Only thing that bugs me about this is that the ending came out of nowhere. It doesn't *feel* over, but the credits are rolling, so I guess it is. Otherwise, great video with a lot of new insight about both titles. I can always count on you to put a completely different lens on something I've heard a lot of other people talk about.
Why was hey arnold on that list? Its main characters,and most of the supporting characters, young and old, were not in high school at all. Kinda strange seeing that there. O.o
I have always felt high school is a clustered setting in media. Mostly because of the vast amount of storiest told around it. And I think I dislike the escapism of high school eastern media portrays, and the Hollywood's genaric representation of the time. But I think we are getting better at making media around this setting. Especially with the examples your talking about Satch. Anywho, hope whoever reads this comment has an excellent day!
Interesting I thought the constant abandonment of friends throughout the narrative never led to any actual consequences for Peter. In fact most are pretty forgiving his closest friend Liz who is the romantic interest of the movie is left alone to dance by herself at the prom. Only for him to meet her at the in the movie where a father's imprisonment takes up the most of her concern allowing Peter to essentially get off scot-free.
Android Apex I don’t think that’s true though. Peter cared about Liz, and she was clearly really hurt by what he did. There weren’t tangible consequences, sure, but they cared for each other, and their relationship not happening is a direct result of Peter choosing to be Spider-Man.
Have you played the Life is Strange series? It and Oxenfree ended up releasing in close proximity to each other - I wonder if 2015/2016 was a cultural moment where high-school-focused video games started being realized. (Just long enough for the adventure formula to find a new rhythm, allowing developers to tell non-traditional stories, maybe?) The original Life is Strange is certainly my favorite high school video game, and I'd love to hear what you think about it.
