They can be from any Nepali diaspora living in India or Nepal. Rais and Limbus you mentioned are ethically Nepali. Bhutia and Lepchas from Sikkim are also permitted to join because they are culturally Nepali. Other Tibeto-Burman tribes from the Northeast are not allowed. They have to belong to a ethnically Nepali tribe or have to be culturally Nepali like the Sikkimese. 👍🏽🙏

Gurkhas in this regiment are mostly recruited from Darjeeling and other places within India like Sikkim where people have Gurkha origins. I am a Gurkha too but not from Nepal but Darjeeling, India. The other one is Royal Gurkha Rifles in the British Army. Now people in Royal Gurkha Rifles are recruited from Nepal which was part of a treaty British and Nepal agreed on.
