the one we eat for 50-60rs is just desi version and they mix the chicken with soo many veggies that there is no taste of chicken in desi shawarma.

shwarma looks like a sub wrap only in it's true essence but since market here has been flooded with chicken wraps named as shwarma people feel that true shwarma is like a roti wrap and subway type wrap . It looks like subway wrap because pita bread is more fluffier than roti and has certain width, plus the hummus adds more density to wrap along with overload of meat.

Only the plain Shawarma that you had is close to what a Shawarma should be. Other ones are Shawarma filled Kathi roll and burritos! Authentic Shawarma uses "Toum" which is garlic sauce and not Mayonnaise. The one with hummus is called a "Doner" not Shawarma. Ice berg lettuce in Shawarma? What is that a Taco? Terrible toppings for a place with so much hype
