Just don't forget to collect any ExRefs, Fonts (.shx), or any other data that may be a main factor in your final display. Radical Purge is another effective tool outside of the standard PURGE command for reducing file sizes. But, this is still one of the most effective when reducing file size of a current drawing. He has alot of great videos to shed light on tricks and best practices for beginner to advanced users. Thanks again as always for the videos.
A new video you could do I think would gain attention is imagery and best practice for inserting, attaching, importing or embedded. Most states have free map data and of course there are the pay sites. Just depends. The old zoom in to Google earth imagery and take smaller sections and mosaic them into your drawing is def one that most don't use. It takes a little work depending on the area, but the final product is rewarding knowing that the resolution can hang with the paid imagery sites. There are tricks as well to give that really good sharpness. Tricks like SuperHatch where the grass looks as real as it does on your front lawn. Take care.

hello i have done almost everything to reduce the file size of a drg but still nothing worked. I have used wblock, purge, audit, overkill,layerdel still my file size is not reduced

Nice trick... But what about layouts which are not reflected in a New DWG file, this is why the file size goes down.
This method usually use for making separate drawing from existing one. But appreciate your effort... Thanks.

I've just tried it, and YES it reduces the file size BUT it deletes all the drawing tabs with viewport, hence that's why it reduces the size. It only keeps what is in MODEL SPACE. Treat with extreme care!!

save in to dxf format then go to open a new file +drawing utilityes + recover+ show the path + wait..........+ the purge and audit you will get small size file ................... then save to dwg format (one imoportent thing we lost the ole object in this case)

Am working as A designer my vendor asking autocad file soft copy i am not interested to give soft copy so can you help me how to give him softcopy which he cannot use that copy and can’t Modifie. As use pdf to autocad but useless. So give you give any good options to save my soft copy.

You can copy the file , open a new drawing and paste it in a new file . Save that drawing and check the file size .

Sir,When we use extrude command in 3d
then how to do Mode option is set to Surface mode permanently ?
Default setting is always set in solid mode but i want to convert default setting into surface mode.
So that I can extrude the surface, without choose mode option.
Very effective trick but when I open the reduced file all the viewport on layouts were gone. Is there anything else i can do to avoid this?

wblock operation rejected due to a proxy object that does not allow copying. Mins?
My file size is 109mb, I tried to reduce file size by using WBlock comment, my file reduced from 109 to 104 mb only, and i have tried the various methods to reduce it but no use.
Another option.
1 . Dwg file save as to dxf file
2 . Close dxf file with out save
3 . Open dxf file from your storage location.
4. Just save (automatically save to dwg ).
5. Use purg command for earse all unwanted layers & objects.

How to teduce file size in autocad 2007 version?
File size is reduced but the drawing is converted into block ,How do i do if i want to edit or add or modify the drawing, Do i have to explode all?
When you create a WBLOCK , you actually create a drawing (not a block) which can be opened the way you open any other drawing file

I always saved my dwg in Acad 2000 format. Had a few jobs where the file size was 79mb! So huge!! I tried all these different advice videos to reduce the file size and nothing much happened. I THEN TRIED TO SAVE AT ACAD 2018 FORMAT AND FILE DROPPED TO 8MB WITHOUT DOING A THING! Then Windows zipped it down to 3mb! Moral SAVE to the newest ACAD FORMAT if you can.
Hi, if you are using the latest version of autocad, at least version higher than 2013, make sure you run "purge" to clear anything that are unwanted. I have experience using autocad 2013, which have problem regarding If I use windows "copy" command which is the ctrl + c to copy object from other autocad drawing to target autocad drawing, it may copy unwanted stuff causing the autocad file bigger and bigger(this is bug that cause by autocad during the process of copy). Autocad version more than 2013 may not have this problem. But always run purge to clear unwanted things always help in reduce file size, make sure "zero-length geometry" and "orphaned data" to be selected during run the "purge" command.
Also, I believe that saving autocad drawing to higher version do help in reduce file size, the above just some problem that I have encountered may fit your situation.
Extra note: if you are using autocad version 2013, the purge command will not help in reduce file size that related with the problem that I mentioned. Autocad version 2013 "purge" command do not have the function to solve that issue, the "purge" command have been improved in later on version.

your idea is fine but there is another easy way instead
purge command, remove unnecessary files then save it to earlier version of acad
