I have been involved in the sport of high school wrestling for many years, as a wrestler, as an official, and now as a fan. I do not understand what this referee did. Hands to the face? Perhaps...
I rewatched the video and did see one instance of hands to the face, but my question is this: why did the ref not assess the penalty the moment it happened? Why did he wait until the end of the period to assess the penalty and DQ the wrestler in the blue singlet? From my point of view, he was being the most aggressive wrestler, attempting several single leg takedowns, and his opponent did mostly countering the attacks. I believe this was a poor job of officiating.
Wtf is this. That young man was doing what you call wrestling. Hand fighting whatever. Nothing at all wrong with anything he did. This ignorant ref shouldn’t be on a mat ever.
Literally there was nothing illegal to Warren a disqualification. They were both in the neutral position and while both weren’t really doing that much they were still on occasions going for shots. There was no punches thrown no nothing. The only thing I could say is that they possibly both were stalling but in that sense in the neutral position it’s kind of hard to call that since neither one of them are really doing that much. But even with stalling it doesn’t warrant a disqualification it would just be you get a couple of points if you keep doing it. This has to be the worst officiating I’ve ever seen from a rough. And in my days of wrestling in high school I’ve seen some pretty terrible calls.
