Seeing all of the people enjoying Waikiki makes me happy; however, at the same time, seeing Waikiki the way it is today breaks my heart. When I was a kid Waikiki seemed more "exotic". It still had the feel of being on an island with more mom-and-pop shops, the international marketplace, and so forth. Seeing all of the modern-day businesses and luxury shops takes away the old feel that many first-time visitors never had a chance to experience. As kids, we used to skateboard up and down Kalakaua, and even ride our skateboards right through the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center. I'm all about changes in time and in life, especially if makes improvements, but sometimes I wonder why did things have to change. It's one of those life questions that lie in a lot of our hearts. Do we adapt to change or do we long for the past? No matter what, I'll always have love for Waikiki it holds a special place in my heart.
I completely understand, there are definitely fans of both versions of Waikiki. Personally I preferred the older, grittier version too, because that’s the version I grew up with. I suppose it’s a lot more family friendly nowadays with most of the “adult “ entertainment gone now. Thanks for watching!
Went to Puerto Rico two weeks ago , for my first flight/vacation . Now that I’ve gotten over my fear of flying , I’m looking into Hawaii for my 27th bday in February ! I’m speaking it into existence LOL

I want to visit my uncle in Hawaii one last time. Just to see him so he knows I turned out alright. The last time I saw him was at my dads funeral 26 years ago and I didn’t get a chance to talk to him. I have nothing to really show him other than my good memories of visiting as a child.
Hawaii was amazing, went last year. Everything was pricey tho. Traffic was kinda bad in some areas. Gotta go watch some shows. It was entertaining. The breath of life and buffet after. 😅 There was a lot of ABC stores. You can see a lot of people wearing shorts or no shirt. Its humid there when i went. Rained on and off
The problem is they have to quarantine no matter what upon return to Japan. Being that most Japanese took short 5〜7day vacations then went immediately back to work, I don’t think they can afford to be out of work for 21 days (14 day quarantine).
This is not the Waikiki that I remember. I used to go there every year from 1974-1984. I was hoping to go back and visit after the pandemic, but after watching this video, it turned me off. It’s a shame. The charm of Waikiki took a deep six.
I would suggest an outer island perhaps? Kailua Kona is still similar to what it was in the 80’s…I haven’t been there since the shutdown however, so not sure what businesses survived…Thanks for watching! : )

There is a big sentiment in Hawaii against the modernization and hotel/shop building. For myself, i dont mind it in Honululu/Oahu one bit. But i would love to keep the prototypical industry takeover from affecting the other islands like Maui , to preserve the natural beauty.

I’ll have to check into that…Pre COVID they were doing Friday night events, but not sure what’s going on down there nowadays. A lot of bars died, because they were shut down even longer than the restaurants.
Aloha! This video shows it all..people walking around without any direction direction at all. Walking walking back in forth, dressed with no fashion in mind no Hawaii Flower Shirts. These tourists look like there homeless.
Very nice. No graffiti, no violent far left extremist protestors, no police bashing or homeless attacking the tourists. Everything seems civilized and people enjoying life. Many sexy women walking around! Nice video!
Hawaii never seems to get all the violent protesting, and nobody attacks the police here. We'll occasionally get a violent homeless person, but usually the police keep that under control in Waikiki. Thank you for watching!
Thank you to all the toursit not following hawaiis covid protocols.....we are now in an upward trend In positive cases with more tourism. From an average of 20 postive cases last month....now we just had 105 positve cases. Most of them clusters linked to tourism. Hawaii will be locked down again soon.
Still the same? I was there last Christmas and New Year most stores and restaurants closed early due to pandemic except ABC store, it was a quiest holiday season ever!

There are hotels on every island already…I guess if you want the old Hawaii, you have to go to Molokai…I think most of the resorts closed down there.

Chinatown and downtown has many homeless but also many good restaurants.

Kauai is a lot slower paced…you could always move, it’s only one island over ; )
Kaui is for older and slower people. If you are young and single you have to move to Honolulu. That is where the action is.
