Amelia witnessed her father’s murder with Derek when she was 5 and while she was incredibly traumatized it isn’t the only thing that messed her up badly. Her mother was also incredibly broken by his murder and never treated Amelia the way Amelia felt she deserved. She treated Amelia almost like the black sheep because she didn’t fit in with the family the way her older sisters and Derek did. The two of those together massively had her turn to drugs.

And if she knew and was understanding about addiction been a sickness, why refuse helping someone close to Amelia? Simple, selfishness. I never liked Sam, he was a dick for the sake of being a dick. He never seems to learn from new experiences, he decided to bully and mistreat his future grandaughter/son poorly, just because he was angry. So him being selfish in this episode doesnt surprise me; nor Addison being selfish aswell. She testified agaisnt Violet, when she was having a relationship with Pete just beacuse Lucas would make her feel like a mother. SHE TRIED TO TAKE A BABY BOY FROM SOMEONE ELSE. That is being selfish.

This story was told on greys anatomy but when Amelia and her older brother Derek were little 2 men came into a store they were at and robbed it. Her father was there and they forced him to give them everything he had. And he complied but he didn’t want to give up the watch because it was a gift from his wife. So they shot and killed him infront of both Amelia and Derek and left. She gave that man the watch her father died for
