were new to gardening) you should never move a plant while it's blooming and iris plants should be planted very shallowly with the top of the root just under the soil. They are best moved in fall or very early spring and the leaves cut to just about 5" tall. Good luck on the gardening journey - I can't wait to see how everything turns out!!
😅 When I was separating the irises from the group I realized I picked one that was already blooming but decided to just go with it. Definitely a mistake but not a biggie for me. You're definitely right about when in the year to plant them. When we first moved into this house it was about June-July and I just took them from the ground at our old place and stuck them in the ground here and they have been so hardy so far! Thank you so much for the feedback and for watching!
Shelby, your garden/patio space is so very nice! I love the marbles in the fence. And actually, your cushions match perfectly....that green and blue sun pulls it all together...the green in the umbrella and the blue in the cushions!! And...your husband's idea is perfect for using the cushions. The whole space is so inviting and absolutely relaxing! I love all your whimsical pieces....well done!!
I love this makeover! You have really changed the space. Boho allows for mixed fabrics etc and with whimsy adddd it's perfect. I love the lanterns and the marbles totally work!
Love that you painted the perfectly good and lovely patio set. Having those multiplying Iris are such a great addition to the garden. I may have to try some, now that you said they do that. The marbles in the fence is such a unique look. And the gifted lanterns must be stunning at night.. You definitely have an eclectic style , with a great mix of colors . As for the ugly white table... your words not mine... Just paint it in a nice blue for a pop of color and cohesiveness with the cushions. It all turned out great , and will only look better as it matures .
Thank you so much for your kind words! I have gone back and forth on the table, I just recently put it out there when a few friends came over and we needed a little extra space and I can’t decide if I want the elements to just finally take it and then buy something new or paint it. But with the idea of painting it a beautiful blue, I can see holding onto it a little longer 😃
Love the marbles in the fence and the way the light shines through them. The stained glass lanterns tie the marbles in and add such cozy ambient lighting for evenings. Feeling inspired for my own current garden project. Thanks for the creative ideas!
