Your comment about this kind of thinking being “short term keep the lights on” really rings true. You see that thinking in the home, it’s no wonder it crossed to the church.

I hope somebody talks to the baptist brother about the cultural effects of dividing children from their parents in the church.

I'd be interested if you have specific examples of Crossway being squishy.

I think the more fundamental problem is that evangelical educational institutions, by and large, replaced philosophy with biblicalism. By this I mean replacing the required study of metaphysics and moral philosophy with biblical worldview analysis. The latter is content to critique non-Christian worldviews from a Christian worldview and biblical proof-texts. This type of study is not bad in itself, but it is an inadequate and shallow replacement for the study of philosophy from a Christian perspective. The early reformers seemed to have no problem embracing the philosophical achievements of the scholastics, without accepting RCC theology. That strikes me as the right approach. Why did evangelicals ever abandon it? One modest suggestion for turning the tide: Why don't schools in the CCCU start requiring a sequence of philosophy courses in their core curriculum. Of course, it would need to be the right sort of philosophy courses. I would advocate a generally Thomist perspective.

The comments about the lay people in the PCA leading the leaders on the revioce issue is interesting to me. For some time I have been concerned about the quality of church leadership. Until recent times, church leaders were the most educated in society. Now everyone goes to college and many of the best minds go into fields like Medicine, Law, engineering etc. many of our Church leaders floundered in liberal arts or youth ministry majors. Youth ministers do their 10 years then start looking for a senior pastorate. This seems to select, in general, for the least competent of us to lead the Church. I don’t mean to be harsh and I acknowledge this is a generalization. But I have seen the pattern repeatedly.

How sure are we that the sponsor, Private Family Banking, can be trusted in their practices? My intuition could be off, but it seems like it might just be an Infinite Banking / whole life ripoff where fees are high and rate of return is capped at low rates that underperform. Have y’all vetted them before accepting them as a sponsor? Thanks!
