Hey, I'm Jonathan Griffiths, a 29-year-old with a BSc in Human Nutrition from Bournemouth, Dorset. My journey as an amateur bodybuilder has been unique due to a fused spine from a rugby injury at 14 and my Autism. Despite these hurdles, I've found incredible success on the carnivore diet over the past four years, after other pain relief methods failed. I have since competed twice as a carnivore bodybuilder, with my recent showing on June 2nd 2024 where I placed first against an extremely competitive line-up. I also just completed the British finals as a disabled athlete competing against open competitors.
Meanwhile, I have had my spine fused in 2022, and various procedures to try and reduce the pain I am in. I am currently primarily a body composition coach in the carnivore community and have helped hundreds of people to reach their goals. The carnivore diet is my only option to try and thrive, and I love it!
My diet mainly includes beef, salmon, chicken, eggs, cheese, milk, and butter. I avoid fruits, veggies, grains, nuts, seeds, oils, and sugars. I drink water, coffee, and bone broth. No calorie counting here, just focusing on around 350 grams of protein and fat each day for the past 4.5 years.
In the beginning, I lost 5 pounds and felt a surge in energy, focus, and calmness. I woke up refreshed, with no cravings or GI issues. My workouts stayed strong, with better muscle pumps, vascularity, and faster recovery.
The diet eased the pain and stiffness in my spine, giving me more freedom and comfort. It reduced my need for medications and improved my autism-related symptoms, like anxiety and mood swings. My social skills and communication also got better.
Blood tests before and after the diet showed my liver and kidney damage from a virus had healed. My blood markers such as liver and kidney functions were normal, with no nutrient deficiencies or hormonal issues.
This diet has been eye-opening, challenging many common dietary beliefs. I've learned that meat is highly nutritious and satisfying, and plants aren't essential or particularly beneficial for me. This is especially relevant given the genetic and metabolic traits seen in people with autism.
I've stuck to the carnivore diet, with occasional treats like 'Hot Pot' and Korean BBQ, which I can cook myself at restaurants. On my UA-cam channel 'Carnivore Muscle,' I share my carnivore lifestyle, training tips, nutritional advice, and recipes, building a community of fellow carnivores and inspiring others to try this way of life.
I fully recommend the carnivore diet to anyone looking to improve their health, fitness, and well-being, especially fellow bodybuilders and those with spinal conditions or autism. In my view, it's the best way to enhance both body and mind. 💪🥩🚀

JT - "people just need to understand, if you want to change something, you have to change something, and you are probably going to have to give something up."
Kelly - rather than the fear of missing out (my favorite food(s), my/their birthday cake, holiday foods etc), embrace JOMO, the Joy Of Missing Out on body aches and pains, brain fog, no energy, gut issues.
Terrific interview! JT is so down-to-earth (not alarmist!) and easy to listen to (and look at 🙂). I really like his approach!

      Change creates results,
Subtracting is a factor initially BUT if you're Under eating over time, chronically metabolically challenged then you Need to ADD more calories or macronutrients or more Protein and more Fat to stoke the metabolism fire 🔥
When the campfire is dwindling down you add more logs to build the flame, same applies to our metabolism.

    100%. Love this video.
I had been stuck on the last 6kg forever, months and months, stucker than stuck. I literally thought that this was what many describe as "my body set point" and I wasn't happy.
I joined Kelly's group, learned about reverse dieting, discovered I was badly undereating and, I more than doubled my calories. I maintained that for four weeks, gained 1.3kg. No biggie.
I then dropped my calories by 20% and I AM LOSING again!! I am literally 5kg down in two months. So close to goal.
This is a revelation. Don't be scared, do it ;)

So...does one have to increase calories by 15% every two weeks until you actually put on a 'little' weight? (like 1-2lbs??) as I have been on same calories now for months (2200kcal) and not losing and not gaining....but whenever I try to reduce I get hunger coming back (I am 100% carnivore and eat 80% fat)...I wonder if I have to increase 15% every two weeks until I actually put on a little weight THEN start reducing? what do you think? or do you know if that is the answer?

HRT would be the starting place. Perhaps by being Carnivore for the long term - you could stop if you choose - but without hormonal support? It’s easy to stay stuck.
For me HRT - including Testosterone - makes a huge difference. That and taking digestive enzymes to help me eat more and digest well when I eat.

Sleep also influences fasting blood sugar and BP. When I don’t get at least 6 hrs. 50 min. sleep at night (I’ve been tracking sleep for over 3 years now), my blood sugar & BP will both be higher in the morning. Since my tracking and journaling has been on my phone or computer, I rarely was able to avoid them before bed. I have devised now a version of my trackers to print and use in paper form. I hope to print these today to avoid using any screen time at night. As a tech geek, I have tried to avoid this, but I have stalled in my health progress and am taking this step because my health is more important.
Thanks for your advice. I know it works because I have stepped up my calories gradually over the past 6 months and maintained my weight, fluctuating between 130 and 135. I still have about 10 lbs. to lose, but will wait a bit till I can eat about 2,000 calories before attempting to lose those. (I started at a BMR of 1,029 calories and would gain weight if I ate 1,300.)

I have diverticulitis. This is my third time in infection. The pain, exhaustion,
Lack of bowel movement anemia and internal bleeding has wracked me. No doctors know how to deal with any of it. Some say roughage. Seeds nuts make no difference and they beat me down and tell me the carnivore diet will kill me and give me. The conventional world says no cure, knife, anti acids only treatment. I am limited on the quantity I can eat. Been carnivore for over a
year. Not as much pain. Huge amount of oxalate dumping (which causes inflammation in digestive track). Tried high fat/sardine fasting/ cholesterol went to 430. Supreme nausea which lessened but still there. Any retention of bowel movements causes transverse colon to hurt so bad can hardly walk.
Added a little arugula to help slow oxalate (1/2 cup )dumping Too much exercise hurts heart(chest pain) I run a farm. The arugula is low oxalate and the amount of fiber is only a couple of grams. Having a bowel movement daily.
Eating lamb beef and fatty fish now. Any doctors who specialize in such things. Live remote Widow no living relatives accept semi-estrange child.
I am trying to get help monitoring food, diet selections and any suggestions on the diverticulitis. So many wonderful improvements on carnivore. Hate to add fiber or plants back. I am a 100%
Organic farm and raise sheep. Thank you Kelly-so love your Christian perspective. Jesus Christ is faithful.
I think maybe just a lot of patience in losing more weight , but focus the tight choices food wise to slow down oxalates. I need suggestions on the food choices for oxalates and supplementation, blood tests and the interpretations of the blood work

Keep up the carbs/plant fiber to slow down dumping. We want u alive! No grains still -but leafies, sure: also cukes & celery are some more high water, fiber vegs - Dr Bright says all 3 are just bags of water & chlorophyll. I think zucchini & yellow summer squash may qualify too. Anything that u cook a little and can literally just wring the water out of. But not fruits lol they ARE water loaded but it’s sugar water.
Stay as high meat as possible, maybe cut dairy to butter only (dairy binds ppl up often), drink broth daily and keep fat as high as possible to keep up BMs. Don’t worry about ur cholesterol, that’s a future problem at worst. NOW is keeping u alive and able to just stinkin walk & live w/o wanting to die from pain
I’m so sry about ur suffering. I’m alone too and it’s so hard to be suffering physically when ur alone also.

I'm really sorry to hear that you have had such a hard time. Diverticulitis is no joke! I have had an infection, while eating all the "proper" fiber foods and just narrowly escaped surgery. The meds for treating the infection are nasty! For 2 years, I have been Carnivore and not had any issues or flare-ups, except for on vacation. (See below.) I slowly worked up to 200-220 grams of fat daily and I never get constipated. I add 4 g. butter in my coffee with equip grass fed protein powder, 2X's a day. I also add 2 oz beef fat trimmings to 4 oz ground chuck and 2 T. tallow to 4 oz ribeye for 4 meals a day, as an example. I have only once., in 2 years, had warning signs of an infection (gurgling noises during digestion and bloating) last week when I was on vacation for 2 weeks. Even though I ate Carnivore, I wasn't able to eat as much fat as normal and I think a lot of my food was prepared with seed oils? So I ordered Oregano Oil pills and took them every 4 hours with my meals for several days. They are a natural antibiotic and the digesting noises and bloating stopped that first day. It never progressed further than that and I feel great with the extra fat. Hope this helps.

My favourite saying: "If it's good enough for Jesus, it's good enough for me!" Christ ate meat regularly, as did all of the people of the region, mostly fish, lamb, and goat.
Grains, vegetables, and fruit only supplemented their diets because most were poor.
These days, it is an uphill battle to eat grains and fruits and vegetables because most of our food supply from agricultural sources is poisoned and nutrient depleted. But MEAT IS the least tampered with, and the most nutrient dense food available.

I followed this advice over the last few months. I gained a little and did not always feel great. But somewhere along the line I started to be less inflammed, more energetic and I started to lose weight. Yesterday I had so much energy I walked 12k steps, tried on half the clothes in my closet as I cleaned it out, did errands, chores and danced around for no reason. Today unfortunately I am up 1.5 pounds. My legs are sore since typically I walk 8-9k steps. I am guessing it’s inflammation but it still feels scary. When the scale goes up, I start to distrust the process. I’ve given up almost all carbs except for infrequent avocados and cabbages. I gave up dairy, which was sort of my last comfort food. This process is definitely not a one and done. I am constantly trying to adjust myself.

So you started losing weight and feeling better?? But then you gained 1.5 pounds this morning?? That’s normal!! I can tell you from losing well over 130 pounds that it is completely normal for the scale to bounce up sometimes. I had weeks for the scale would go up up up and then down down down and then plateau. But month after month after month, the overall average kept slightly dropping. Human beings will always gain and lose a little along the way. Completely normal. If you are feeling better and getting results over the course of weeks and months, please stick with it. Progress is never linear.

I can smell every spice that was in their meal and it STINKS, like rancid garlic and onions mixed together 🤢. Has anyone had this side effect? Will it ever go away? Hoping for some support.

I eat 80/20 and drink the fat that comes out but it's not much fat.. I can't eat butter, I get a nasty allergy. Also not all people who put on weigh for years but always retained water and maybe drinking too much water? And those who aren't active should they increase the amount of food they eat? It's not that easy.. :-(

Consider asking a local butcher for fat scraps from their beef or pork, cut them in strips and air fry them. You will end up with crunchy fatty snacks to supplement your main meal. You can also make sauces just with egg yolks. And you can do this even if you can't do a lot of exercise

    • @abcdef-b5y
      @abcdef-b5y 3 дні тому

@@nataliajimenez1870 That sounds very tasty. I'm in a rural area and have no butcher around. I could ask Safeway meat dept. if they do have. So, that's what you do with it: fry it? I'll check with them to see if they have meat fat. I don't think they don't have tallow. I can eat eggs the same as butter. I walked for 40 min. almost every day.... It's crazy but trying to not lose patience after 10 months on 80/20. Thanks for the help. I do appreciate it. I'm 71 and not very active, which doesn't help, I suppose.

Are you fasting too? Try to only eat in an 8 hour time span. You can drink coffee, tea and lots of water during the fast period. Carnivore eating should satiate you so that fasting 16 hours is quite easy. Best to you. PS. I don’t count calories. 16-18 hours is the goal but try 12 hours to begin. No stress. It should be a way of life and not making yourself suffer.

See none of this makes any sense... If I am 100 lbs over weight so that comes out to 350,000 cal of body fat. Lets say for arguments sake my BMR is 3500... And I'm carnivore and fat adapted. NOW I fast. Will I starve??? NO I will draw 3500 cals of body fat to feed my body. So I can last theoretically for exactly 100 days. Just the same way the Scottish fellow who didn't eat for over a year didn't starve. Now you are suggesting that for some reason beyond me. That if I eat 1500 cals my metabolism is going to blow up and I'm going to gain weight. NO if I eat 1500 cals I will draw out the extra 2000 cals in body fat to compensate. And these people who are eating 5000 cals and not gaining weight ... is it magical... no Its just passing thru their bodies in their stool. Its not disappearing into a magic metabolism spike cuse you twitch more... 3500 cals requires you to move your body around 25 miles to burn it. Yes you will burn a few calories but toe tapping will not compare to running a marathon.

I’m thinking maybe I just needed to hold on a few more mos. But honestly I did not choose to stop. I would have kept going. I love the ease of meals. There’s no recipes. Just slab of flesh, sear n eat. Hunk of flesh, stew and eat. Eggs, sear n eat (I like them runny). Sardines and tuna, open can n eat. Butter, take a bite. I could live with a cast iron skillet & 1 burner only as I never got roasts.
