Best team. And you got flexibility to change it up later in game if you wanna do like for like Palmer for Foden or Gordon for Eze. Or even go with 2 Strikers/1 CAM & 2 CDM pivots.

This formation is a disaster waiting to happen. Rice is not a number 6 and Saka is not a wing back, this won't work. It creates just as many problems as it solves. In reality the best team England can field will not have all it's big players. England will need to make some tough decisions about who starts, and who comes on as subs because you cannot get all the best players on at once, and trying to do so cripples the team tactically.
Southgate picked an awful squad tactically hoping throwing every good player on at once would be the solution. Now we have issues because without really decent full backs able to play in the half space and wide positions when the wide forwards move around means we cannot really break down defenses. Also, we have a number 8 and 10 problem with too many players trying to play in those positions Rice, Foden, Kane, and Bellingham all want to be in these central positions, so no one is able to make the runs and movement to create gaps in these areas. Not only that the one deep midfielder who can be progressive quickly hasn't even played in Wharton.
The best first team you could probably play with the current squad, suspensions and injuries will probably be with possible subs:
Gordon - Toney (Watkins)- Kane - Palmer (Saka)
Bellingham (Foden) - Wharton (Rice)
Shaw (Eze) - Konsa - Stones - Walker (TAA)
At least like this there are overlaps, width, uncongested mid-field, progressive elements between parts of the pitch, and players who can swap into different roles if rotation and pressing is needed. Toney can stay furthest up if Kane wants to drop deep, or allow him to play off him if he wants to go forward. Stones can carry the ball into midfield, or fill in for a midfielder if they step up. Wharton can ping balls immediately for transition plays. It allow everyone to find space and help plug holes if needed.
That what I would do, Southgate will do this...

Guehi - Stones - Walker

People shout for him to be tactically flexible, then when there's talk of him going 3 at the back, which they've done so many times before and got to the final of the last euros, and all of a sudden it's rip it up and start again.

It doesn't matter if they know, if anything, it'll throw any expectations they had from the outset out the window, and they'll be considering how they'd potentially adapt. Getting the Swiss thinking about anything other than what they would have expected isn't a bad thing.

@@foundation6867 Italy weren't even in form. Even people who supported Italy said they were a poor side in this tournament. Either Germany and Spain are the ones we should worry about, but they'll be worn down by the time we face either one of them in the finals.
As I said, the Swiss couldn't beat Scotland and got lucky with a draw with Germany.
Have more faith in our team, they're truly capable of winning this tournament.

Mark Guehi was considered the biggest concern for the defense before the tournament starts. All of a sudden he became the most important component of the defense after a few games.

I still can't understand it all. We have played poor in 4 games.. yes we are through, but our midfield has been bang average yet a player that is a complete different midfielder to what we keep playing can't get a minute. I'd be seriously disappointed if I was wharton.

AT least Southgate has learned the lessons from Sven who didn't even consider playing a 3 5 2 system which would have immediately solved the Gerrard Lampard problem and the fortune's of that England team by playing Gerrard in the holding role with Scholes and Lampard in front by now playing Foden in his natural NO 10 position and playing Bellingham just behind Kane. I genuinely now think we will now see the beat of this England team in the same way we would have seen the best of that Golden generation had they played in 3 5 2 system in 2004 and 2006

Trippier was gassed in December and has looked out of it, Mitchell was in form and wasn't picked. Loftus-Cheek at Ac Milan has been class and would be the ball playing player next to Rice but was overlooked and Tomori plays champions league every year and isn't looked at even Dunk gets in over him whose been average. Foden and Saka have been poor all tournament and so has Kane, Toney comes on and makes things happen same as Eze.
Lady luck has been our extra (and best) player so far in each game.

what a mistake to bring shaw when Branthwait was available, just a non player whereas at least branthwait is fit ready & good.
Doesn't matter what the back line is, they'll have 70% possession between them, strolling about old men playing walking football and kicking it sideways and backwards, even if 1-0 down at the time, then we'll panic with 5 minutes to go and throw subs on to try to rescue it.

Why is no one calling out Foden? He has so little impact for England it's amazing for me that he starts each time. Anyone ever remember Foden making something happen for England? I think he's a great player but be fails to inspire and I think he maybe doesn't have the big time character of a Bellingham or even someone like Palmer
