She was popular in Wales uk also, I used to love listening to this fab rag especially as the introduction to pot black in the 1970s and later Junior pot black, but let's also give credit to the fabulous composer George Botsford of the original black and white rag, I love playing ragtime piano, my favourite I love playing on the piano are the Entertainer and The maple leaf rag 🍁 by Scott Joplin iam learning to play Winnifreds arrangement of the black and white rag, music is a wonderfull God given gift. Greetings from wales uk 😀
@@paulsmith-rl9xb Not sure where you get your information, but Trinidad and Tobago has NEVER been American. Originally Spanish, then settled by the French, it became a British Crown Colony in 1889. They gained their independence in 1962.
Although she rose to fame with this tune, it's not Winifred Atwell's Black & White Rag. It was written by George Botsford in 1908; two years before she was born. It was actually on the B-side of Atwell's record, "Cross-Hands Boogie".
I remember “The Winifred Atwell Show” a 15 minute slot, I think, on Radio Luxembourg 208 m on medium wave, in the 1950s. Loved it, never missed it. In the 1950s Radio Luxembourg was the only station that played the music of the day. The BBC Light programme, which became BBC RADIO ONE, only played it on request programmes.
Although I listened to mostly Scott Joplin Rags and my older brother played them on the piano, we both know this tune well! Joplin may have written a rag called "Black and White Rag" or something similar. This is played GREAT!!! We were both big Eubie Blake fans as well! My brother got to hear Eubie play in a concert when he was in his 90's and he even played his "Charleston Rag" which he wrote in 1898. My brother got to shake Eubie's hand and has the photo. Eubie's hands were huge......
Thinking about having this to play us out the church at my wedding lol it’s a proper tune .. would love to wander in a pub get a pint bust this out on the piano down pint and wander off .
Outstanding and the best snooker tune, class.
First and only instrumental by a female to reach number 1 in the U.K. charts.
What a wonderful lady.
I remember her beautiful nature.
Love Winifred.
...and for those of you watching in black and white, the pink is next to the green.
The " whispering " Ted Lowe.😀

Winifred Atwell's piano playing ragtime technique is extraordinary. There was a great Ragtime pianist on the Lawrence Welk Show.named JO ANN CASTLE.

Pot Black, as my grandad once said, he having stuffed his new tape recorder on to tape this tune. Good theme tune for that snooker programme.

Did she play the piano in It's Great To Be Young, a marvellous film from 1956 with John Mills and Cecil Parker?
Lived not far from us in London when l was a nipper.
How do you keep still to this ??? 😂
You can't Tom - simple as that!
Back in the old towns saloon
Сразу вспомнил фильм "Здравствуйте, я ваша тётя!"
This was Joplin's Rag!!! No wonder it was so familiar.
It was written by George Botsford in 1908.
@@ornleifs I stand corrected. You are right!
So talented. Why don't we ever hear her playing now?
that might be down to the fact that she died in 1983.
She inspired Fritz Schulz-Reichel to "Crazy Otto" and also prepared the way to him.
музыка из фильма Здравствуйте, я ваша тётя!
😃😍😃😍😃😍
This makes me wanna fight in a bar in the Wild Wild West
Вот это исполнение! Браво!
Ahhh, Repton.
Ah, cognitive decline.
This is not Joplin's rag!!! This is an arrangement of Botsford's rag.
