    Here's a somewhat funny story. A friend of mine visited the Kodokan with a mutual Japanese friend. They took an elevator to get to one of the floors. On the trip, an older Japanese man entered, and started berating our Japanese friend, who just kept apologizing. Apparently, they had entered an elevator for Instructors/Staff only. The guy said, "He's an American, he has an excuse, you don't!"
    I was surprised to see that so much of the Kodokan was devoted to offices and living space.
    While you were there, did you ask them to return the rules to how they were twenty years ago?

      Is there a fee for 1 or 2 days? How does it works?

    • @Reddragondiaries
      @Reddragondiaries  9 років тому +4

      Carlos Colon it depends on what you want to do there. All the classes and programs available have different prices. For a single room no bathroom is about $29 per night. Mat fee for randori is about $8. There are many other classes though. Best thing to do is visit their website and contact the international department.

    Thanks very much for this. Of course, this building was not the home of the Kodokan in Kano's day, so technically it is not "where it all began".

    Judo in any shape or form is the best grappling/wrestling style ever created hands down!

    it looks beautiful! I would love to visit it someday..... hopefully soon. Some of my dojo mates have gone and spectated but never trained there. Do you have to be Shodan to train there or will they train kyu grades as well?

    Hi Tom,
    Hope you doing well these days, still in Japan, any youtube action soon? :)
    I am planing to visit Korea with my judo club in April next year, but also thinking to visit Kodokan (since I'm in Korea, should be shame no to go to Japan after) on my own and stay there for some time (10-15 days) and randori. Any advise on Kodokan hostel, randori every day, gi prices in Kodokan (planing on bringing only one and buying one there), and general monetary and
    health & safety advise? Don't have much interest in city tourism, or restaurants and night clubs, would visit some worth visiting places, but mainly slippers, gi and a bottle of water kinda holiday, and of course good meal and a beer after randori :D
    Thank you, OG subscriber ;)

    I am going to Japan soon and will probably visit the Kodokan. Can you try on the gis sold at the Kodokan before you buy them, to make sure the size is right?

    I wonder if I could train there for a week, but not a member but I am a black belt in judo I wonder if it would be expensive.

    All that management and coordination is done by the IJF not the Kodokan. And of course, this is only the most recent Kodokan building, not the original. Or even the second..

      El Canal de Shackra the mat fee for randori is about $8. The price for all the different classes and programs vary greatly. Best thing to do is visit their website and contact them and they'll send you a pricing sheet
