    I keep thinking about this. The switch from going through the motions, the mundanity, the every day shit - even if it's almost comical (catching the chicken) to associating everything with someone or something, just that switch that flicks whether you want it to or not, is conveyed so well here. So well done. Fuck man. gonna be on my mind for a while.

      Jason Lee cinema covenant is the podcast he started I think it's still going but I haven't checked in months, and I recently seen a video where Seth was talking about a new project he's in, all I remember about it was that the project was a video game by Zoe Quinn and he's doing the music for it.

    Really well done. I think some of the shots could have been a little more thought out (e.g. the chicken coop with the main characters head and tons of open space.) other than that the lake shots were amazing and sound and lighting fit everything going on.
    Great idea for the film and well made one at that.

  • @ryashock
    @ryashock 7 років тому +34

    Some of the sound design/foley was mixed a little weird. Other than that it's a solid, candid story about a sorta selfish guy who wants to rid himself of an object he set an emotional moment to. Pretty realistic! Y'all did a good job.

    • @Kowzorz
      @Kowzorz 7 років тому +5

    • @edb1322

      Ryan Schell Interesting that selfish is the word you're using to describe him. I guess any breakup is selfish, and the being the nature of them, when you're in them you don't tend to think of them as such, but yeah they definitely are. Even watching it I just kind of identified with what he was going through, but calling it selfish is kind of changing my perspective on it.

    • @hibiscusman
      @hibiscusman 7 років тому +1

      Totally disagree, thought the sound design was spot on for the tone and style. Felt like the only reason I could distinguish the Foley stuff was my own experience creating it. There were two small parts where it was slightly off with the visual action (some footsteps and car noises) but they were brief and not distracting.

    Loved it was very great piece of work. I look forward to what you will make next. Just some critiques I have for you. The sound effects were too noticeable, and would sometimes feel out of place. The seat belt for example, why not just go with the natural sound from the footage? The reel and the click just didn't seem to fit same goes for the steps as he goes outside for the first time, it sounded like it came from a video game or like stock sound. Those are the only critiques I have for you, everything else was very well done, it comes all together afterwards all very well. The flashing memories that haunt him in every place he goes, him checking his phone as he wake to possibly see if "she" has texted or called. Him so hurt by the pain that radiates from the pine cone, something at first he thought as very darling and a great gift. Now all he can think of is her when he looks at it, very relatable good job.

    I enjoyed it. As others have mentioned, more. Please more.
    But if I could make a criticism that kinda got to me: living in the same general area (actually very close to New Milford in Bergen County), the ambiance was a bit off. On a day like this, you're not going to hear that many birds chirping. Maybe one or two, and one of them will definitely be a crow (and props to ya for throwing in the crow sound), but not the spring-summer sounds. In addition to that, I'm pretty sure I heard a quiet buzz-hum of cicadas as part of that same track. While cicadas may sometimes show up in spring, and wintry days can happen in the spring of any states between NJ-MA (where the film is supposed to be set, I think [the thing about the police report from NJ threw me off]), the chances of hearing cicadas on a wintry day is extremely slim.
    You're a good sound guy. You know your stuff, and I believe in you.

    • @dancingfishfilms
      @dancingfishfilms 7 років тому +6

      maybe the fact this it's now winter but he hears spring/summer represents that he is still stuck in the memories and living with one foot in the past

    • @NoWhereToRun22
      @NoWhereToRun22 7 років тому

      jellyberg That's something I thought, too. Considering the birds stop when the snow starts, it makes sense in that it's a little easier to live in a dream-like stupor until something concrete and physical shakes you out of it (like the cold/cold stuff falling from the sky). Still, the memeory he seems to be most attached to (that we can see) happens to be from Christmas.

  • @MK.5198
    @MK.5198 7 років тому

    Solid work! Nothing incredible really, but a very good start.
    Only major crit would be the folley work that you didn't do. The seatbelt clicking is a pistol dry firing, and the footsteps on grass at 2:17 were too loud, didn't feel right.
    Oh and some shot continuity at the end. audibly raining in one, cut to quiet snow fall, cut back to rain again. That sort of thing is excusable considering how cheaply this was probably all filmed and edited for, though.
    But the shot editing and camera work were all pretty good. The chicken chase scene was well put together, and all your intercuts were put to good use.
    Also the argument being over sailor moon is. Hilariously real. almost sad you didn't let us hear that in the film.

      Interpret your own payoff. Was it the ex-girlfriend who "used to own one of these?" And is willing to work things out? Or was it a totally different girl who he may form a new relationship with? Does being awoken at the end represent snapping out of his depression? Good art leaves you with questions and let's you come to your own conclusion.

    Pros Review - Good work with the breathing during the memory scenes to frame and connect them. Letting the audience walk away with the obvious conclusion was better than playing it out. Everyone likes fat bearded guys and pretty women. weather transition is cool. Guy is visually depressed
    Bad Bad Review - There were two white people a cat and chickens in this film. Chickens are represented but not people of color...
