Yes, Ella, you were the best of the very, very best. S'wondeful to listen to you sing. S'marvelous to fill my home with you every day! S'elegant. S'manifique!
It’s been said that back in the 1960’s Frank Sinatra was asked in an interview who he thought weren’t the best singers. He replied that Ella Fitzgerald and Judy Garland that both had poor breath control! He later regretted it and did a tv special with Ella. And after Judy Garland heard about this she was not pleased. So in one of the popular restaurants in Beverly Hills, she happened to notice that Frank Sinatra too, was at a table with his party. When she walked in everyone stopped to see Judy Garland walk in and when the maître d’ greeted her and her party, she looked at Frank’s table and said “I didn’t know that busboys were allowed in?” lol
I caught Sinatra and Ella at the Chicago Amphitheater (Blackhawks, Bulls) in the '70s, when Frank saw people weren't coming to his records so he decided to bring his music to the people in live "concerts."..Sell-out audiences for all 6 that I attended--in Madison, Milwaukee, Chicago. Each concert was musical heaven--except the last, when Dean dropped out and was replaced by Sammy and Liza--not Sinatra's finest moment.
Thank you for sharing, that is unfortunate, tho' Ella's is also deserving of her success. Being a black woman in that Era, she, I am sure, had to work harder to get recognition. Good for you for advocating for Nelson Riddle!
Oh hell to the yes for this comment. Riddle's contribution should be acknowledged along side the many great voices of the time. Together, they made this such a great era in music.

Shame on the reporter for asking such a question!
Judy and Frank were friends - and lovers. Guess she forgave him, like a lot of women did.

Acompanhamento de Nelson Riddle e sua orquestra.
Shout out the Gershwin brothers
fck yeah, the Gershwins!
Yeah, Ella is great, but how about a little credit for the ever-underrated (and underpaid) Nelson Riddle who wrote this fantastic arrangement?
Amen!
